A flock of wild geese share their indomitable

Desire for freedom with each other. They are

Insouciant. But an owl perched on a tree doesn't

See the snake coiled in the branches, though silent

And watchful. A morose man with will-power

Is like a black diamond: reserved, magical and

Cruel. Most would prefer as companion an elephant

Confident in his secretive and sagacious strength

/

Who takes up with a fair woman leading a child by

The hand. Together they gather flowers--peaceful,

Tolerant and concordant along the paths of earth.

Below his senorita's balcony a Spaniard serenades

/

Her. Both rejoice in the constancy of their poetry

Of living and music of desire. Soul is coaxed forth.
