^Patience Fosters Serenity^

Challenge:  Sometimes we are confronted by the paradox of smooth planetary aspects on a given day together with very difficult symbols.  That is happening today, and I shall try to steer through the straits past Scylla and Charybdis.  The Part of Fortune both Wednesday and today is in the 8th sector, and Dr. Jones says this shows "effort or need for escape from one complex of experience to another."  That fit my own case yesterday as I was considering actually moving back to my home town.  It may have been a momentary 'greener pastures" delusion or just showing that I need to visit the old place for a while.  You may be experiencing something similar.  'How do I get out of this situation?'  Impetuousness is indicated by 'a n unsuccessful bomb explosion.'  This could show that one 'thinks better' of some planned aggression which would go nowhere so that one escapes the consequences of a big mistake.  'A flying arrow' shows a mind capable of executing lofty aspirations through mental powers, cutting out one's line in life and attracting attention, though one is not guaranteed the result one had expected.

Process:  'A bent stalk bearing a full ear of corn' shows 'bending' to the world's difficulties yet giving forth (corn) much which benefits the world.  This we all do at times, some more than others.  As yesterday, we have 'an inverted triangle immersed in dark fog until it clears away.'  One has significant abilities which seem to be frustrated by outside factors, yet in time one recovers and the triangle is 'bright blue embedded in gold.'  

Blessing:  The sextile between Venus and Mars is increasing and within three degrees.  This is good for love, for mutual approval and attraction.  Yet the symbols seem to slow down overeager expectations.  'An Indian weaving a blanket' has to be careful and diligent, using basic skills.  One meets human needs as defined by one's own culture.  Such quiet persistence brings fulfillment.  Perhaps Venus and Mars are learning how to slither out from blunt bare passion-lust toward love of a more selfless, caring nature, because 'a man [is] turning his back on his passions and teaching from his experience.'  The peace of inner understanding fosters serenity and this makes for harmony in friendship or relationship.

Challenge:  The impatience of the long-lasting Saturn square with Uranus could take form as 'an unsuccessful bomb explosion.'  Dr. Jones sugar-coats the danger as 'exemption from the normal penalties for unsocial results of a hapless initiative.'  But I would not count on that!  Vanity and petulance could result in fuming and fussing if not explosion.  But impetuousness, if moderate, could be harmless.  Or it could lead up to 'a broken pitcher lying upon the ground with spilled fruit around it.'  Impractical pursuits add up to virtual impotence.  One should look, for lasting benefits, to the Eternal, which is implicitly ethical.

Process:  'The head of health dissolved into the head of mentality' suggests aging, or else reversing aging by insisting on health together with mentality.  We develop other powers than merely animal ones as we mature, but this does not have to result in impotence but rather enhanced power through 'effective orientation of selfhood in an over-all vision.'  We can 'live the lives of all men in imagination and appreciation.'  Great native powers, says Charubel, sometimes bring painful trials during one's younger days.  Malignant outside influences seem to attempt an eclipse of genius.  However, 'slowly this fog clears away, and the triangle becomes a bright blue, imbedded in gold.'  There is an emphasis on patience while the mist of doubt or misfortune disperses.  

Blessing:  Holding to the Eternal requires reverence, devotion, and secret (basically unshareable) study.  The symbol is 'a square containing twelve small squares, resembling the breastplate of the Jewish high priest.'  He is said to be 'capable of mighty deeds as a magician.'  At a more secular or humanistic level, 'a man at the summit of a mountain illumined by the setting sun holds a staff in his right hand, in his left a crown.'  One moves from obscurity to prominence as the reward of enduring effort.

Challenge:  Still 'a man is sitting on his heels breaking stones with a hammer' signifying relatively fruitless yet necessary labor, which is consistent with the lunar indications above.  At a more intellectual level, one might feel one is in 'a labyrinth' of eccentricities one has created for oneself.  One follows one's own labyrinthine path regardless of the advice of the world.  

Process:  'A woman suffragist haranguing' is indignant at injustices affecting all regardless of sex, and is trying to be responsible, insisting on rights for every point of view.  This is Venus in good aspect to Saturn on one side and Mars on the other.  At another level, all may wish to be in 'a flock of wild geese,' that is, able to fly above the labyrinth below and indulge an indomitable desire for freedom.  This can be caprice and insouciance.  It may be more an insistent desire than a reality, in the |difficult third| of the week, and in fact if one is in a 'flock' one has to abide to some degree by its leader's choices.

Blessing:  The |difficult third| is the |responsibility third| to a large degree, and probably the best use for it is learning to appreciate and carry out one's assumed responsibilities.  'A man is putting slates on the roof of a building while another is carrying them up a long ladder.'  Benefiting the community through good works brings peace of mind and soul.  One might spend time with one's own family or the offspring of others' families, as 'a man leading two children by the hands.'  The natural docility of the younger could coincide harmoniously with the guiding wisdom-instincts of the older.

