1 "An indescribable scene; chaos confusion, dissolving views." Sounds a lot like Mercury Retrograde, November 25-December 15. Is everybody insane or idiotic? 2 "A person entering a dark tunnel" could go wrong and seem unfortunate or hopeless. But there are five more paragraphs. Do you know why you are "in the dark" about some things? 3 We need "a sextant and compass" to help us find our way. Navigation, astronomy and mathematics are outer approaches to "exact principles, precision and certainty of success." Clear definition of needs and methods eases the perils of the first two paragraphs. 4 Then we could have "A field of ripe corn ready for the sickle under a cloudless sky and brilliant sunshine." There can be "health of body, peace of mind, a happy disposition and prosperity in worldly transactions." 5 Not enough? "A magician in sacerdotal vestments, standing in a magic circle, performs some magic rites." This might be somewhat superstitious, yet artful ceremonial which uplifts. 6 At a higher level, "A square, containing twelve small squares, resembling the breast-plate of the Jewish high priest" represents someone reverential and devotional. "A secretive student of the occult, he is capable of mighty deeds as a magician." 7 And so we are led up to "possibly as glorious a degree as any in the zodiac," according to Charubel: "A pyramidal figure with a Maltese cross on the apex." "Impinged by a ray from a transcendental sun, it denotes the greater good, the sublime and wonderful, filling the soul with a flood of celestial glory." Yet we should not forget the first three paragraphs, because Mercury is retrograde and there are challenging aspects focused on Saturn. The final three paragraphs hint at the higher side of Mercury Retrograde: psychic, spiritual and supernormal realizations.
