}Past Irritation to Persistence{
The moon in Aquarius, moving toward a conjunction with Jupiter tomorrow, gives us Prime Time all day. This does not mean everything is peachy but that you can at least move forward with your plans without major trip-ups, most likely.
One part of you wants to avoid the public and pursue private interests. You might luxuriate in your house or garden, or if at work in your "office" or specially individual space. Certain privileges which belong to you make you feel on top of things, more so than yesterday afternoon when the moon was void of course.
Your reading and interests could turn toward the unusual, remote, archaic, or occult. You may feel you are as qualified as anyone else to be an authority on certain things which make intuitive sense to you.
You can let go of some worries when you have dealt with them to the best of your ability. Trusting is all right. When you have put the ball in someone else's court, you can wait for the next move rather than get flustered or hurried. People have a lot of worries and that could account for their slowness or awkwardness in dealing with you. You might need to just let it go for now, when it comes to anything tricky or tardy; although, since we have Prime Time, if your intuition tells you to call or write someone, go ahead.
Imbroglios related to your work, home, or money may seem irritating when the details get tangled. How could this possibly take so long to get straightened out? you may think. In accord with the previous paragraph, it would be wise to restrain your frustration and anger especially if it could result in insulting someone.
Your convictions are essential in your personal program, because they both inspire and correct whatever you may be trying to do. Spiritual study is always a good move, even when it might seem futile; that could be because you are relying too much on human judgment and not enough on the Divine. Twenty minutes of studying a Scripture or spiritual text could save you hours of chasing yourself in circles.
You want to rely on friends, yet are suspicious. That is not entirely a mistake. No matter how well-intentioned they may be, they could depart from what you consider correct action and so disappoint you bitterly. Of course it does no good to wail or complain about this, so it is well to recover from disappointment as readily as you can and focus on your own energetic or creative activities, which a friend may not agree with or understand.
The ardor you feel when trusting to your spiritual guidance could save you from depression and link you with an ideal agenda which will work out in time no matter what the current confusions.

From then on we will have Prime Time until late Wednesday evening, and then again on Thursday afternoon-evening, but not on Friday.
Many things go slowly or deliberately, so it is better to refuse to be in a hurry about most of them. Taking your time to be sure about everything will prevent you from losing time in inconsequentials. And yet, until the void-of-course time just given, you can be quite efficient with anything that really matters.

You sense that no one at all is superior to you in your domain, and that is not egoism, not arrogance, just a feeling that you do not have to worry about your position in relation to anyone else; you are fine, as good as anyone.
Putting things in shape temporarily, even if they won't stay that way, is good. It could be called extemporization. It's as if you were an explorer, making camp in a different place every few days. As for money, somehow it is there when you need it and you don't want to make it the primary thing in your mind. It is always for something else, nothing is for money. It's a means not an end. So focusing on that toward which it is the means is the smartest course.
Anything involving rent, a mortgage, or home finances requires much patience. You may feel someone is hassling you over nothing. Household costs seem distorted somehow. You'd like your place to be more serviceable for friends. That can be arranged gradually; you do not need to argue with anyone over the details.

This is a somewhat gruff, no-nonsense lunar position, but a trine with the sun forming all day into the evening will smooth things out somewhat so that it should be easier to do business or shopping today than it was Friday. In fact, you could find things which are to your advantage quite stunningly during local travels.
You are also astutely aware of people's predilections and desires, so that you could turn them to your advantage. This does not have to be devious, just canny. Of course, someone else could be making designs with you in the middle of them.
Anything you want to do to secure your position vis-a-vis someone who has been unfair in dealing with you could be done well at this time. You sense the legal possibilities wisely and could make use of them. This could apply also to labor relations.

The |retreat| third of the week is aggressive today, with the moon (in Sagittarius) square Saturn and Uranus. It is mitigated to a degree by Luna's sextiles with Jupiter and Neptune. But I would be very aware of signals that the universe is not "with you" in connection with certain plans or activities. When in doubt, leave it out.
People are looking for principles and methods they can rely on (the current planetary pattern displays Fixed Natural Disposition according to the methods of Marc Edmund Jones) yet they are willing to balance differing methods against one another without bias (seesaw-shaped configuration). There is a desire for an esthetic element in everything, with Venus in Leo the planet of oriental appearance while Mercury sextiles it from Libra. You can shape your world in balance with others who are trying to shape the world in their own ways, without coming into harsh conflict.
The sublime and the mysterious combine to uplift you. This could be unusual art work or music. The way you approach it is indirect and wavering, uncertain and intuitive.