}From Unfairness Toward Idealized Reconstruction{

Challenge:  Two of the three difficult lunar indications begin in late afternoon-evening, the other goes on all day (times above).  Some of us might feel like 'a man sitting upon his heels, breaking stones with a hammer.'  Little seems to come to fruition despite one's labors.  This would be passive suffering, whereas the active or 'sinful' suffering would be like 'a man looking through a large telescope at his immediate surroundings.  But he is looking in at the large end.'  That is, he minimizes everyone and everything in his mind, and magnifies himself, than whom there is none greater, and acknowledges no one else's merit.  At worst he is an egotist, boaster, traducer, slanderer.  There are plenty of people like that, often called 'trolls,' on the Internet.  I have no advice you could not figure out for yourself, except:  Let's not let ourselves become trollers, either.  The Psalms say 'Magnify the Lord.'

Process:  'A woman suffragist haranguing' sees real injustices and protests against them with better motives and results than the inverted-telescope guy.  She is 'taking part in details of world-wide reconstruction,' enlarging fair privileges for those subordinated.  Her indignation is able to effect progress.  'The president of the country' may or may not see it that way.  He might be assertive or pretentious but at best he is dedicated to something requiring self-sacrifice, so that he becomes a worthy object of idealization for admirers or subordinates. 

Blessing:  The sun and Venus are together forming sextiles with Mars on one side and Saturn on the other.  One might encounter 'a woman of beautiful and kind countenance, standing alone, half covered with a robe falling from the left shoulder.'  Rather than haranguing others she tries to please them, 'forgetful of self, amiable and charitable.'   This could go too far but would not if she has 'a mind open to receive truth, reflecting the truth in one's daily life.'  The symbol is 'a large glass ball or globe, capable of receiving the images of the stars in space as well as reflecting the panorama of the earth.'  No telescope is needed for this 'great seer or naturalist.'  One might learn from someone like that, or become that. Thinking while Mercury conjoins Neptune in Pisces could transcend itself and reach to intuitive peaks.

}Ideality Embracing Reality{

For a long time I used to post on Sundays not an astrological forecast but a spiritual message culled from other writers.  I feel it may be the time to follow that procedure again.  

From the nonpareil philosopher Hegel (1770-1831):  "Ideality only has meaning when it is the ideality of something: but this something is not a mere indefinite this or that, but existence characterized as reality, which, if retained in isolation, possesses no truth.  The distinction between Nature and Mind is not improperly conceived, when the former is traced back to reality, and the latter to ideality as a fundamental category.  Nature, however, is far from being so fixed and complete, as to subsist even without Mind: in Mind it first, as it were, attains its goal and its truth.  And similarly, Mind on its part is not merely a world beyond Nature and nothing more: it is really and with full proof, seen to be Mind only when it involves Nature as absorbed in itself."  (Hegel's Logic, translated by Wallace, p. 180, quoted by Frederick G. Weiss in Hegel: The Essential Writings, perhaps the best introduction to Hegel anyone has ever put together, with Weiss's own generous commentaries wonderfully comprehensible.)  

From Mary Baker Eddy (founder of Christian Science):  "Mind, supreme over all its formations and governing them all, is the central sun of its own systems of ideas, the life and light of all its own vast creation; and man is tributary to divine Mind.  The material and [finite] body is not the man.

    "The world would collapse without Mind, with the intelligence which holds the winds in its grasp.  Neither philosophy nor skepticism can hinder the march of the Science which reveals the supremacy of Mind.  The immanent sense of Mind-power enhances the glory of Mind.  Nearness, not distance, lends enchantment to this view."

    ". . . all must give place to the spiritual fact by the translation of man and the universe back into Spirit.  In proportion as this is done, man and the universe will be found harmonious and eternal."  (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 209)

Both of these writers are idealists, in a sense, but much more than that, and trying to classify them really does not do justice to the comprehensiveness of their vision.  I think that if Christian Scientists studied Hegel they would have a better understanding of their Science, and that if Hegelians studied Christian Science they would see far more practical applications of Hegel's thought.  

One who did a marvelous job of combining all transcendental and existential insights in a tapestry is Sri Aurobindo.  This is from his epic poem (720 pages) Savitri: 

"None was apart, none lived for himself alone,

Each lived for God in him and God in all,

Each soleness inexpressibly held the whole. 

There Oneness was not tied to monotone;

It showed a thousand aspects of itself,

Its calm immutable stability 

Upbore on a changeless ground for ever safe, 

Compelled to a spontaneous servitude,

The ever-changing incalculable steps, 

The seeming-reckless dance's subtle plan 

Of immense world-forces in their perfect play.

Appearance looked back to its hidden truth

And made of difference oneness' smiling play;

It made all persons fractions of the Unique,

Yet all were being's secret integers.

All struggle was turned to a sweet strife of love

In the harmonised circle of a sure embrace."

Challenge:   Charubel warns against cheerlessness, a sort of giving up, a lack of 'that native energy so requisite to ensure success.'  Signor Borelli sees 'a woman holding a bundle of faggots, her hair loose and disordered by the wind, wandering in search of something.'  One could be versatile but trying to undertake more than one can complete.  Brilliance combines with vexation or trouble, plus confusion.  Yet the approaching Full Moon gives large over-all vision, perhaps 'too much' to make one comfortable or contented.  

