\Secret Assurance/His character resembles a black diamond-shaped figure;
Morose, with magical powers and a strong will.
When too reserved he could be misanthropic, cruel.
One of his victims feels like a young laurel tree
Broken by the wind and withered, spoiled by unforeseen
Misfortune. Contentment could be the beginning of
A calm regathering of forces. Though seen as weird
Or wacky, he has projects for the future.
Unpopular, always a stranger, forced in upon himself,
In old age he faces a vast dark space to the northeast,
Immeasurable reaches of experience which strengthen
The human spirit by their very unfamiliarity.
Is life a pointless paradox? he wonders.
Not when he's uncovered deep hidden assurance.
