ATHENS — Fast-moving wildfires near Athens have killed at least 74 people, officials said on Tuesday, and have forced thousands of tourists and residents to flee in cars and buses, on foot, aboard boats and on makeshift rafts. In desperation, some people plunged into the Aegean waters and tried to swim to safety. (New York Times on Tuesday)
As you know, I keep drumming on the Dark Hermetic Epoch, which might be called the Slow Hermetic Epoch (it is when Mercury is slow and retrograde) or the Reclusive Hermetic Epoch, since it is sometimes wise to be reclusive or hidden, quiet and prayerful during these times. (This one lasts until September 2 and the center of it, Mercury Retrograde, will be from the time given above until August 19.)
This period has more than its share of disasters such as the fires near Athens. It might be said, without irony, that these fires occurred while the moon was in Sagittarius, a fire sign, while the duck-boat accident in Missouri occurred while the moon was in Scorpio, a water sign. Things are not always that neat, but it is worth noting. Also: The fires in Greece occurred on the very first day of the sun's presence in Leo, another fire sign. Further: The sun at Leo 0 and 1 was square Uranus almost exactly at Taurus 2. Further: Mars, planet of fire, is retrograde at 4 Aquarius, squaring Uranus and opposing the sun within four degrees, and that is increasing. Mars in an air sign suggests the strong winds which fanned the flames of the sun in a fire sign; both were squared to, or putting pressure, on Uranus in an earth sign, namely, the houses, buildings and trees which were burned up, and unfortunately the bodies lost either through fire or water while fleeing the flames. Not pretty.
If you say, "But most of the world's people experienced nothing like this" I will say, True, but what were they experiencing internally which was something like that disaster? A parable of Jesus I read this morning says "Some seed fell on rocky ground, where it had little soil, and it sprouted quickly because it had no depth of earth; but when the sun rose the young corn was scorched, and as it had no root it withered away." Leo, of which the sun is ruler, is called a Barren sign. Further, Jesus said, in symbols of course, "As the darnel is gathered up and burnt, so at the end of time the Son of Man will send out his angels, who will gather out of his kingdom whatever makes men stumble, and all whose deeds are evil, and these will be thrown into the blazing furnace, the place of wailing and grinding of teeth. And then the righteous will shine as brightly as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. If you have ears, then hear." So the same "heat" which "burns up" the wicked, glorifies the righteous. That is something to ponder during these times. (To me none of this has to do with "eternal" punishment, for which a loving G*d could not ever be responsible.)
As a matter of fact, a reader of these reports wrote Tuesday morning saying that the air conditioning both in her workplace and her home went off on Monday-Tuesday and she had a "horrible" night. She lives in a summer-hot climate, and this happened to her just while the Greeks were fleeing the flames.
Further, all this happened (check for yourself) during the |karmically serious third| of this week. I never use that term lightly.
We need to remain calm and patient no matter what our individual circumstances.
Not everything is harsh. I see that farmers, or some of them, are going to get a 12 billion windfall from the government, if Trump's plan goes through. It sounds crazy to me and many others, but there it is. At a more normal and rational level, the trine of Venus from Virgo to Pluto in Capricorn (Virgo often the sign of farmers and Capricorn of government) could be yourself taking care of your house or garden plants and benefiting from that. Something nice, simple, and pleasing in this summertime.
Wednesday: The mysterious can also be the sublime, the great and lofty. We come into contact with loftiness while the sun is in Leo, at its best a sign of divinity (no matter how undivine lesser Leo individuals may seem). We also get intimations of the future through our normal acumen as well as through "psychic" or paranormal means and processes.
We can treasure and cherish young people whose innocence and beauty transcends their immaturity. They may seem unreliable, but this is rather the elastic and undeveloped condition of their minds.
Sharing a meal or drink with someone could be a splendid recovery maneuver.
A "council of ancestors" is with you in consciousness. You can rely on those who have guided you well in the past. Those who can bridge from one generation to another, being guardians of both, live long and happy lives.