Process:  Mars in Gemini is still squared to Mercury in Pisces, and this could give 'an active temperament, a restless disposition, self-willed, of a turbulent temper, a shallow thinker.'  Mercury is said to be in its 'fall' in Pisces though it could reach to intuitive levels beyond ordinary logic. 'A man surrounded by others seeking a quarrel' warns against being impetuous or rash, engaging people in arguments before one realizes what has happened.  Strife can be dangerous so it is wise to remember that people just don't see things the same way.

Blessing:  However, Venus is approaching a sextile with Mars, now within seven degrees, and 'two Dutch children are talking.'  They are clarifying things, to escape the quarrels and confusions already mentioned.  'Common elements of background and skills' help us tolerate and make sense of one another almost because we have implicit self-confidence.  The Venus-Mars flirtation also carries a more exciting vibration.  'A large hat with streamers flying, facing east' could represent 'fundamentally phallic stirrings' which make us responsive to 'the ever-emerging  novelties and variations of human relationships.'  We could be on our toes to connect with 'the nascent potentialities of all life and experience.'

\Toward Intuitive, Telepathic Connection/

Challenge:  Even if uncertain of the best approach, people are acquisitive and perhaps wily, or using doubtful means in the pursuit of wealth, like 'a man in a mask standing beneath the shadow of a tree at night.  At his feet there is a dead cow.'  Some seek to plunder, but may be deceived about their ability to do so.  It would be wiser to be like 'a fox running along a path beneath the shadow of a wall.'  One could be wily and cunning, but with circumspection and diplomatic power, defending oneself without violence, avoiding danger---foxy, cautious, with 'extraordinary presence of mind.'  

Process:  Mental powers are peculiar now, with Mercury in Pisces the sign of its fall, where it thinks in odd backward ways or swims like a fish getting where it wants to go by sheer intuition.  It has septiles to Uranus on one side and Pluto on the other, suggesting a fated, unusual use of mental-intuitive discernment unique to oneself.  'A cube with two triangles on the top' is said by Charubel to represent 'an accurate reasoner; a profound philosopher who will make an impression on the age in which he lives.'  I suggest that Hegel (born with Mercury exalted in the opposite sign Virgo) might be the greatest of all the philosophers.  (Don't credit any of the anti-Hegel political propaganda some who have never read him have spit out for no good reason.) From the Sabian symbols we have 'a man successfully expressing himself in two realms at once.'  We might be able to 'shift from one to another focus whenever it proves expedient' and thus be proficient at what we do with unlimited versatility.  

Blessing:  As an urban dweller, I long for something like this: 'A large forest of big oaks; no underwood; all is clear beneath; hence a spacious vista presents itself, affording plenty of scope for wandering.'  (Actually there is a park like that not far away.)  Charubel says this indicates love of rural life plus a conservative disposition.  There is fondness for 'chasing' whatever one can find beneath the trees, with 'singleness of aim and firm purpose.'  Mercury joining Neptune in Pisces could add up to 'a conversation by telepathy.'  Human experience 'has its truest focus on a transcendent level,' says Dr. Jones.  'There are illimitable ties between each individual and everyone else.'  We intimate things to one another through 'organic and pertinent connections.'

^Groping for a Positive Mind-Set^

Challenge:  'Three men in a boat, two on one side, one on the other' is said to indicate rivalry and opposition.  This would be the Mercury square Mars aspect, still very strong and afflicting us for the past several days.  With the moon void-of-course for 12 hours, it would be good to avoid stirring up anger in any way.  'I see every object as a dull green.  At the same time everything is on the move.'  We may welcome the greening of Spring, yet Charubel says that we may not find rest, but be 'ever on the move.'  'He will ever be seeking rest, but find none, and find himself as far off from the goal as ever.'  This sounds like the moon void-of-course during a |difficult third of the week.|  Routines which are ordinary and needed may be the best use of one's time.  

Process:  'A step-ladder which leads to nowhere' could be the syndromes just mentioned.  One's aspirations are lofty but a lack of fixed purpose means one doesn't reach the top of the 'ladder going nowhere.' One might assume that one is 'riding upon a horse near to the edge of a cliff, looking down into a valley where people are at work.'  This indicates that one either has or imagines that one has a supervisory position.  One's superiority and honor could be real, yet dangerous if misused in a way stirring up the 'rivalry' of the previous paragraph.  People don't want to feel dominated.  

Blessing:  'A big bear sitting down and waving all its paws' may be fatuous or frenetic posturing during the 12 void-of-course hours, pretending to be doing something.  However, one has real aptitudes which one is trying to demonstrate.  One has the right to 'dramatize one's potentials and excellencies' in some way which gets attention. It would be good to have, at the same time, a positive, red-blooded mind-set, as symbolized by 'a square brightly lighted on one side.'  We order things and our lives in the manner in which we accept them in consciousness, through a prevailing set of mind.  Despite previous paragraphs, a 'genuine self-direction' is 'unimpeachable.'