The |retreat| third of the week begins today. I am hoping that the moon's sextile with Jupiter while in his sign Sagittarius will temper this considerably. At any rate I shall emphasize the positive in what follows, and leave it to you to remember that the |retreat third| is upon us, which means it might be wise to hold back from things more than usual, especially if there are serious doubts.
You could influence people more than you realize. This could be done more easily than you imagine, by passing on a word or two when you feel inspired to do so.
Moods go up and down rapidly. You do not have to submit to them entirely but can resolve to find the best path from within yourself and stay with it. We all have our peculiar weaknesses which tempt us to opt out from efforts which would benefit us.
It is easy to succumb to enjoyments, pleasures, and entertainment. Of course this is not a mistake when at the right time, not interfering with important pursuits of the will. It is good to remember your plans and hopes for the future as well as immediate satisfactions.
This may be specially true when your vision of possibilities is unorthodox and "far-fetched" according to the majority. What do they know? Not much, especially when they are in a negating frame of mind, for they negated the hopes of many inventors and scientists whose "crazy dreams" turned out to be real and beneficent. Such individuals ahead of their time had to lose for a long time before they could win.
Higher tastes and rarified intuitions are yours. They do not always jibe with the predilections of the profane. The music of the soul, however, can drown out any uncivilized cacophony.
Someone who has turned to the inner life, a monk or hermit, nun or recluse, may be helpful to you and vice versa. Spiritual giving does not have to be on the plane of material things.
Some individuals do not give a second thought to being parasitic, or know that they are being so. They will "sing for their supper" or use any clever trick to get what they need or want, as if this were the way of the world and their natural right. You neither need to be a victim of their ruses, nor depreciate them too much in your mind, for in India even thieves are considered to be a caste-profession, if not exactly respectable. Laws of karma cover and balance a multitude of peccadilloes.
Finding your true focus and staying with it, as suggested in paragraphs 3-6, will save you from much woe. When you know your path, you are able to adapt to situations with neither too much compromise nor too much rigidity. Principle owns a puissance which opportunism lacks.

~Games of Self- and Other- Control~
Sometimes writing this forecast feels like what Harry Truman said of the Presidency, "One damn thing after another." If the moon is not in the Via Combusta it is void of course, or square Saturn. Lesson: We live through all these things, repeatedly, and can learn how to live through them gracefully rather than ignorantly and awkwardly. So these forecasts are my dancing lesson for myself, and for you if you choose to come along, teaching us how to avoid stepping on one another's toes or getting out of step. Alternatively, it's preparation for basketball, with the Via Combusta a full court press in overtime and void-of-course a timeout for the other team.
Today actually looks quite sweet in many ways. We have escaped the Via Combusta for another month; and the moon moves all day toward a trine with Venus late in the evening. It does go void of course (in the second half of Scorpio) after a nice trine with Uranus at 11:35a PT | 2:35p ET | 6:35p UT, until it enters Sagittarius at 8:17p PT | 11:17p ET | 3:17a UT, for more than eight hours; but this should not be too disturbing because of the nice lunar aspects, more like a welcome respite, or "time out" to enjoy life for a while with less worry about pressing details. What could go wrong would go wrong only if you pressed too hard for things better left alone at that time.
The earlier period before void-of-course could be excellent for surprising progress in a project, or for career developments accenting your unique approach. A carefully-thought-out and tactfully-presented proposal might get a favorable response.
What you prize and value may not be prized and valued by everyone, but it gives you internal strength. You stand on your dignity and hope that this will get you allies. It can. You may be unsure if they are the right kind of allies, or if the price you pay is the right price. Mars is exactly opposite Pluto. People are trying to use one another, while aware that this is tricky and could produce a backlash. How far can I go in gaining power over him or her? people are thinking, and some could push you to the limit; or you may be the one consciously or subconsciously exerting a power play. Fortunately the sun cushions this aspect, so you can luck out by being alert to all the possibilities involved while somewhat flexible. Those who are conventionally prosperous but superficial may attract as well as repel, so that you need to decide quickly what their place is in your life.
Self-discipline and self-training are paramount, for you would not be happy if you were not your own trainer, or else the willing slave of a trainer you trust. You want to get better control of your environment, especially home and work-space.
Cultural events are important. You might want to be where they are ready to happen, or facilitate them, or be with "the beautiful people" who are participating in them. A higher tone is available with Mercury in Libra sextile Venus in Leo. At the same time, Mercury's square with Pluto could activate hazardous attempts to gain advantages when the results will be other than you intended. "Is this too selfish or self-centered?" could be the right question to awaken you from inappropriate gambits.
Some who feel they have lost friends, and are not pleased with their work, may need to experience this disappointment fully in order to be ready for the next step. One cannot move on until one has appreciated where one is and seen the road-map out. This is not a morose experience for a stalwart soul.
The summer is at its peak leading to autumn, the harvest of the year, and happy times outdoors with people you enjoy are available. To whom are you attached; who is your beloved? There you can be, even when a thousand currents are buffeting you higher and yon, for the heart-center of your life anchors your business rather than the other way around.
Your dignity, to be enjoyed by you, needs to be appreciated by those you value.

