There are noteworthy symbols (from Charubel) in the chart for this week, Saturday July 9 through Friday July 15. Let’s look at two of them. “A quantity of toys or common ornaments of glass and tinsel.” “A proud person, fond of the artificial, and highly superficial; of a fretful and peevish disposition, creating misery wherever he or she may be.” This is exactly right for some individuals I know and for some strangers I am sort of glad to not know. Further, the “toys of glass or tinsel” seem to include noise-making factors in my neighborhood which have been periodically nerve-wracking. Another example: A podcast I like consisted, this morning, of several comedians joking about nuclear war and how it might happen and its consequences. That’s right, joking. I listened for a while and then turned it off in disgust. Some things are just not funny. These would-be jokesters were, as Charubel warned a century and a half ago, “fond of the artificial and highly superficial; of a fretful and peevish disposition, creating misery.” I hope they find a better use for their talents.

A nicer symbol for this week, through Friday: “An elliptical figure on the ground, and a man standing upright within.” “A person who loves passionately, and is a great admirer of the opposite [or, these days, maybe the same] sex; a lover of the beautiful, in art and in nature.” I have not had enough of this but there have been hints of it, for example yesterday when I enjoyed a walk on a shopping trip, with the beauties of nature and humanity surrounding me on a summer day, and then got an unexpected phone call from a female friend. We chatted a long time. We spent some of it exploring our mutual frustration with “a fretful and peevish person” who had “created misery” for us, so both symbols were in evidence. How are they working out for you?

A sonnet based on the Wednesday symbols:

//////

It’s hot. The man feels indolent, sleeping away with implements

Beside him, dreaming not working. A woman

At a well welcomes all experience, including conversation

With the awakening Saviour she unexpectedly meets.

//////

A buffalo paws the ground, snorting, bold and forceful,

Rejecting all restraint in a semblance of freedom.

In a marketplace young men take up cudgels against

Each other, asserting hot quarrelsome opinions.

//////

One man stands above the crowd, arms folded, head erect,

Confident, courageous, in love with himself.

Another, less lofty, opens a very old book, an ancient record,

And rather than write another one studies and thinks profoundly.

//////

The curious woman could recognize the Saviour while the

Young men bashed each other and the older one pondered.
