Simpler, calmer and quieter things seem best. That is, unless you are in a sporting competition or a race. The chart has distinctive race-like components, that is, people are in a hurry to get somewhere. That is why I said it might be better to cool down and calm down, but that is your choice. "Road rage" looks like a distinct possibility (not to mention subway or airline rage). 

Some may focus on accounting or business details to their advantage.

As for sheer pleasure, it may be hard to come by, so if it is elusive, look for the deeper joys of spiritual peace and contentment (the bliss of Brahman). That conquers the often upsetting doubt of the Via Combusta period, when one wonders if one is on the right path.

An honest part of you wants to cut out your own path in life despite difficulties, so you are on the defensive to protect what you have and toss interference out of the way. An easy, offhand, detached approach may seem unimpressive at first yet could succeed. 

You may be thinking of someone whose career seemed to end prematurely. You have kindly thoughts about this person but it seems that fate dealt with him or her according to something inevitable. This person had or has a sense of humor and an inimitable personality. He or she cared or cares about others and tries or tried to provide for them. Perhaps this person is an ally in a sense, visibly or invisibly.

When things come to a standstill, or you seem marooned somewhere, you can still be mentally active and this can be fruitful. You sense that some put on masks or pretend to be or feel other than is real. This does not have to be disturbing, merely interesting. An endowment you have is capable of large or limitless expansion. This is something you could become aware of. You may find that you will succeed and have more than required for your own needs.

It's a "tight" day. That means that one feels pressured to get things done within a time limit.

There does not seem a lot of latitude for laziness. Sorry about that because it's a Friday.

If you slack off too much you'll feel you're getting behind.

Travel may be on people's minds, but the complications are off-putting.

Study and communication may be better. How much of our lives are consumed by words? Well, rather than let ourselves be consumed by the words, let's be "on top of" the words and use them rather than letting them use us. How to do that is an individual discovery. 

I have known so many writers, and read so many books, and spent so many hours in classes, that I sometimes start to feel that we are all imprisoned by words, sentences, paragraphs, chapters, books, libraries! How do we get out?

Or tweets! 

Maybe the tweets are even more imprisoning than the books. They are like close-fitting bars on our word-cage while books have larger openings.

I write all this because today's chart has 8 planets and sensitive points within the third and ninth houses, which are the "mental" houses--lower mind and higher mind. This is words, words, words, but also concepts, ideas, understandings--which seem somehow to use words rather than be utterly totally dependent upon them. (That is philosophy and philosophers argue about such things forever and still never agree.) How much can you understand without words? What about music? Does it constitute wordless understanding or comprehension?

If you have now gone away from your computer or phone to listen to some music, I wouldn't blame you. Have a nice wordless day.

Or if you're still here . . . you must be addicted.

For example, I saw today on Facebook that a friend was "interested" in the opening of a new phase of the Pike Street Market downtown. I thought I would go there this afternoon, since it is a very nice white-clouds-and-sunshine day. But as the time approached for me to leave, I realized I have so many words to write, including these, and letters, and words to read--studying astrology, philosophy--keeping up with "things"--that taking a few hours out of my day to relate to the "real world" of Pike Street Market might just sap my energy and leave me unfulfilled. Tomorrow? No, I won't have time.

And so I am learning to know what it must be like to be in prison. Except, of course, for the all-important fact that my imprisonment is voluntary.

I pray for prisoners every day. 

As for Friday, we need more words to describe it:

Simple and persistent effort against obstacles is required. Cutting down a tree. (We love trees and protect them now, except when we are reading words and words on paper made from them, but we need to remember how pioneers had to cut down trees just for land to live on and to build their houses. That is what the "man felling a tree with an axe" is about. I think the trees forgave those people, or found fulfillment in being made into a house.)

There can be willfulness and aggressiveness, "What I can get is my own." Moon square the sun and Mars, plus Saturn and Pluto on the other side. (Saturn by the large 15 degree orb because we are still in the |karmically serious third|.) Let's not forget about love, the constancy of the soul's seeking for a mate or at least a companion. (To accommodate monks, yogis, bachelors and widows I add "Perhaps an invisible mate or companion.")

We wonder if we have been cut off from everyone or everything worthwhile. Maybe we just need to keep on developing and making potent our latent skills. Rather than "I am missing something," "I am making something." We also make provision for others, just by being who we are, "A hen scratching for her chicks." This could include a male CEO who is providing products and services for customers as well as jobs for workers. He is a "hen" in that regard.