It does go void of course (in the second half of Scorpio) after a nice trine with Uranus at 11:35a PT | 2:35p ET | 6:35p UT, until it enters Sagittarius at 8:17p PT | 11:17p ET | 3:17a UT, for more than eight hours; but this should not be too disturbing because of the nice lunar aspects, more like a welcome respite, or "time out" to enjoy life for a while with less worry about pressing details. What could go wrong would go wrong only if you pressed too hard for things better left alone at that time.
The earlier period before void-of-course could be excellent for surprising progress in a project, or for career developments accenting your unique approach. A carefully-thought-out and tactfully-presented proposal might get a favorable response.

I don't care if the skeptics say this is coincidence, I have seen it happen too many times to doubt that the ancients knew what they were doing when they designated the last half of Libra and first half of Scorpio "the burning way." Usually, of course, it is a psychological matter; you may feel that your confidence has "burned up" and you don't know where to turn. Or it can be merely lesser irritations and loose ends.
A happier side of Tuesday could be restored confidence about your dwelling place, home, or private area; a sense that you are free there to explore interesting possibilities. You might consider a way of making a space more public, or settling something about accommodations for a group.
Your personal freedom also seems an important matter. Just running off and cavorting as you please might be what you want to do for a while, to assure yourself that you are indeed free.

One problem of my quick summary of Sunday, in Saturday's report, was that I did not set up a chart for the day and merely glanced at the lunar aspects. This was a mistake because I did not note that the moon was in the Via Combusta on Sunday (and it remains there today, Monday). As I write on Sunday, I can testify that the "good" lunar aspects of the day, increasing in the evening, were there but obscured by the Via Combusta which I felt as a lack of morale, a de-energizing, dis-inspiring influence. A friend with whom I had a long conversation was feeling it even more strongly. It is the reason this report is being posted several hours later than usual.
So we have to watch out for that on Monday as well. The world, and your life, are not falling apart, no matter how things seem. It is true that you have some responsibility for holding them together, but trusting to G*d is perhaps even more important, so that you do not succumb to despair or destructive moods.
Personal attractions to a neighbor, someone nearby, or co-worker, could be strong yet inconclusive and uneasy. There is no reason to make more of them than icing on the cake. You may feel you want to drive or whip some such individual toward a better way of living. It's possible you feel restrained or held back by association with this individual even though there is something you like about her or him.
You seem on the verge of using your powers, influence, and magnetism to mesmerize people in a way to your liking, with potent results in friendship and communication. This happens under circumstances where there is much intrigue, that is, secrets uncovered or sought out, as if in espionage.

I have been sitting here helplessly for a half hour waiting for my email to load on a very slow Internet connection. This is typical of (a) the Dark Hermetic Epoch and (b) the ||retreat or difficult third of the week, and we are suffering both of them as I write on Friday. I have only a certain span of time in which to write this so will do what I can.
On Saturday the moon is void of course for a few hours before it enters Libra at 8:13a PT | 11:13a ET | 3:13p UT. We are still in the ||retreat or difficult third of the week until the time given two days ago in these reports (Sunday morning).
Even though it is hard to connect with people you may find surprising connections at times or evoke them if you want to go through the trouble involved.
The uncertainty of things is such that you ought to trust your intuition to decide momentary venues. Many of them may be private rather than public, or you may be alone more than usual. The moon in Libra, however, bespeaks a social instinct, which you will feel even if expressing it is problematic or spasmodic.
Under such circumstances, covert or sneaky ways of getting what you want could occur to you. Taking advantage of the unwary is not cool, although doing it as a sort of game with no intent to hurt anyone could break the ice or open a door.
A game, whether physical or mental, could be a way of facilitating interaction.
Your relation to the world of the sensuous, that is, erotic desires, may be somewhat cold, reserved, curious and intellectual, rather than spontaneous and passionate. You feel the latter approach would result in rebuke or hurt and so tend to avoid it. You skirt around the edges, observe people cagily and wonder what is holding everyone in check.

