Industriously the chickens peck for their food.
Out in the back the geese are languid by
The cold dark pond. Somehow there is enough
For all, and plenty to spare. When hawks threaten
The chickens their owner scares them away.
A cow languishes in comfort, contented.
A hare comes bouncing through the frosted
Meadow, sniffing in all direction. He turns too
Frequently to find what he needs and bounces
Back into the unknown. The farmer-ess,
Tired, breathes aromas from an exotic
Potpourri, but in the canyon a storm seems to be
Brewing. Shrewdly she fences with the hungry
Hawks and tosses grain to satisfy her brood.
The geese abandon the icy pond, sensing
The storm, and honk in the sky at the gathering tumult.
The poem comes directly from the Symbols for the day. It shows things in transition. Some may feel they are not sure where they are going, yet protected and supplied with what is needed. There could be significant meetings, no matter how uneasy, of those who care about each other.

What is missing can be provided. Mother Nature
Has all. The woods banking a stream grant comfort
In any weather. An explosion in the distance means
That not all in this world are at peace. We have to care
For one another. Some are favored and at ease, the
Privileged ones. Others so far ahead of their time
As to be most misunderstood are transmitting light
From above to all in the darkness and gloom.
Those who spend all they have on pleasure and
Stimulation are missing the joy of creation given
Those whose craft forms glories the others enjoy.
Some need defense, some kindly support, some
Nurturing words or deeds. The darkest days of
The year and coldest foster retreat, contemplation.