Happier indications for the day are with us as well, a lightness of heart, integrity, competence, fruitfulness. There can be domestic peace, tolerance, concord, childlikeness. This lives in and through the more difficult matters already discussed. We discover and manifest the easygoing, carefree life through struggle and toil. That is a paradox with which we are all somehow familiar.

We are finding our way through recognizing where we have made mistakes. This is easier during a Bright Hermetic Epoch (until July 24), so we can see into ourselves and our errors and correct them now while that is possible. 

Travel may appeal, or mind-travel and study. You feel you have a mission to defend what is right. (I know of no issue more upsetting to me than the current fate of Christians in Muslim countries, which is horrid.  

At a happier level, you might spend some time in a place like a park or place of recreation. However, in this |karmic period| you may want to do something there which uplifts the lot of humanity, or at least pray.

Changes and varied approaches to your material or financial well-being are aiding you. You would not discuss these with everyone, but they are opportunities. 

You are curious and have inclinations toward what is easy, happy and refreshing. What you have discovered unfolds within you as personal realization. 

The influence of parents, and parental figures or guides, upon you is often good but sometimes questionable. If you feel you are being misled by them, you can fortify yourself and your own conscience into true strength. Pride is all right, but haughtiness is not. Justifying oneself can be viable when based on intrinsic merit. 

If we face challenges wisely, then in the later void-of-course period we can relax into "a little village lying in a fertile valley." That is, experience the native goodness of our hearts without exalting ourselves. As humble as the valley, our lives are all the more fruitful because of inner contentment.

\Tough but Wise Choice/

To make it simple: The worst things happen during the |difficult third| or |karmically serious third| of each week. This is determined by the relation of the moon to Saturn. It is real. I discovered it. I study it. I have observed it for 25 years. It is real. You can rely on it. If you do not see what it means yet, keep studying and observing week after week until you see what it means in your life. It is worry, doubt, delay, everything denoted by the planet Saturn. It is also spiritual search, a need for something more solid and therefore more spiritually real. That is the good part of it. But, as all teachers have said, to find the real we have to sometimes give up the false, and that is the "karmic" difficulty. 

If it is on Wednesday through Friday, as it is this week, then you can count on it being on approximately those days next week, though a little earlier, because the cycle is just a little less than one week and so it gradually gets earlier. Although some weeks it might get a little later, then to get earlier later on, by a few hours each way. The moon's speed is irregular; its mean is 13 degrees 10 minutes per day; it can go as slow as 12 degrees in a day and as fast as 15. So the "weekly" cycle is not exactly weekly and that is why it has to be calculated every week; but if the center of it is on Thursday this week then you can expect the center to be on Thursday next week, most likely. 

It is a bitch. It is a bastard. It is everything you don't like. But it is part of our lives and if we learn to live with it and make it a blessing we have learned something essential. 

Those with a mission to accomplish seem harsh sometimes. It is part of their job. A lot of things going on in your life now are hard to define, yet you try to define them. You need to command your powers and your situation: "A mounted Indian with scalp locks." This is not violent but decisive, choosing what is best and rejecting the rest.

We are warned against self-indulgence or selfishness. There is the possibility of being open to some deleterious influence or seduction. Of course, we bring such things upon ourselves without being fully conscious we are doing so. Innocence is of two sorts: Childish foolishness, which can fall under the spell of someone who is hurtful; or childlike purity, which is the real innocence, for it tends to infiltrate and uplift others, or push them away if they are not pure, and is therefore self-protective. The latter is what we want to live. 

"A ship in full sail" is one of the better potentials of the day, a possibility of gain through trading. You reach upward beyond yourself to demonstrate something better than yourself of which you are conscious and which you know you can bring into manifestation. To do this some study, such as mentioned yesterday, is essential, with an exact mathematical formula or structure, or something geometric and clear-angled. You could also study something philosophically profound which has surprisingly practical applications, subconsciously showing you hidden possibilities.

This seems like a turning point in some ways for a relationship or friendship, and for something related to the household situation. Something on the verge of change is in fact changing and will be on a more interesting, freer footing tomorrow. 

Allies are important, and you know who they are.

Someone from a distance or traveling made important moves Monday and today. 

Mysteries may be grasped with the aid of intuitive light. What has seemed like loss or accident could guide you to a better way to preserve whatever is of value in your life. 

