~Seeking Concord~

1 Neptune is the planet of spiritual quest, and is at the focus of a T square with Mars on one side and the sun, Venus and Mercury on the other, so we feel like "a person at the bottom of a deep ravine, with lamp in hand, looking for something." This could signify, literally, mineralogy or geology, or looking for a gift of jewelry. On a different level it is any kind of speculation whether financial or philosophic. It might be seeking "spiritist phenomena" or the presence of someone absent from the physical world.

2 "Cross-swords" is an apt designation for the  opposition of Mars with Venus, Mercury and the sun. People are emboldened to rise up against tyranny in China, Iran and elsewhere. In the U. S. we have embittered rail workers feeling enslaved by Congress, and Kari Lake's supporters in Arizona feeling disenfranchised. When there is definite unfairness, may the "best man" or honest cause win. In some cases one might be dealing with "a person always at variance, involved in quarrels and broils" so that one does not know what could settle the issue.

3 Let all turn to "a large archaic volume" which could point out the Way of Heaven (Chinese) or of the Lord (Judeo-Christian). The T square with Neptune includes Jupiter, planet of religion and philosophy. The "volume" may seem "archaic," but "any path once traversed may be taken again with a greater ease and a broader self-discovery." A shared wisdom-background can settle disputes. We get "a gleam of the infinite idea of the infinite Principle" (Mary Baker Eddy). 

4 Then we may enter "a garden of many-hued flowers"  where people's minds are "genial, kindly and sociable." Friends and admirers summon up happy and fortunate associations. We are devoted to the artistic, ornamental and aesthetic. (It's the first day of Advent, maybe not too early for Christmas decorations.) Natural and human beauty "surrounds us with elements of concord and amity."

~Enabling Background and Mission~

0 A reader asked if I had anything to say about the current uprisings, or demonstrations for freedom, in China and Iran (and elsewhere including the U. S.). I hope to write about longer-term worldwide issues in the weekend report coming up in a few days. For now, I am studying the annual charts which run from March 20 each year to March 20 of the following year, and finding them very illuminating (as to past events). The Vernal Equinox charts for when the sun enters Aries, the first sign of the zodiac, have been considered important by astrologers for centuries and I am beginning to see why. Preview: Apart from wishful thinking, the chart for Spring 2023 to Spring 2024 looks much more peaceable and harmonious than the current annual chart which seems riddled with conflict.

1 Wednesday: “A man hesitating to trust himself on a wooden bridge over a chasm” has to do with Venus and Mercury, and soon the sun, opposing Mars, which can happen only once in three years or so, when Mars is retrograde (to earth-centered view). People seem to be interfering with one another, and so one might “be of a fearful disposition, inclined to doubt everything and prone to suspect even one’s best friends.” This has happened for me recently, and maybe for you. People see things differently and each has to discover in his or her own way how to walk over that bridge. One can trust one’s friends in certain basic things even if not in other questionable ones.

2 “A house on fire” is metaphoric and at best can indicate inspiration, enthusiasm and zeal for good purposes. One makes everything else subordinate to one’s definite cause or mission. Then one is trusting one’s own judgment more than someone else’s (paragraph 1). One does not have to exhaust one’s powers or commit arson to demonstrate adequately one’s “subtle genius.”

3 “A serpent surrounded by a circle of fire” reminds us of the tragic loss of lives in an apartment fire last week in China when Covid restrictions prevented rescue. More generally, “one may be involved in difficulties and surrounded by dangers. One might find himself in a beleaguered city or in a cruel distraint from which he will escape only with some hurt.” We think of the enslaved or semi-enslaved Chinese citizens or of draftees in Russia or Ukraine. People, including ourselves, may feel themselves captives of “stress and limitation.” The answer might be found in

4 “A large archaic volume.” Probably the Chinese Communist Party thinks this is the Analects of Confucius. I would choose the Bible plus spiritual writings from both the Judeo-Christian and Hindu traditions and their outgrowths (such as Savitri by Sri Aurobindo). “The past always provides an illumination of the present, and man achieves best as he cultivates a sense of obligation to his own roots.” Through respect for one’s background there is “recovery of prior advantages and effective disentanglement of present involvements.” And so one is able to cross that bridge.

