*The Pioneer Persists*

I'm writing on Tuesday, before the New Moon, which can be a "down" time, although mentally I am seeing things which are very valuable to me, as I predicted in the forecast for Sun Scorpio-Moon Scorpio. I expect that to get even better in the afternoon and evening--for you also, I hope. I note that I have been sluggish with my physical exercise in the past week, which is typical of the final week of an Old Moon. As I have said, study the records of gyms and exercise salons and you might find that their business falls off every month in those days. Perhaps you will take up more physical activity in the coming week.

A friend who is a good and attentive astrologer has spoken to me about the quincunx between Saturn in Scorpio and Uranus in Aries, which is exact this week. She thought it might be something disastrous. So far it has not been for the stock market, which has been sluggish but not as bad as last week. I believe this aspect has a lot to do with fears of the "fiscal cliff" and all the attention and concern it is getting. It is the major business before Congress and the President. Scorpio of course is almost the financial sign, although Taurus enters in, but I find that Scorpio is more important usually (and its ruler Pluto) in regard to government expenses, corporate power, and taxes. It is the sign of indebtedness, whether one happens to be a debtor or creditor. The quincunx can be a "do it now or else" aspect, and that seems to be the case in regard to the "cliff."

It's interesting that the other "crisis" getting atten tion, though not really as important, is the General Petraeus case, and of course Aries, the sign containing the other planet in the quincunx, Uranus, is a ruler of the military since its ruler is Mars. It is too early for me to comment on that case because all we have to deal with at this point seems to be rumor and innuendo. But it is all over the news media as this quincunx becomes exact (on Thursday to be precise).

Very sadly, the re have been self-immolations by fire in Tibet again, quite a few in the past week, three on Wednesday the day that Mercury turned retrograde (very early that morning in Tibet). People do desperate things while Mercury is retrograde. I hope you will keep that in mind if you get any urges toward anything dangerous. These desperate immolations are another correspondence to the quincunx we are discussing, since Scorpio is the sign of death and Uranus a planet of protest. Uranus represents the urge to freedom of the Tibetan people and Saturn the iron-fisted thick-headed rulership of the Chinese. I marvel that the Dalai Lama never goes under, but has even in the past few days carried his case to Japan where he was met with great applause by the Japanese parliament. He is such an admirable man and teacher on so many levels. He stands up under this aspect and all aspects to defend his people in whatever way he can in accord with his principles. "Do it now or never" as one meaning of this quincunx seems to be his motto as he carries on in his 70's. Unfortunately, from my viewpoint, the same motto may have inspired the suicides, but one can understand the desperation. What the Chinese are doing to the pristine wonderful Tibetan culture and people is completely wrong, cruel, and unjustifiable.

This two -day period does not have to be suffused with gloom. We have escaped the |difficult or sobering third| of this week as well as the Via Combusta. We have a New Moon and Luna has left Scorpio for Sagittarius. Not everything is rosy but there is more hope.

There is a pioneering instinc t. You push on with the work which makes sense to you. The pioneer does not always seem a romantic figure to himself but endures the drudgery of hewing timber and building his habitation in the wild. Perhaps only a novelist or film-maker looking on from a distance would see this as romantic. To the pioneer, raw survival is the motif. And so you can do this, though you will be dreaming of ultimate ideals at the same time.

Some of the pioneering could be intellectual as well as physical. Although you circle back and forth in your speculations and reasonings, some of them are profoundly accurate. So you may sense how to handle money, for example, in a way which makes more sense, so that budgeting or investing comes clear. Let us hope this will be true for our Congress and President. Indeed something fateful or destiny-laden could develop in connection with finances, at the national, international, and personal levels.

You see how to aim at your mark and hit it, securing prosperity for yourself. I shall not enter into ethic al discussions about self-interest versus other-interest or altruism. I think we all realize that we are members of human society and cannot be callously selfish, yet have to look out for our own interests. The "yet" here carries with it huge amounts of thought, planning, purpose and good intention.

Venus  feebly aspected in Libra seems to show that although there are love-interests, for most they are not clearly defined. Important mental work or research may seem more vital. That in turn can lead to fresh ways to participate with the world in whatever activities get your major interest. Love on the mental plane is the joy of understanding, plus implementing that understanding in ways which benefit all. That in turn brings about joys of personal contact, and those may be heightened because Luna is turning up the volume of the increasing sextile between Venus and Mars.
