Moon in Taurus
|Karmically serious, sobering, challenging third| of this week continues until Wednesday morning
New Moon of Taurus occurs at 12:01p PT | 3:01p ET | 7:01p UT

Challenge:  It's tempting to sugar-coat some of the symbols, but I have found that they strengthen us by warning us, and always the warning is of some error, mistake, or moral-ethical failing.  The reason for that is that, according to occult, mystical, and religious realization, all of our problems are caused by ethical failures.  It is not easy to see this but many come to see it at some point in their lives.  Therefore this symbol for the day, 'a dagger lying beside a skull,' is not a warning to beware of someone's skullduggery, but to beware of whatever in yourself could precipitate, karmically, such a bad result.  Jupiter was at this degree on 9/11/2001, and most people's lives went on as usual, but the victims of the day's 'skullduggery' had to face something very intense.  It is too easy to say "it was their karma."  It was the karma of the whole world working out in ways our puny minds can't totally comprehend, but with a knowledge of the afterlife and of reincarnation, such as is provided gropingly by Leslie Kean's brilliant book Surviving Death, it is easier to fill in speculative details which could justify what looked like unmitigated tragedy.  As for today, we can try to eliminate 'fatal tendencies' in ourselves, such as cruelty and oppression.  We might feel melancholy and taciturn.  That is not a sin but could develop into one if we let resentful feelings rule us.  Rather, we could emulate another symbol for the day, 'a profile with only one eye in view' indicating 'great powers of perception; an exact and accurate observer of men and things who would make a good detective.  A practical mind; no mere theoriser.'  --Charubel

Process:  In accord with the above, 'a cypress tree' suggests 'a person of melancholy and fretful disposition, mournful and gloomy.'  Yet from melancholy and mourning can come deep understanding and soulful illumination.  A 'white dove over troubled waters' represents, according to Dr. Jones, 'the clear direction or absolute orientation' coming to each human 'as a result of his indwelling spirit or divine heritage.'  The keyword is Guidance.  'There is also a wholly practical protection, to the precise extent it is accepted.'

Blessing:   The New Moon day is not always easy, but inchoately the start of something new.  Taurus is the sign of the earth's blessing, and we have 'a field of rich grass in which stands a tree encircled by a swarm of bees.'  'Diligent efforts will lead to the acquisition of money and friends.'  Success comes through industry and thrift.  (If you have ever known a beekeeper you can sense what this means.)  From the opposite end of the year we have 'holly and mistletoe' which is 'a stimulus to every resource of imagination and spiritual appreciation.'  Through some kind of ritualization we participate in 'the magic of self-renewal' leading to 'a rewarding expression of individuality.'
