Message for Sunday 29 July 2018

Service interruption
Our catalog is currently available for most functions, but you cannot place holds or renew items. Public printing in Library locations is currently not available. We are working to resolve the problem. Thank you for your patience.

That is the message I got from the Seattle Public Library when I tried to renew books Saturday morning. Mercury is Retrograde, and so "Service Interruption" is normal! I have never seen such a notice before from the library and have been using it for seven years.

Another first: Last night I put a pitcher of water in the freezer to get it cold faster, then forgot it. This morning I expected the worst, but fortunately the pitcher is intact, not broken or exploded as I had expected, and thawing. Not only do we experience more "interruptions" from outside, such as computer freezes or crashes, or trouble with certain sites, or trouble with smartphones, we make more problems for ourselves by forgetful or careless actions such as my forgetting the pitcher in the freezer.

On the positive side, we recover fascinating insights from the past, or read books we had almost forgotten, or watch old movies, or reconnect with old friends. There is a sort of pleasant drift, when one can relax and enjoy it, so "less planning" can be a blessing, or at least "not overplanning."