This sort of doubt has a philosophic value, showing that you need to find the real spiritual platform of your life and hopes before you can proceed on a sound basis.
The esthetic could rescue you, that is whatever makes you see that the world is beautiful and interesting. Your personal taste is your own and may not coincide with that of those around you, so either you can accommodate with them in one manner or another, or go it alone while building up internal energy and confidence for another day.

\Orientation Upward and Downward/
It may not be fun to hear that the ||retreat third of the week is heavily upon us when the weekend is beginning. However, that word "retreat" can mean a spiritual retreat, or even a retreat with a special friend or friends when internal processes and discoveries assume greater importance than outward "progress." None of this probably will be easy because the Grand Square remains with us, pushing us to discover something basic about potentials we have been overlooking. (The exact times of the ||retreat were given yesterday; it ends early Sunday morning.) Astrology shows us that the universe will not let us stop growing and learning unless we opt out from that universe itself. Some spiritual paths recommend just that. Sri Aurobindo, Jesus, and many other teachers recommend instead finding the inner peace some call Nirvana while remaining connected and active in the consensual universe.
It is possible to find uplifting states of consciousness within yourself and share them with your neighborhood or community. This can be done silently rather than through misunderstood verbiage. It could also be done through menial service, although this is not easy while the moon and Saturn are together in Virgo. A sort of convalescence concerning health matters could go on in private.
Self-reliance is a virtue when it is Self-reliance, depending on the Supreme One to guide you even if people around you misunderstand what you are doing.
The sun's aspects have been developing something in you which is now emerging as sagely comprehension of mysteries you had previously failed to grasp. Sol's opposition with Jupiter and Neptune, while trining Uranus and sextile Mars, has been stirring you to reach for deeper understanding, and now you are happy to know that even if problems remain, the solving of them is a thrilling adventure you wouldn't want to miss.
Someone who has become a world teacher has shown you methods which are bearing fruit. You have engaged in deep study in order to be ready for this. You may despair that younger or less mature people are unable to see what you have seen.

So the maturing realizations within yourself orient you to the natural, human, and divine worlds in a way which makes you a silent blessing beyond what even you or others perceive.

We're in a New Moon! Or maybe a New Moon is in us. I gave the time of it (very early today) in yesterday's report. The sun is in the second-to-last degree of Leo and the moon in early Virgo, and we have Prime Time until the time given in the last paragraph. (The only thing which would interfere with Prime Time is the Dark Hermetic Epoch, but since that lasts until October 14 I shall not be commenting on it every day. Prime Time during a Dark Epoch is "less prime" than in the Bright Epoch but I have not come up with a designation for that).
Balancing a budget, investment program or financial transactions could be an issue to deal with as astutely as you can. There are so many things to consider you could get lost, so it is well to decide on the basic ethics of the situation and then proceed with common sense after that. I am still not sure how the stock market will act during this particular Hermetic Epoch. So far, so good, although I would suspect a mild downturn on Thursday and Friday perhaps.
Venus's trine with Uranus can yield explorative joy of life and a sense of freedom. Her quincunxes with Jupiter and Neptune can stimulate conscience and religious-spiritual dedication. These two trends do not contradict but complement each other. You are willing to do whatever you need to do to attain mastery over yourself, which then grants mastery over your situation and people who will help you. You dare to be great by daring to serve in an intelligent way which serves yourself.
Something you had once set out to do would make you strong if you proceeded. You may sometimes abandon the project for less than worthy reasons. It involves studying and calculating things carefully. Perhaps we were confronting the results of past violence, or confronting impulses toward violence, or working to prevent future violence. Then again, as humanity evolves, this aspect will not be violence at all, but stimulation, akin to hard play, sports, or a taunting joke. It has its dark brooding side, especially because this time Saturn is involved. Individuals who attract you may be brooding and suffering in one way while smiling or laughing on the surface. It is possible to move toward the happier side of things in consciousness and thereby evoke it.
Somewhere in this morass of suffering Mars is finding his way toward something better, and Venus, with easier aspects now, may be leading the way. Even in military ethics, serving and being subordinate is a test of masculine strength, although subordination is considered a feminine virtue by many. So we are getting to a place where we recognize the essential identity of feminine and masculine strengths, despite their varying manifestations and womanifestations.