^Escaping Gloom to Climb Creatively^

|Karmically serious, sobering, challenging third| of this week continues until Thursday evening

Challenge:  The weight of the world seems heavier during the |difficult third| period listed above.  Charubel gives us 'a large iron cross lying on the ground.  All looks dark, sad, and gloomy.  There is perfect stillness.'  If there is distress, we might overcome it by silent rest and prayerful contemplation.  More actively, Sepharial presents 'two wolves devouring a carcass in the moonlight.'  There could be secretiveness, revenge, dangerous treaties based on avarice, a roaming and unsettled disposition.  The keyword, Voracity, seems to recommend moderating one's desires.  

Process:   It's good to be aware of purposes allied with one's ideals, so that one does not climb 'stairs with a landing and handrail at the top which lead to nowhere.'  Aspirations could be lofty while actions amount to nothing but walking in circles for self-amusement.  A more decisive ascent is accomplished by 'a person climbing a rock in the midst of a fierce storm.  Flashes of lightning reveal the figure in dark outline, which appears strong and climbs well.'  Sepharial says that by force of character one can 'make one's away against almost insuperable difficulties.'  At last one conquers adventurously and, through peril, arrives at final success. 

Blessing:  'A triangle with wings' could just be blissful obliviousness of normal life, or it could be one's essential nature transforming everything creatively into a reflection of the vision ahead.  Without zeal for something, we languish.  With Venus conjoined to Sol, in good aspect to Saturn and Mars, there could be accomplishment in or appreciation of the arts including music, represented by 'a great musician at his piano.'  Individual artistry emanates echoing overtones bringing glory to all.

Challenge:  The 'man rushing on horseback with sword to meet a company of armed men' continues to represent, aptly, the Mercury square Mars aspect exact today.  We should avoid rash actions.  It is good to be fearless but wise to be careful as well.  Someone with natural wisdom, who loves the beauties of country life, could be calming.  Though untrained, he or she is prodigal of his or her energy or wealth.  The symbol is 'A wood in which wild undergrowth abounds, and many plants of different kinds and colors.'  

Process:  Saturn septile the Venus-Sol conjunction is something most astrologers would not take into account, but it is well-symbolized by 'a woman disappointed and disillusioned.'  Saturn the outward-reality principle blocks certain purposes and desires, sending them back to be repositioned or refined.  This is a clearance of the false or useless so that one can press on and gain increased power.  However, even in this |difficult third| period, Luna is forming a trine with that same Sol-Venus conjunction, increasing into the evening, and we have 'two lovers strolling through a secluded walk.'  We move in our own interest, toward shared enjoyment

Blessing:  That same double trine could be bringing into our lives 'a woman sitting in a chair as if conversing with someone.  Her hands are folded on her lap; her face has a pleasant smiling expression.  She is loosely habited in a Grecian robe, her neck and arms bare.' She appeared also in yesterday's report.  She represents luxury; also peace, harmony, and gentleness.  Cheerful company makes for pleasant living.  Another fortunate degree displays 'A man covered with decorations and ornaments, standing in the midst of a garden abounding with fruit trees, flowers and fountains.  While the sun shines brightly he enjoys himself with self-admiration.'  'Vain as a peacock,' he or she nevertheless is showered with fortune's choicest gifts.  So may it be for us.

Challenge:  There are two possible paths leading to trouble.  One would be wrong use of the Mercury-square-Mars aspect, symbolized by 'a man rushing along on horseback, sword in hand, to meet a company of armed men.'  This shows 'more courage than discretion' and leads to trouble through rash acts.  It could be hastiness, nagging, or disputes.  Or it could be quickly settling some matters requiring sharp thinking.  The other problematic path is represented by 'a man in a dark room at a table with books, papers and mathematical instruments scattered around promiscuously,' in other words, rather scattered and ineffectual intellectual interests which bring no benefit even if brilliant.  One might rather play with these multifarious interests or studies in a casual way to shore up one's true, direct path of destiny.  

Process:  Mars's other major aspect is a trine with Saturn, showing perseverance and earnestness, symbolized by 'two men turning the handle of a crane to lift a large stone.'  Whatever tools you need are available, with Mars in Gemini, Mercury's sign, and they can lift your prospects even if you work mostly at home (perhaps with another person virtually or actually).  The sun conjoined to Venus in Aries suggests 'a cameo profile of a man in the outline of his country' which could be Biden, Trump, or other politician or some non-political personage who gets publicity.  He might exploit and also be exploited.  Or it can be yourself in your broader role.  'The self'can be 'dramatized as a focus for group actuality.'  

Blessing:   Cancer can be a humorous sign, and with Luna there we have 'a comedian entertaining a group.'  We may play self-expressive roles which release both ourselves and others from inhibitions.  Though Aries is a male sign, the degree wherein the sun is today is symbolized by 'a woman sitting in a chair as if conversing with someone.  Her hands are folded on her lap; her face has a pleasant smiling expression.  She is loosely habited in a Grecian robe, her neck and arms bare.'  This degree has been highly significant to me in past experiences.  You may be blessed to spend time with 'a lover of peace and harmony who has many friends on that account' and could be helpful to you.