Signor Borelli's symbols sometimes have the drama of Italian opera or American soap opera, yet they are illumining. Today he tells us to guard against undue self-assertion: "An iron gauntlet, a sword and a scourge upon the stump of a tree." The tree suggests violations of the environment, which we know are summering in the current administration. When will cruelty, torture and warfare be a thing of the past? The sooner the better. We may be wanting to force someone to think or do what we assume they ought to think or do, or to stop doing what they ought not to do. 

Then: "Behind a king upon a throne stands a figure veiled in black." This sounds all too much like what is going on in Washington, Russia, Syria (or you fill in the blank). The warning is against too-aggressive ambition leading to dangerous positions. Ambition is fine so long as we know what we are dealing with. If not, we are trying what is beyond our powers or beyond what is naturally best for us at present.

There can be fancies or magical visions which help you ascend beyond normality. The focus on money is mostly reassuring or uplifting. How can you give, share, and also have all you need for yourself? The answers are percolating into some secure carafe. 

Friendship is potentially very broad and enlivening, though a little restrained by the suffering and needs of friends. A community for all is what is wanted, and this is possible, though within the limits of our current culture, which still puts emphasis on competition. 

Those without many abilities, who enjoy their homes, are good people and do not trouble anyone but make others happy through their unspoiled natures. Good fortune comes close to home in simple ways, "a bluebird standing at the door of the house." There is freedom in understanding. Reliable orientation and guidance can relieve worries about friends.

You are meticulous in "feathering your nest." When some things are at a standstill, others take their place so that extreme trouble is averted. Then there can be satiety: Appetites are satisfied as a result of good sense, but need not be extended to the point of unhealthy overindulgence. 

Ephemeral matters can be released from grasp at special moments or hours for recuperation. There could be wasteful ornamentation or display, but then one turns back to what has utility in a practical way. We have the Bright Hermetic Epoch until July 24, four more weeks. Industry and diligence lead to gain and friendship.

The New Moon of last night (Friday at 7:32p PT | 10:32p ET | 2:32a[Sa] UT) has given us perhaps a new lease on life. Yet there is still restriction or a "held back" feeling, as if one wanted privacy to work out certain matters in one's inmost consciousness.

Yet there is good fortune, with a tendency to lean on it lazily or self-indulgently.

A feeling that one might try or do anything at all keeps bubbling up. This is a fountain of youth. You may feel that someone beautiful and generous could fulfill your desires. Goodness of heart wins favor. Originality re-establishes your personal world. 

What have been the abortive projects in your life? They ended as if trees struck by lightning. You justified them to others and yourself like a mouse arguing with a cat. Maybe they were not "wrong," just out of place or time. In dark moments you sense the futility of so much that people consider important. Yet you can through the darkness regain your composure and a semblance of rebirth. 

The sense of entitlement or the privilege of lazy enjoyment may be harmless on a Saturday or day of rest. Of course the puritan or Dear Prudence in us has to remonstrate that it could go too far and end up in a bellyache or a hangover. Sorry I have to convey her warning but it's part of the job. With a sense of humor we can see others' foibles more easily than our own. Hah-hah!

Those who want a guru who tells them that everything is always just fine so they may as well enjoy themselves selfishly will not be happy with Sri Sathya Sai Baba. He gave warnings endlessly, but because he knew the laws of karma and that we bring on ourselves our own suffering, those warnings were essential. However, there is no teacher Eastern or Western I know of whose joy of heart and effortless loving attitude, expressed in his smiles of thousands of varieties in the endless photos of him, is more liberating. Sometimes I think just looking at his photos is enough, if one tries to "develop love more and more" as he advises here:

Today science has advanced to a great extent! Human beings have undertaken space travel. People want to know what is there in space, they are curious to know what is there in the moon and even wish to travel to the Sun. But what is the use? First recognise the Divinity within yourself. Open the doors of your heart. Develop love more and more. Understand the truth. Experience God. There lies the bliss. It is very easy to know God, but very few understand this. You must make every effort to understand the immanent Divinity. The divinity within is covered by ego and anger. Therefore, it is said, real knowledge dawns only when attachment is destroyed (Moham hithva punar vidya). Where does this attachment come from? Excessive desires lead to attachment. You will experience divinity everywhere when you enquire deep within!

Two trends: One: Being focused on essentials, a little boxed in by them, isolated; or stuck at headquarters to finish things. Two: Reaching out hopefully to good pleasing contacts. But the first takes precedence.