The New Moon of Leo is coming up, tomorrow at 3:03a PT | 6:03a ET | 10:03a UT, a few days before the sun enters Virgo, the final and most fecund (related to the fact that Virgo is an earth sign) third of the summer.
Meanwhile in the "dying moon" period we may feel lethargic or with little motivation. Mars at point focus however suggests internal impatience, a desire to get things moving, yet without the outer encouragement or enthusiasm to do much except chafe against restraints and uncertainties.
We entered the Dark Hermetic Epoch on Monday evening at approximately 4:30p PT | 7:30p ET | 11:30p UT. At that time the weather changed, where I am, dramatically; although the day had been glorious and bright until then, the sky turned dark and cloudy and the temperature plunged, so that for the first time in months I had to shut my windows during sleeping hours. Of course the Dark Hermetic Epoch does not mean cold weather per se, but I have noted over the years that the most extreme or peculiar weather happens during those periods, including major hurricanes and the like. The next Bright Epoch will begin on October 14.
So we are in the more internal half of life on planet Earth. Things are slower, more lackadaisical, or more confused depending on your perspective and your competence in handling this particular phase of things. The words "Refreshment and Realignment" in yesterday's forecast could be a motto for the whole Dark Epoch. Unfortunately, when people do not know how to shift gears, it does not seem refreshing to them, but harrowing. That is why I keep trying to give you clues about shifting gears during these times.
Because Wednesday is the last day of an Old Moon the above may be particularly noticeable, so it is well to find the most significant things to think about or accomplish, rather than those which some artificial agenda would impose on you. Shifting gears mean unclutching part of the time. When the clutch is out, apparently nothing is happening, that is, you are coasting on previous momentum. Such moments in the Dark Epoch are not to be resisted (unless they become extreme or too frequent or obsessive) but understood as an essential part of the process. Dorothy and her little house and dog are in the center of the hurricane sometimes and can do nothing at all until they enter the Land of Oz.
You might enjoy eating out. You also have an adventurous streak and could do a lot of walking while Mars in Gemini (curiosity about surroundings) squares Uranus in Pisces (the feet, the path-makers). Those attuned to sporting events might enjoy them.
Another trend could impel you to stick with familiar individuals, whether mate, children or young people, where you feel secure or comfortable. Contrary impulses are part of the Dark Epoch, so that U turns are more frequent.
An aristocracy or privileged group could be your friend rather than your enemy, if you are slow and careful in deciding anything connected with it. Let things brew rather than force answers.
The mystical and marvelous have an attraction even when you feel skeptical about them. It is fine to let one side of your nature "believe in" something or someone intriguing while another side of you questions and investigates.

*Refreshment and Realignment*
I hope this looks gold, because both the moon and sun are in the sign of gold, Leo. The New Moon is a day and a half away. These could be the lazy days of summer.
We have Prime Time, although the moon makes no strong aspects and is waning, so there may not be much of a crucial nature to keep you jumping, and that may be a relief; but Mars's square with Uranus is exact and that could be pressure from within yourself to manifest something you feel proud of. In fact, you may feel you are in command of others to a degree.
These could be older individuals or those you have known a long time. Holding the line may be more important than pushing new things for now. This could be a time for easier amusements or pleasures, to a degree, rather than for insisting on anything ambitious. Your plans are being reorganized.
Refusing to be stuck in a low or subordinate position could be important to protect you from loss. This is not so much a matter of pride as discrimination, a sense of where you belong. It is true that we are all servants of the Most High. So there is no high or low in reality. Even so, you sense when you are being asked to do what is not for the best.
You have some prerogatives, in other words, which protect your dignity. You can assert them in a non-pretentious, natural way which gains respect.
You sense also that you are aware of certain mysteries of which others are ignorant. This may give you some advantage, but boasting of it could spoil it or even take it away from you. So you savor your special insight and use it wisely.
What you need in order to manifest career goals is yours, even if hidden away. You can take your time to refine what you want to accomplish through a form of effortless effort.
Whatever impatience you feel is spurring you on toward personal excellence. This is a contest, perhaps with others but more with yourself or your calibrated goals. You set the bar higher only when you feel ready for that.
If you regret having wasted time, in some ways, still you can see that just pumping away at tasks which are not in accord with the nature of things will not help. So it is time to find a more natural, basic course for yourself, which you can do if you are not hurried.