~Curious Ways of Finding Reality~

Challenge:  Charubel tries to describe a character we may meet today, or perhaps a facet of ourselves.  He is not easily understood, destitute of outward force, and therefore to get by is a little deceptive.  However, he knows how to deal with money shrewdly to great advantage.  Either this same person or another 'sits at a table in a very dark room with books, papers and mathematical instruments distributed about him promiscuously.'  He could achieve greatly in science or mathematics yet does not benefit himself by his studies.  These may be facets of ourselves we don't usually see.  It has to do with the square between Mars and Mercury, the latter in the sign of its 'fall' and so working in ways which are not easily understood and often seem wrong.  But all has its place, and this aspect could bring out unusual clues to which we are usually impervious.  

Process:  'A rug placed on a floor for children to play' provides a setting for refinement of personal skill or creativity.  We may relax in a place where others likewise are impelled to relax and be free-form or playful.  This might be like 'a group of vagrants seated around a cauldron in which food is preparing' who enjoy satisfying their appetites.  Like the fabled gypsies, they are alien to the culture in which they dwell and wander over the world, leaving opportunities behind, always seeking something missed.

Challenge:  Though the sun has entered the Ram's sign, we have as a symbol 'two men striving to hold a mad bull with ropes about his head,' and the head is ruled by Aries.  Charubel says this is 'a self-willed person who will have his own way.'  Mercury square Mars can be a fracas or disagreement, but not necessarily; the 'two men' controlling the problem could be 'seeing both sides of an issue' which would quell the anger.  Charubel gives for the first degree of Aries 'a man plowing in the midst of a boundless plain' who has 'individuality and originality; ambitious of being the first [Aries the first sign] in everything. Very jealous of a rival; not an agreeable companion.'  But as plowman he prepares the way for later developments.  

Process:  There are softer influences; Sol and Venus sextile Pluto suggest tolerance or interest in others' obsessions, so that there are 'fireworks exploding in mid-air above a crowd' or ephemeral popularity which fades with the fading colors.  Yet we go back again and again to experience those evanescent splendors.  The Sabian symbol for Aries' first degree is surprisingly feminine, 'a woman rises out of water; a seal rises and embraces her.'  The seal might be in this case the masculine phallic energy of Aries.  The keyword Realization suggests that we know at some deep level what the coming annual circuit of the zodiac shall be for us.

Blessing:  If the burst of energy makes us uncomfortable, there is 'a woman of pleasing appearance offering a glass of some fluid to a child.'  There are those who are kind and sympathetic, benevolent and inspiring.  They may be the secret support of the more active and assertive ones, represented by 'a strong man standing, dressed in skins, or heavy, loose, coarse material--the shoulders almost bare.  In his hand he bears a club.'  This is Signor Borelli's symbol for the first degree of the Ram sign.  The strength and passion of this figure can 'sustain much labor and perform great acts' by force of character and endurance.  We are 'well-equipped for the struggle of life in its practical aspects.'

P. S.  Many astrologers ancient and current have used the Vernal Equinox as the beginning of a new year and set up charts for that exact moment to foretell its course.  I have tried this repeatedly over the decades and have been disappointed with the results.  However, people's minds work differently and if an astrologer can work well with such a system, fine.  So far, for long-range outlooks I prefer the calendar months, which, as I have detailed here, seem to be amazingly accurate when used with patient contemplation.  I have not so far found a system which seems to outline the course of a coming year.  (I have tried many hypothetical systems, even the new moon of Aquarius each year which is the beginning of the Chinese New Year.)

Challenge:  'Two bulls fighting on the edge of a precipice' could be politics, as usual, but with a strong awareness of the dangers involved (precipice), and there is to be a meeting of U. S. and Chinese officials today.  'An airplane falling' could be the U. S. blindly succumbing to Chinese pressures, according to many commentators.  In your own situation you could meet a crisis by 'righting the dive' in time.  

Process:  Luna with Mars, while the sun is less than a degree from the beginning of Aries wherein it shall push tomorrow, suggest 'a straight column with square capital and base' or 'strongly developed and plainly asserted egoity.'  Egotism could mar things or make oneself or others uncouth.  Yet one could attain distinction.  'A monster plant of the gourd tribe arising spontaneously from beneath the soil' shows mighty energy and rapid growth of one's fortune.  This could be magic power but should be 'tempered by deliberate reflection.'

Blessing:  'The Great Stone Face.'  I have not read this Nathaniel Hawthorne story so cannot comment intelligently on the symbol, but Dr. Jones remarks that 'responsibility is an immortality of the soul.'  'Each individual selects the image within himself to which he would shape himself outwardly, and this he comes to resemble.'  The keyword is Discernment.  'Destiny is character.'  As complementing the aloofness of 'stone' we have 'a fertile garden under the full moon.'  One's struggles toward conventional accomplishment can bring 'high reward in worldly goods and self-integrity in using them.' Challenge:  The Saturn-square-Uranus aspect, very long-lasting, has been our bane, it seems to me.  It can be like 'an earthquake' because it shakes things up.  In some areas it could be airplane noise, for example (both Aquarius, wherein Saturn lies, and Uranus are connected with aviation).  Whatever the 'earthquake' may be in your own life, it is not an irreversible reversal but one which requires some modulation in your way of doing things, plus 'stronger faith in God, oneself, and humanity.'  The moon approaching Mars in Gemini, plus Mars trine Saturn, gives us 'a quiver filled with arrows,' that is, means of preparing to improve things.  We rise to the occasion, and might ask boldly for the service of others if needed.

