I know the world is consumed with thinking about the latest developments in the Donald Trump saga, and that large numbers are secretly or openly hoping for his downfall, while other loyalists are thinking he has done nothing wrong. And many would hope for an astrologer like myself to say something helpful or reliable about what is going on or might happen.

I will probably disappoint you. I do not claim to be able to predict exact events in the lives of politicians or others. Astrologers pretended, or tried, to do that for centuries, and what did it get them? For the most part, ignominy. I myself believe that while some astrologers here and there might predict exact events successfully, no astrologer I know of can do it routinely and consistently.

Really that does not mean that astrology is not a valid study, or science, but that it has different uses and applications than predicting exact events. Are doctors supposed to predict the exact day that someone is going to die? Or have an epileptic seizure? They would not claim to be able to do that, and yet no one says they are "pseudo-scientists." It is not their business to predict time of death or of a seizure, but to give wise counsel to prevent both for as long as possible.

Astrology is something like that. I am looking at the chart for the past week when Mr. Trump had his peculiar episode of firing the FBI director and then suffering the consequences. In afterview I can see: Saturn in the 10th house of career for Gemini (Trump) (in one thoroughly tested field system) and Saturn in the 10th house of career for Sagittarius (Comey) in another thoroughly tested field system. These are two of the four systems I use in the weekly charts. Saturn in the 10th for both men shows anxiety and upset about career, plus a test in that area. Both survived it, in different ways; and both were injured by it, in different ways.

Astrology is something like that. It shows tendencies and, for the wise, shows their meaning. That could be spun out for each man more thoroughly and precisely by talking to each, in counseling, and looking further at the aspects in detail.

But I do not claim to be able to predict when, or if, Donald Trump will be impeached, as many would like me to do.

I would rather write a weekly report which offers clues to each of you readers as to how to understand your own lives and live more intelligently. That in itself is a tall order. But I remain confident that it could be done, by someone who really researched and lived the kind of astrology I try to live and research. I keep trying, and know that anything I write will be imperfect, yet I hope it will be interesting at the least and worth considering, and possibly genuinely helpful in many cases.

Things have not been all bleak. While the papers only talk about Trump's and Comey's crises, I noted Trump smiling happily in a photo taken yesterday, and Comey smiling contentedly as he went about puttering in his garden in another photo taken yesterday. So when I write some good things for "everybody" in these reports, I think those good things literally do apply to "everybody" although of course differently in each case.

That said, I have to mention that it is supernaturally amazing the degree to which the current planetary positions reflect what happened between the two men. One of the two "malefics" so denominated by the ancients, Saturn, is in Sagittarius, Comey's sign, while the other malefic, Mars, is in Gemini, Trump's sign. Superficially, one could say that Saturn is the sufferer while Mars is the instigator of the suffering. That was exactly true in this case, in appearance at least. (It might be exactly the reverse in some other realm or context.)

The week of Saturday May 13 through Friday May 19 increases that opposition between Mars in Gemini and Saturn in Sagittarius, as Mars moves closer and closer to Saturn's opposite point. Saturn retrograde in Comey's sign, Sagittarius, shows that Comey actually had to "retreat" as it were (to his garden it appears). Whether he will testify in a hearing or not we don't know. Mars in Gemini is not only moving closer to Trump's sun in that sign but closer to the U. S. Mars (the chart for July 4, 1776). All that might be momentous, or it might be nothing but dramatic hoopla and readjustment. I would not venture to predict.

More importantly, what does it mean for you and me? (I am one who believes that our daily lives and works and responsibilities and enjoyments are more important, literally, than what politicians and generals are doing.) It might mean that we are working hard mentally (Gemini and Sagittarius are mental signs). It could mean fixing things (Mars is the mechanical planet and Saturn the one demanding solutions.) It could mean steering through tricky situations (Mars is also square Neptune in Pisces) and resolving them or at least not suffering overmuch from them. Mars-Neptune problems often mean that "enemies" do not understand each other. It could be a challenge to develop that understanding (other than attempting to kill each other, which of course doesn't resolve anything). Mars-Neptune problems can also be drug or alcohol problems.

Mars sextile Venus on one side and trine Jupiter on the other is excellent. We should find things we don't want to complain about, and enjoy them. Mars trine Jupiter is an enterprise aspect, so in some area you can promote your own interests, or advance them. It is an advance rather than retreat aspect.

Yet, of course, the Dark Hermetic Epoch (or Slow Epoch, equally meaningful) is with us this week, until the 21st (a week from this Sunday). As I say until I am blue in the face, it means we can work on things and learn how to do them but perhaps not be absolutely sure we have it exactly right yet. We find it hard to apply the lessons we are learning, and yet we are learning them. We can apply them more fully when the Bright Hermetic Epoch begins on the 21st. I don't know how better to say it. If you think about that in relation to your major problems I think it will help. You don't give up; and you don't despair when things take time. Mars trine Jupiter means advance, but cautious advance. Patience pays off.