We have Prime Time all day, until late evening when the moon (in Cancer) goes void of course after midnight (12:10a Tuesday Pacific Time; later in other zones) after forming a sextile with Uranus.
The moon with Venus in Cancer suggests feminine softness, but Mars square Uranus nearly exact is masculine impatience. Perceived immaturity or foolishness could call forth an angry response. Yet people want to be friendly, or reassured by friends, because the Part of Fortune is in the 11th house.
You care about architecture or real estate and could discuss it. Arrangements for accommodations could be made. You may do this to serve others with whom your lot is cast or a group in which you believe. Costs involved may not be unfavorable.
A practical bent is noticeable, even if you use methods others consider beneath their notice or absurd. Your confidence in what you intuit allows you to succeed with ordinary rather than spectacular procedures.
Where there is abundance there is temptation. So you could yield to some sensuous urges when you know you can afford them. This could be dangerous, so it is well to be circumspect, and loyal to those who have proved they deserve loyalty.
The impatience already mentioned comes out also in Mercury's square with Mars. Together, these can be dangerous if your possessive urges or greed get control of you to the degree that you neglect basic ethics or your better instincts. Or you may see this happening with people around you. Fortunately higher spiritual urges are also present to lead in a more noble direction. Impatience is good only when it leads to stronger efforts to get things under control in an intelligent and fair manner.
Ferocity in protecting what one sees as one's privileges could lead to violence, in an extreme case, or to an unworthy fracas. Calm perspective could see this rather as a game of wits or skill to pursue with a worthy opponent. "May the best man win" is better phrased as "May the man or woman who is better prepared win"; then the loser gets help in preparing for the next encounter.
Revenge had better be contest, that is, an open engagement which shows to all what is going on rather than a covert perverse attempt to punish someone. The sun's opposition with Neptune speaks of a need for faith. Somehow all warriors realize they can't win if they are on the wrong side. Neptune says "You had better pick the right side." The sun says "I have chosen and will stick with this to the bitter end." But if in the warrior's dying moments he suspects he has been fighting in an unjust cause, only another life could cure his despair, through a chance to try again.
In humble positions one can prove one's mettle. The cook, the servant, butler, delivery man, nurse, housekeeper all contribute what is needed for the success of others or a group. Such realizations are a deeper gift of Neptune while he is with Jupiter and trined by Mars.