Process:  Another significance of Mars trine Saturn could be 'an old-fashioned clock,' that is, an obsession with following an exact system.  One could firm up some habits to exactitude, following rules to the letter.  This could show 'a mechanical mind' or else some admirable efficiency.  As for more creative use of the mind, that could happen, but still with a search for order.  'A labyrinth in the heavens and a fine silver cord suspended from it to the earth' shows unusual patience in propounding and solving conundrums, enigmatic problems or theorems.  

Blessing:  'A prism' continues the theme of finding order in things, in this case a spectrum which gives color to life.  One finds that Nature is consistent and reliable.  Therefore one gains validation for any measuring judgments one has made, which could help either in study or in career.  Perhaps some seven-fold classification could be relevant.  (There are also seven tones in the musical scale, the octave tone being a repetition of the first at a higher pitch.)  We approach the Vernal Equinox or beginning of Aries occurring on Saturday; and the final degrees of Pisces, the 'end' of the zodiac, include this one (for Venus today), 'a harvest moon.'  Nature is showering us with benedictions, though the 'harvest' of Springtime differs from the autumnal one.  At its best, says Dr. Jones, this can be 'self-consummation successful beyond any possibility of measure.'

Challenge:  Charubel gives the peculiar symbol 'a triangle with a round hole in the center' and says it shows that one has 'good and amiable qualities and many gifts' but also 'secret notions which, being false, render one's good intentions abortive.'  As if they escape through the 'hole' of a false notion.  This could be Mercury in Pisces, where it is 'fallen,' approaching a square with Mars in Gemini.  One might be wise to place considerable trust in those who have done more study in a particular area than oneself.  Then one would have 'a quiver filled with arrows.'  One would be ready to 'make demands on one's fellows' (Dr. Jones) or 'bring to one's service whatever may help one hold one's place in the scheme of things.'  Such is a privilege gained through preparatory self-training. Then one can rise to any momentary issue.

Process:    One might search out deeper secrets of nature, either in conventional or esoteric sciences.  'A serpent standing erect within a circle of fire' is the serpent of wisdom, which is not hurt by the fire but utilizes its challenge to rise higher. 'He will take life at the crisis and turn it back from the Gates of Death.'  The quest for knowledge might also resemble 'a labyrinth in the heavens, with a fine silver thread suspended from it to the earth.'  Silver is the moon's metal, so this could hint at the use of Luna in labyrinthine astrological research, which is Cosmic Piper's specialty.  But in any area, it shows that 'one will engage to do what the majority of mankind would have no patience to do, propounding and solving conundrums or theorems requiring solution.'  This could be crabbed and 'labyrinthine' because of Mercury's position in Pisces.  (Edgar Cayce was born with Mercury in that sign and his teaching-lectures are very oddly dictioned, though decipherable.)  

Blessing:  The theme of knowledge leading to power is continued with 'a woman holding a globe in one hand and a scepter in the other.'  She has 'a position of importance and a mind fit for governing.'  This gives her security, plus some pride and self-love, with conscientiousness leading to dominion.  As we near the end of Pisces (Sol's place there reflecting our planet's annual revolution, with the Vernal Equinox here in three days)), the Sabian symbols give culminating blessings, today's being 'a fertile garden under the full moon.'  This is said to be Ultimacy, with 'high reward in worldly goods and exceptional self-integrity in using them.'  May the Luck of the Irish green all lives!

Challenge:  Getting rid of things which are bad influences, or reforming people who are hurtful, is an issue.  Diabolism sneaks up in many ways, as in people who are hypocritical.  There is danger of reversal in one's plans, symbolized by 'an earthquake' and represented by Luna's conjunction with Uranus in Taurus.  Discernment and understanding can test the ground of where one plans to build, as it were, to avoid any 'earthquake.'  Sepharial advises us to 'trust in Heaven and invoke its aid in all humility' and have 'stronger faith in God, oneself, and humanity.'  

Process:  One could feel that one's work is not rewarded sufficiently, and this could lead to 'an industrial strike' or a protest that one is not being paid as one should.  One does not want to be exploited.  There could be constructive reorganization of the job situation. If this went wrong, one could just be dissatisfied with things negatively, surrendering potentials rather than waiting for things to resettle.   Three planets in Pisces, including Neptune its ruler, can have occult, other-worldly effects, and Charubel says that some 'are sure to be possessed with strange influences, having a familiar or spirit companion and liable to obsession for the better or the worse' in accord with character.  