Many feel they have a mission to accomplish, perhaps even involving warfare in some cases. Better, there could be a mission to eliminate bad or hurtful conceptions or convictions. One might be industrious, getting little things done or cleared away. There is a desire to facilitate things and remove obstacles through commonplace but needed action. 

If one were too petulant one could make enemies. There is a tendency in that direction so if one is to overcome it one must be vigilant. People are liable to be obsessed by other people's influences and therefore "not themselves" in some way. Then they could, because of compelling moods, precipitate a fight. Strong passions also arise in inter-sexual matters, or from dying or doubtful relationships, so that one might feel grief and sadness, as if love had been spoiled and only faded-flower memories remained. 

A desire for change could be uncertain in direction so that one feels unsettled. Or one might feel one needs to blaze a trail and convince someone to follow along even if he or she seems unwilling at first. Such determination could seem almost ruthless. But is it really indomitable, or does it make someone feel subjected and therefore rebellious? Maybe the approach needs to be modified to be convincing.

Lest one let emotions rule, remember paragraph 1.

We are in the final days of the Old Moon, with the New occurring late Friday evening. It is good to hold on solidly to what you have found out to be truly good and helpful for yourself, and give up what is totally experimental or pointless. You know what has sustained you in the past, and who has helped you. That has not changed. You need to retain your faith in the Supreme. If you do not know the Supreme you need to seek Him, Her. 

I do not desire to preach. But I know that the Supreme Lord is supreme and there can be no doubt of that. We need to remember Him, Her. The rest is foolishness.

Let's declare a holiday! It's the first day of summer, the Summer Solstice (as of late Tuesday, or 4:25a today UT). Holiday because the moon is void-of-course most of the day and we may as well take time off! Well, not really if you have pressing things to do, regular needed routines, or a job. But we can celebrate in our attitudes by making things a little less strenuous.

In addition, Mercury conjoins (is exactly in the center of) the sun by geocentric perspective early today, a signal that a lot of our plans have been worked out in the past month and are on track solidly. This is the center of the Bright Hermetic Epoch extending to July 24. What have you decided upon as a better strategy, either financially, in health matters, or your career, or a hobby? You have probably found better methods in the past month. You may be still working on them to perfect them but they are probably close to being right.

You don't have to stop working at them or using them just because the moon is void-of-course, but could spend some time just rejoicing rather than knocking yourself out. Things seem less pressured or worrisome than yesterday.

However, there could be mournful or gloomy moods. We need to pray for others to decrease or eliminate their suffering, rather than merely fret about it. Something dilapidated or no longer useful need not be depressing, just something to let go. You may want to share your higher ideals or visions with someone and find that person impervious. You feel like "an old man attempting vainly to reveal the Mysteries." Yet you can be pertinacious so that your understanding could percolate into the other's consciousness eventually.

You desire to fulfill your ambitions, and though some efforts in that direction look like "a chubby boy on a hobbyhorse," your mature self nurses your younger self toward materializing hopes and ideals. You are careful not to reveal everything to everyone, but adjust your displayed flag to the nationality or attitude of the person to whom you must adapt. 

I mentioned the need and privilege to relax somewhat. True, yet there is some danger of going too far with that so it is good to be wary of neglecting something essential. Then, if you are safe in that regard, all could be felicitous. Signor Borelli greets the Solstice with "A well-fruited vine hanging upon an old wall beneath the sunshine of a summer day." Flavors of old Italia in that symbol! Thank you, Signor.

Money remains a major focus. This might mean calculating your prospects along certain lines, or payments and receipts, or investments. The details are complex but interesting.

If there is a feeling of heaviness, it could be "heavy karma" because of the seven septiles and biseptiles and triseptiles remaining. This is facing things which seem slow to resolve. Of course patience is a large part of the answer.

To be open to opportunities, even when the person connected with the opportunity is suffering, is a key.

Entertainment may be suffused with a sense of duty or restriction. Entertainment can be healing for both entertainer and entertained.

Gay youthfulness and amusement are wanting to come out. Yet there are dilapidated conditions, a sense of futility: a coal mine defunct and dangerous. We have to make fun of some things when we can't change them; wink at them and put on a hat, bonnet or necklace to show we are more sophisticated than any embarrassment. 

There is beauty and charm; natural endowments are displayed. Yet, more seriously, people want to emulate someone who has skill as well as charm so they can rise beyond some childishness or other they have become aware of in themselves. People clown and make fun of themselves in order to release anxiety but also to sense a more realistic path.

