Message for Weekend of October 14-15: Two Months

Two Months

[Daily lunar data at the end of this report]

I have a strong urge to consider longer-term periods for this weekend. I hope it will be interesting and helpful.

[I'm putting this in brackets because unless you are interested in astrological techniques you might want to skip it. There are many ways of dividing time, both in astrology and out of it. You landlord likes months. Your church or synagogue or mosque likes weeks. The Hebrew calendar likes lunar months aligned with solar months in complex schematisms, as does the Christian church when it comes to Easter. When are the "quantum leaps" which separate one time period from another, when it comes to human experience? I am abashed that astrologers are not asking themselves this question seriously. I believe it is a question which can be answered, not by arbitrary choice but by research.

[And so I have researched it, relentlessly over a period of sixty years. I have tried lunar months from the New Moon; lunar months with the Full Moon as their center and the determining factor for charts; weekly charts based on the quarter moons (the times when the moon is either square, opposite, or conjunct the sun); calendar months; half-months based on the waxing and waning moons; half-months based on the crescent and gibbous moons. I have been relentless and detailed and determined. All of these systems work, which is a way of saying that none of them work, which is a way of saying that your mind-set and your choice of time periods will determine what works, although the planetary positions do not change with your mind-set and so that is why we use them as our indicators. That is why all this can be a science rather than an imaginative extravaganza.

[I have "solved" all this, to a large degree, by concentrating here on the daily charts, daily aspects, daily forecasts. That allows me to look at a continuum of planetary positions and aspects, rather than charts determined by some quantum leap (weeks or months). And in fact I believe that this is the best way of doing it, although my ability to interpret or explain the daily aspects and positions is obviously limited as would be that of any astrologer or investigator.

[Still, we want to ask ourselves, "What is going on now in my life?" and we don't mean "Just this day" but "In recent days or weeks." That is where the longer-term charts come in. It may be a fiction that everything changes at every New Moon. It may be another fiction that everything changes on the 1st day of every calendar month. Yet in practice, one can make these systems work and be explanatory.

[My latest gambit in this direction is charts based on the sun's entrance into each sign of the zodiac. I do not know of any other astrologer who does it this way. But for the past few months I have researched it thoroughly, looking at somewhere near a hundred such charts for months in the past when things either historically important or important in my own life or the lives of people I know were known to me and could be compared with the corresponding charts, which are for the beginning of each Zodiacal month. That means there is a chart for the "month of Aries" beginning March 22, another for the "month of Taurus" beginning April 22 or 23, and so on.

[I am surprised how well these have been working, in my research. They seem to explain much which I have found inexplicable by other methods.

[I will not now explicate the method. It involves, partially, using "field systems" of the kind I have pioneered for the past 30 or more years. No other astrologer I know of uses these. But they work. It can also involve traditional charts set up for the moment of the sun's ingress into each sign, based on some place in the world. What is the center of the world? What city? I leave it to you. I have settled on two different cities, one in the Western Hemisphere and one in the Eastern, and they both seem to work.]

So, for now, what is going on?

The Libra month began September 22. It has not been an easy one. We have experienced two-thirds of it and one-third remains (about ten more days). Of course, in any month there are good aspects and hard aspects. Some good things have been working out for me, and doubtless for you. There have also been very hard ones--the massacre-suicide in Las Vegas was one, and the California wild fires has been another, and you can mention dozens of others depending on where you live on the planet and what interests you. I myself have experienced it as a time of challenges and yet of incipient solutions. That is, the solutions are not perfect yet or totally available and yet seem to be developing, so that there is optimism.

There are T squares in this chart, two of them, one with Saturn at point focus and the other with Pluto. This is most definitely suggestive of earthquakes, of which we had two, and of other natural disasters such as the fires and the hurricane affecting mainly Puerto Rico and Caribbean islands.

More psychologically, it suggests upheavals in our consciousness, a sense of urgency. What is my life about, we ask ourselves? Saturn is the great challenger, the interrogator who asks "What have you really achieved? What has your life meant? Is it really a good one?" and so on. That is one reason the Jews have been called the "tribe of Saturn" because their prophets, including Jesus, have been such interrogators and challengers. They provide the moral or ethical backbone of the human race, it seems to me.

Pluto, on the other hand, can be license, can be sexual deviation or irregularity or sin or violence, at worst, or else sheer greed at the level of shady business. I think of Harvey Weinstein. I have not followed his story carefully, having I hope better things to do, but I can't miss some of the headlines and he would appear to be a good symbol of the Pluto T-square in this chart. In his case it works out both with money and sex, two of the great temptations (Pluto could be called perhaps the planet of the tempter). Whatever your own sexual indiscretions may or may not have been, or perhaps they are purely internal and fantasy indiscretions, you may have been face to face with them this month.

The coming month of Scorpio begins very late on October 22 or early on October 23 depending on your time zone on the planet. It in fact looks somewhat easier, to me, and I am trying to resist a temptation to say that just to curry favor! For one thing, the T square with Saturn is gone. The T square with Pluto remains. The chart for Libra has 11 hard aspects (squares and oppositions) and 10 soft ones (sextiles and trines) while the chart for Scorpio has only 6 hard aspects and 10 soft ones.

Further, in the Libra chart only the sun was in Libra (a sign of harmony) while Mars, Venus and Mercury were in Virgo, Venus being uncomfortable there because in its "fall." The sun in Libra is itself in its "fall," which is always fascinating to me because Libra begins "the Fall of the year."  Some Libra individuals do in fact have trouble, at various times in their lives, with falling. (They also, I believe, have a tendency to "fall in love" at sometimes embarrassing or difficult moments.)

But for the romantics among you, there is much hope for the Scorpio month (ending November 21) because Venus will be in her own sign Libra, and the dispositor (ruler) of the other seven anciently-known planets. Venus is queen in her own sign. Love, fraught with no matter how many difficulties, has a chance.

We can discuss this further as the weeks go on.