Blessing:  How far one can finance one's dreams is partly determined by what happens now.  Charubel sees 'a man in a large office writing in a book which resembles a ledger.'  This represents 'good practical abilities, especially adapted for commercial pursuits.'  Even if things seem tight (moon square Saturn) one could calculate possible future gains.  The Part of Fortune in the second house of possessions is a good sign.  'A harvest moon' is 'a symbol of life's moments of culmination as the threshold of new achievement' says Dr. Jones.  "Nature in her immeasurable prodigality is ever showering man with the products of her untiring creativeness.'  This is a benediction which can be 'self-consummation successful beyond any possibility of measure.'

Although we are in a new Bright Hermetic Epoch until May 15, we got off to a rocky start with the moon void-of-course for seven hours on Saturday, the first day of the DHE, and now Monday the moon's only aspect is a square with Pluto at the exact v-of-c time given above.  That is not exactly a progressive aspect, suggesting a need to consolidate past plans in accord with current business models (Pluto, corporations).  One might feel paralyzed at times, unable to coordinate thought and action as one would wish.  Regulating one's life sometimes becomes more effective after one has had to deal with challenges which require better regulation.  When things seem frustrating at an individual level one might turn to the political.  'A high flagstaff with a red flag floating at the top' represents a desire for revolution or radical change.  Focusing on a single issue is more effective than a broader agenda.

We had a New Moon this past weekend and are still learning how to deal with the coming month.  'A new moon that divides its influences' requires 'an instinctive and blind outreach to the reality in which we participate.'  This is tentative.  It does not have to amount to vacillation but is a finesse which sheds rays of light and action in several directions.  We remain ourselves when we enter into relation with others, as if at 'an old-fashioned well,' drawing in and giving out our experiences or thoughts about them. 

If responding to the moon-in-Aries vibration, one might be like 'a man in armor, fully equipped, bearing a shield.'  One feels sure because forearmed. Being circumspect allows one to be dauntless.  One can 'surmount the machinations of enemies and break down all opposition.'  (Borelli-Sepharial)  That would be an effective response to Luna in Aries square Pluto in Capricorn.  Faithful and just dealings add up to goodwill and security.  Some might even 'have great magnetic powers, and do much by way of destroying popularized evils, as reformers, healers, and philanthropists.'  (Charubel)

^Taking a Path to Serenity^

Challenge:  In a new Bright Hermetic Epoch for two months until May 15, and the second day of a New Moon, we may be weary of the past.  'The purging of the priesthood' does not condemn priesthood per se but its misuses or hypocrisies. The moon in Aries might think, "I am smarter than those priests (or teachers)."  People who make claims have to prove their worth, or be rejected.  One could appreciate the ideal they hold up, but 'purge' them if they are not seriously trying to live it out.   What shall replace them?  Charubel has an interesting answer in another degree for the day:  'There is NOTHING connected with this degree.  A blank.'  'Some mystery here I do not comprehend.'  To replace failed priests or deceptive politicians or malpracticing doctors and professors, the human race searches for alternatives, realizing that the answer has not come yet.  Or perhaps an elite few comprehend what that misperceived 'nothing' really is.

Process:  Venus, the sun and Neptune tightly conjoined in Pisces, perhaps the three Muses, could summon up 'a man playing a violin' or some soul-satisfying music.  Or if one's ears do not hear it, one could make music in one's mind, humming along.  People gather around 'an old-fashioned well' or a place where they refresh themselves not only with a liquid but with informal relationships in which people assimilate others' reality into their own.  

Blessing:  On the dynamic side, Luna in Aries, the 'leader' of the zodiac, aspires to victory through upright yet aggressive measures.  'An upright sword is set within a crown.'  If one is not a king, one serves a king.  If not a flesh-and-blood king, an ideal one.  The assaults of enemies do not prevail.  Therefore one's kingdom is like 'a peaceful valley with a lake on which a swan is floating.  At the back rises a high mountain.'  Quiet happiness grants graceful manners and an elegant body.  May serenity prevail.

Challenge:  The first day of a New Moon, plus the first day of a Bright Hermetic Epoch extending through May 14, might seem crowded with hopes, people and events, like 'an inhabited island.'  One might want to escape from the unfriendly or alien (the mainland) to be with those more congenial.  There one can cultivate, with them, something creative or inventive.  When in a more solitary mood, one could be like 'a great tortoise,' plodding in rusticity, contented with a retired philosophical way of living, trusting in providence.  

Process:  The desire for communal connections, brought to life by four planets in Pisces, can take either high spiritual forms or more sensual ones, such as 'a woman reclining upon a couch, scantily attired.'  Ease and luxury, named 'effeminate' by Sepharial (who preceded woke culture by more than a century), are soft and sweet but, says he, can 'make chains of flowers more difficult to break than bonds of steel.'  Dreaming and drifting have their place.  Eventually 'the opiate fails.'  So there is the option of seeking and searching for something enlivening, 'drilling for oil.'  This could be either financial or philosophical speculation, penetrating to immediate potentialities.  One could (according to Dr. Jones) 'open new dimensions of being by willingness to undergo risk in pursuing even uncertain objectives.'  This requires concentration or specialization.  Such selection should be easier now with the Bright Hermetic Epoch.  (Choosing a definite path might be easier before or after the 7 hours of the void-of-course.)  