}Issues Come to Light{
First, this is Sri Aurobindo's birthday (1872). Few have even a slight comprehension of this man's life and work. The word Avatar is not to be used lightly. He was and is one, and his disciples believe perhaps the only one of the past quite-a-few centuries. (My personal opinion is that Sai Baba is also of Avatar rank but that topic is for another time. We needed at least two Avatars in the 20th century to get us through a period which could have been virtually the end of the human race on this planet. The followers of Sri Aurobindo believe that the Mother, the French woman who was his spiritual partner, was also an Avatar.)
Second, it is a difficult day. These are the sorts of difficulties which bring out character in human beings, and teach them how to lean on the Supreme rather than their own power, or to find that their only real power is That in them which is firmly linked with the Supreme. That is part of what Sri Aurobindo came to teach.
This is the most difficult day of the ||retreat third of the week extending until Sunday evening (exact times in yesterday's report).
The moon conjoined with Mars in Gemini accents that planet's squares with Saturn on one side and Uranus on the other, which are the most difficult aspects we are currently experiencing. I quail somewhat before the task of explaining what that means in simple terms. The period of it is approximately July 24 through September 2. It has a correlation with the enormous loss of jobs, or unemployment (Saturn in Virgo) and with the debate over health care (again Saturn in Virgo the sign of health and health-care services) as well as with more subtle spiritual problems (Uranus in Pisces the sign of the hidden and unexplained) as well as the mind's approach to all this through discursive reason and dialogue (Mars in Gemini the sign of the curious exploring mind).
For you personally the best approach might be to think about this period in your life so far (we are near the center of it) and consider what you have been experiencing and learning during the past three weeks. What have been the issues, and how are you dealing with them? Considering this might prepare you for the rest of this period, especially because a Dark Hermetic Epoch of two months begins Monday evening, when re-evaluations of all kinds will be the order of the day.
I did not mention that Pluto also is involved in this Grand Square, because Mars is beginning to oppose it (August 11 through September 10). This makes the period even more mysterious or hard to fathom. Who are your "secret enemies"? I do not want to stimulate paranoia, but all spiritual teachers (including Sri Aurobindo) insist that we need to face the "demons" or inner weaknesses and failures which plague us, and eliminate them. This is a good time for that. These are the real enemies, more than human beings, who only reflect them in one way or another.
Your chosen spiritual path or paths will help you with all this, of course.
Even nice people, who seem friendly, can be instruments of "the hostile forces" at times, unwittingly. Pardon me, again I do not want to encourage paranoia, just more-than-usual caution. When you feel someone is wasting your time, this is a clue.
Some individuals may succumb to a too-easy path of decadent enjoyment of trivialities or stimulants and pay the price gradually rather than suddenly.
The Solar man in you, or wo-man, is strong enough to overcome the obstacles just set forth, while the sun in his own sign is sextile Mars. This is the fortitude you need. Good influences near at hand, in your home, yard or neighborhood, could enhance it.
One who has suffered for humanity sheds his or her noble rays over the world and you can partake of them to aid and uplift you.
The sobriety of ever-ready defense belongs to those who guard us, whether advanced souls or angels. They see the danger before we do and warn us, and even try to protect us when we fail to heed the warning. (The word "try" there contains another warning perhaps.)
The beauty of special human beings is not absent from the day; it can inspire you toward cheerful acceptance of what cannot be changed and gracious attempts to change what can.
Honesty and friendship are wonderful. They reduce your burdens. Perhaps people are willing to be better friends when they suffer their limitations, acknowledging that they needn't go it alone. I would only add that, in the ||retreat third of the week, it is well to recognize the limits even of friendliness because we each have a burden to bear which probably no one else can understand fully and cannot carry for us. Yet allies are welcome.
We can indulge one another's weaknesses, to some degree, without hurting one another's resolves to do better. Such is a noble brand of friendship.

We have Prime Time until the ||retreat third of the week begins at 1:35p PT | 4:35p ET | 8:35p UT. That will last through Saturday until Sunday at 4:17p PT | 7:17p ET | 11:17p UT (just slightly over two days). The ||retreat phase is moving gradually back, away from the weekend toward Thursday-Friday by the second half of September.
You may care more about fussing with things or straightening them out than about sheer pleasure. You want things to be ship-shape, especially in connection with money and career. So you are not to feel guilty if you wonder "Why am I not up for weekend entertainment?" Probably most others are not up for it either, even if they pretend otherwise.
You enjoy a process of discovery, perhaps involving armchair travel or study. When social life seems moot, you tune to artificial or virtual social life, which has its value through the printed or virtual page or other venues.
Those who pioneer toward fresh ways of doing things catch your interest, even if this is potentiality rather than actuality (as in a movie or book).
The sun's opposition with Jupiter suggests paring down your expectation of work or job benefits, or gains through superiors, or even approval when there are disagreements about approaches or methods. Whether taking a back seat or riding in a side car, you may gain through silence, or very discreet communication if any. Maybe no one has the final answer to certain issues, or at least it is better to be humble about that, awaiting a time when your ideas will be better appreciated.
Someone you revere who is a superb teacher or spiritual guide, or a philosopher whose comprehension is vast, could help you when nothing else seems to be cooking. The intangible can be a fertile field when the tangible is barren.