Some of the symbols of Signor Borelli seem distinctively 19th-century in their morality: A wolf following a sheep along a secluded pathway. Deception and seduction. It seems that we have risen above that, or perhaps we are just more successful in disguising it? Are you the wolf or the sheep? Or both in differing contexts? The philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre was born with the sun at this degree (last degree of Gemini) and though he was not good-looking, the deep scarred intellectual framed in glasses, he wrote some amazingly illuminating philosophy about the dialectic of sexual enticement. Perhaps we need to let ourselves recuperate from too-deep involvements or worries. Then, in accord with the "mysterious philosopher" archetype Sartre embodied, we can be "a venerable person seated in uncertain light; before him are some books, and surrounding him various scientific instruments." We are inclined to solitariness, but sought after by friends, although we seek none, wrapped in our mystery. We see what is darkness to others, but do not use that vision to take advantage of them.

I am amazed at the relevance and power of Swami Sri Sathya Sai Baba's words. They knock me over. Here is something which makes me feel I don't know at all how to live or to speak:

Silence is the only language of the realized. Practice moderation in speech. That will help you in many ways. It will develop unconditional love (prema), for most misunderstandings and factions arise out of carelessly spoken words. When the foot slips, the wound can be healed, but when the tongue slips, the wound it causes in the heart of another will fester for life. The tongue is liable to four big errors: uttering falsehood, scandalizing, finding fault with others, and excessive articulation. These have to be avoided if there has to be peace (shanti) for the individual as well as for society. The bond of universal brotherhood will be tightened if people speak less and speak sweet. Hence, silence was prescribed as a vow for spiritual aspirants by the spiritual texts. You are all spiritual aspirants at various stages of the road, so this discipline is valuable for you also.

There is something intense about money. This could be great loss or great gain, for differing individuals, but a focus on "Where is my money coming from?" 

Something about secret ways of handling health issues as related to diet is significant in a favorable light.

Someone you like to play with, or have light times with, is going through intense changes. Possessiveness is being eliminated from love. This is hardly easy.

Someone artistic or musical, perhaps a woman, is greatly favored, enjoying attention and luxury, yet somehow stands apart or alone. Interesting potentials emerge as you merely grope toward whatever catches your fancy.

There can be doubt and change. You may wonder how sincere someone is who does well at play-acting. You should guard against being thrown off your track by attempting too much in vague directions. Someone liberal in a true sense, just and fair, could help you overcome feelings of being subjected to someone else who might have taken advantage of you. You can give up what you don't need in relationships while holding on to true values.

P. S. A brilliant mathematician-physicist, Hugh Everett, who developed something called the "Many Worlds Theory," and much more, wrote:

“Once we have granted that any physical theory is essentially only a model for the world of experience,” Everett concluded in the unedited version of his dissertation, “we must renounce all hope of finding anything like the correct theory ... simply because the totality of experience is never accessible to us.”

This hits at something familiar to me as an astrologer. Yet this Hugh carries on, as did that Hugh, expanding his world of experience even though it is far from "totality." This Hugh believes we do not need such totality in order to draw wise conclusions from astrological observations. Totally.

The |karmic third|, for lack of a better term, often means dark moods and worries. There is a fixation on the ultimate meaning of life and its values, and that is good, but when one does not feel sure about it there is soul-agitation and seeking.

Some enjoy detective stories, or law-court dramas. I don't, but there could be plenty of such stuff to keep people interested today: "A spider watching the giddy dance of silly flies." I take no pleasure in the suffering or punishment people bring upon themselves, knowing that I have done the same to a lesser degree. 

A happier facet of things is "window-shopping," if not literally, then anticipating good things and choosing among them. 

People indulge in things which intoxicate them, if not actual drink then entertainments or pleasures which make them "high." This is good within wise limits. There is some wanderlust, accompanied by delight in one's freedom from the constraints of ordinary society: "A gypsy coming out of the forest." 

There can be mimicry and flattery, with lack of inhibition, plus curiosity, happily childlike. One trusts one's inclinations (with perhaps limits put forth in paragraph 1). 

The melancholy side of things comes from separations. The loved one has inclinations leading in other directions than toward oneself, despite the fact that one is sympathetic. Yet being graceful and ready to please brings rewards and immediate benefits, wherever one happens to be. One can be hopeful and happy amid reciprocal feelings from someone or other: "Two butterflies rest and fan their wings upon a bright orange flower."