Blessing:  Pisces believes in the inner, the ideal, the inspirational, and so we are open to the precepts of 'a big white dove, a message bearer.'  Whether through naive insight or deep-held conviction, we can 'order all personal desires in a cosmic framework, knowing when to act and what to do.'  Charubel designates the sun's degree as '* * *,' signifying 'one not capable of being described in words, who will possess great magnetic powers and do much to destroy popularized evils---a reformer, a healer, a philanthropist.'  This could be yourself in some capacity or someone you admire.

The New Moon of Pisces arrives at 9:01p PT | 2:01a(Sa) ET | 6:01a(Sa) UT

Challenge:  A great world-weariness sometimes besets us in the final days of an Old Moon, such as today (time of the New is given above).  This could be specially true during a Dark Hermetic Epoch (this is the last day of it!) when four planets are in Pisces, the last sign and so one of world-transcendence.  'A head and a hand separated from a body' is taking the syndrome too far.  It suggests lack of coordination between thought and action, a disjection or disjunction.  That is further illustrated by 'a helical scroll' showing someone so absorbed in reading his own scroll of memory and hope that he wanders around in circles, back to himself as the end and beginning of the helix.  Positively, some extra rest and calming meditation or prayer could be good.  (Some teachers say that all we need is already within ourselves.)

Process:  'A woman stands holding a book in one hand and a pair of scales in the other.'  There can be dispassionate judgment combined with elegant manners.  There could be coldness, for success in a profession does not necessarily make one popular, even though rich and healthy.  The deeper side of Pisces links us to other worlds and perhaps invisible entities, as in 'spiritist phenomena.' We cooperate with immortal realities which aid us in shaping things to personal convenience.  If life were not mysterious it would not be interesting. 

Blessing:  Those wanting to be active could be 'drilling for oil.'  Mars and Saturn are in a trine at critical degrees while the sun is sextile Pluto the planet of the earth's deep resources.  One might be speculating either financially or philosophically.  Pursuing uncertain objectives could open new dimensions of being.  Then, when the time comes, 'a table is set for an evening meal.'  Normal satisfactions fulfill potentials in charming ways.  Familiar scenes and people display ever-fresh facets of themselves.  While the moon is conjoined to Venus and Neptune in Pisces, the end of a day and of a week seem to sum up life's wonderment in a setting bubbling over with gratification and harmony.

Challenge:  Rivalry is likely, with Luna square Mars plus the long-lasting square of Saturn with Uranus.  'Two men in a wood fight a duel.  Between them lies a rich purple-gold vesture and a casket of jewels.'  One could 'win a competence for himself by great hazards.'  Efforts at gaining wealth and position, rather than leaving things to chance, are do-or-die.  Could 'a woman of dark countenance standing over a prostrate man' be Meghan Markle?  That is the opinion of Nigel Farage, but I am saying nothing.  This symbol could show a woman's strong influence as opposed to a man's weakness.  It might be dishonor.  'To either sex it is full of warning and threat' says Sepharial.  It could end as someone prostrating himself or herself.   

Process:  'A radical magazine' is every magazine and every news-site these days, with no one willing to concede basic reasonableness to the other side of the political spectrum.  People go off on tangents without thinking first.  However, there are possible delights of the senses.  'A man is sitting at a table with a carving knife in hand' about to prepare a sumptuous feast.  

Blessing:  'A big white dove, a message bearer' conveys to us transcendental or superior wisdom, which the editors, writers and readers of the 'radical magazine' desperately need.  Inner faith produces a constructive attitude of mind.  Convictions ordered within a cosmic framework bring divine favor.  'A man bringing down the new law from Sinai' is a custodian of enduring morality as shaped to current needs of the human race's evolution.  Who can be sure exactly what he would teach?  We could sagely be more humble when pondering and discussing political, religious, and ethical matters so that our ears would be open to a fresh, innovative dispensation of wisdom.

Challenge:  The remote and unattainable is our companion in dreams, dissipating with dawn and leaving a bitter taste because reminding us of what we have lost or not attained.  We are proud and forceful, in spirit, yet there is a cleavage between our will and the response of those we inveigle.  Still, we place hope in others whom we respect, such as 'a man dressed like a minister of state' whose basic kindness leads to a position of trust or eminence.  That is what we want to be also.  

Process:  Despite good things developing, the persistent square between Uranus and Saturn at critical degrees might feel sometimes like 'a forest fire quenched' through extraordinary effort.  When things are intensified, we discover our real potentials.  Our concern for the well-being of others coincides with our concern for ourselves.  We find our way out of every adversity 'guided by a divine instinct, having an implicit faith in religious truths taught and practiced by our forebears' (Charubel).  

Blessing:  You may still be working out money details, like 'a man with keen dark eyes seated at a desk with account books before him.'  Hidden factors in business come to light gradually, even clearer by the weekend or next week, though realistic answers could be here already (Mars trining Saturn).  When assured things are in good shape you might feel you are companioned by 'a little white lamb, a child and a Chinese servant.'  The scattered talents of multifarious individuals combine in happy focus, 'a special design of self-expression.'  Nothing acts alone; experience is integrated into youthfully naïve conjuration.