I wonder sometimes how we astrologers can be so densely careless about obvious indications. Saturn has been in the sgin Virgo since September 2, 2007, and shall remain there until October 29, 2009. (But hold your horses, it retrogrades back into Virgo from April through July 2010.) Virgo since ancient times has been correlated with the 6th house of the horoscope, since it is the sixth sign, and the sixth house is quite simply the house of work, to sum it all up in one word; also of health, that is, the state of the body's "work" for us. Have you ever heard an astrologer talk about how the current crises in health care and the labor market are correlated with Saturn's passage through Virgo? I haven't, and admit that I haven't made much of that here either. We seem to overlook the forest (of long-term indications) for the trees ("where is the moon?" astrologers ask me in casual conversation).
Today I am brought up short about this by a superb column in today's New York Times by Bob Herbert, who has a habit of bringing up important things others are overlooking (such as the Afghanistan embroilment when no one else was warning about it). Excerpts: 'The country has lost a crippling 6.7 million jobs since the Great Recession began in December 2007.' Notice how I just said that Saturn entered Virgo in September 2007? 'No one is predicting a recovery in the foreseeable future powerful enough to replace the millions of jobs that have vanished in this historic downturn.
'Analysts at the Economic Policy Institute noted that the economy has fewer jobs now than it had in 2000, “even though the labor force has grown by around 12 million workers since then.”'
This wonderfully informative column is coming out precisely at the time of Mars's square with Saturn in Virgo, which probably is heightening the suffering from this particular aspect to a peak. Who knows how many people are silently in despair over their joblessness, or their consignment to inferior jobs, or part-time work, so that they either cannot afford their rent and have to move, or have to cut back drastically on all spending and look for handouts for food? Millions.
More from Bob Herbert, who seems to see what most of us are blind to: 'More than five million workers — about a third of the unemployed — have been jobless for more than six months. That’s the highest number recorded since accurate records have been kept.For those concerned with the economic viability of the American family going forward, the plight of young workers, especially young men, is particularly frightening. The percentage of young American men who are actually working is the lowest it has been in the 61 years of record-keeping, according to the Center for Labor Market Studies at Northeastern University in Boston. Only 65 of every 100 men aged 20 through 24 years old were working on any given day in the first six months of this year. In the age group 25 through 34 years old, traditionally a prime age range for getting married and starting a family, just 81 of 100 men were employed.'
Again, this column was written or posted precisely on the day (Monday) when Mars was exactly square Saturn. Mars rules young men, in precisely the age group Herbert is talking about. Gemini (where Mars is) rules newspapers and the information media, so at least one journalist, Herbert, was able to zero in on the Saturn-in-Virgo despair, or joblessness, of young males. Thanks, Bob Herbert, you deserve a Nobel Prize. He continues:
'This should be the biggest story in the United States. When joblessness reaches these kinds of extremes, it doesn’t just damage individual families; it corrodes entire communities, fosters a sense of hopelessness and leads to disorder.
'This is, by far, the nation’s biggest problem and should be its No. 1 priority.'
Saturn has always shown where the biggest crisis or need is in any horoscope, as ancient, medieval, and modern astrologers know (or ought to, although contemporary astrologers sometimes seem blinded by the invisible planets Uranus, Neptune and Pluto).
Wednesday is Prime Time, and might be the best day of the week for many business matters. There is no reason to hold back concerning interviews, propositions, requests, agreements, sales or purchases. Your judgment is likely to be right and you will get appropriate cooperation if you look for it.
It is funny how luck and serendipity flock to one day, when we sort of wish they would spread themselves out a little more. You may sense that so many things could be done that you couldn't possibly take advantage of all the opportunities. So it is well to follow your heart as well as your head. Success is beckoning to you through intimate contacts as well as business propositions.
In addition, you will not neglect the regular spiritual devotions or practices which have built up your readiness for such gains, for they are a daily underpinning of your progress and without them you would lose something material as well.
The ways in which you need to express your specialized abilities are partly conventional (and so sometimes boring on the surface) but necessary and rewarding once handled responsibly. You have your particular position to play on a team.
At times you will feel in the dark. That is to be expected. You need to persist when the light of enthusiasm fails for a while, remembering the inspiration which has carried you to this point. Doubts about yourself can be removed by resorting to That which is higher than yourself.
You do not have to struggle to draw attention to your aptitudes. Just using them is enough to get the approval you need. But saying "Look, I can do this" may be appropriate here and there.
Some are considering study, or preparation for future jobs. It's that time of year; also Mars's trine with Jupiter promotes enthusiasm for learning. Males as well as females will enjoy an intellectual, cultural climate where everything comes together as a rewarding manifestation of the human festival, while sharing skills and gains seems natural.
This could be a landmark day for happiness and shared success. If you are not seeking fresh horizons, appreciating what you have, and are doing, is enough. Serendipity is in the saddle.