1 The data above suggest the day could be hard to grip with the rational mind. "A person's face is painted with grotesque scrolls, and surrounded by a mass of tangled hair." "Vain and wild projects are not useful or fortunate." "The mode of life will be eccentric, and the expression of thought touched with grotesqueness and peculiarity." Anybody you know on social media? "There could be genius, but it is disorderly and unpractical."

2 However, peculiar or not, one can visit "a cafeteria" or otherwise secure what one needs, though it is wise to adhere to true and tested dishes. "Ease of function" as in a cafeteria "provides a continual reassurance of the self's competence" which might be welcome while the moon is void-of-course. One might dither in making some decisions yet there is full supply of what is needed.

3 "A man in a boat on a lake" is enjoying himself in an aquatic way while Luna is in Aquarius and Pisces. This could be any of us as "indolent and partial to the joys of Bacchus" according to Charubel. 

4 Or one might play cards with someone, "given to the hazards of speculation, hopeful, jovial, and venturesome." This is the sort of attitude we can have when the moon is void-of-course.  We take a vacation. One is "content with his lot, so long as it comes without effort. His good spirits will cheer others who might otherwise despond too easily."

1 “A black hole or cavern in a rock” indicates “vacuous projects and fruitless work, with meager fortunes and a position of no account.” This could be partly because one is “always open to receive benefits from others, but yielding nothing of his own.”

2 Contrary to this is “a plowman plowing” because he is steady and industrious. Many around the world are “content to live by hard labor.” They are the inverse of paragraph 1, giving more than they get. We need to trust, it seems, the laws of karma to adjust things while doing the best we can for ourselves.

3 All find a supply of necessities in one way or another, symbolized by “a cafeteria” in which “each individual has the largest possible part in the total reality of a civilization.” There is “ease of function” and “prodigality of resources,” with “a fullness of contribution and an effectiveness of requisition.”

4 And so on weekends and holidays, in retirement, and at various non-work times we are like “a group of cattle browsing in the sunshine.” We are “patient, contented, happy and self-possessed, following sedentary or homely occupations uncomplainingly while attracted to the calm joys of domestic and rustic life.” Ambition goes by the wayside, making way for placidity.

1 “A mill-wheel driven by the wind” is someone who works for others but gets very little recompense. Maybe we all feel that way at times, maybe even billionaires. “I get money, but not respect or love.” Does everyone exploit everyone else?

2 Those who speak up about this are having “a labor demonstration.” “The lines of property and private rights which we find entrenched around us are limitations without validity except as they constitute a social stewardship.” We may need to “dramatize our own justification effectively.” What says the cardboard sign you’re carrying?

3 Or we could just shoot “an arrow in mid-air.” “Fortuitous flights of fancy” might actually work for a while, but then inertia could result in decline or reversal. The arrow does not sustain its own flight. Back to being a mill-wheel which the wind keeps going? Or else —>

4 One might choose to be “a little boy in a state of nudity blowing bubbles.” He is “innocent, and lives long, but will do but little good or harm. He is ever bent on personal amusement.” You might know someone like this who is actually a pleasure to be around. Who can say that he or she is contributing nothing to the rest of us?

1 “A man of middle age watching over a cradle” is, in solitude, feeling bonds of kinship with those “enfeebled or bereft of health and fortune.” One might feel “melancholy resignation to the decrees of destiny” while yet trying to make things easier for whomever one cares about.

2 If one has “a quantity of books and papers in disorder” the disorder represents catholicity of interest rather than muddled thinking, for one’s literary and scientific tastes “will be cultivated and trained to useful though somewhat unpopular or novel ends.” One appreciates one’s own retentive memory and lively imagination and may either write or speak in a distinctive, applause-winning style.

3 If one is, metaphorically, looking through “a large telescope pointing heavenwards” one may love “sidereal studies” or other scientific interests. Also there could be clairvoyance if the “telescope” is an invisible one.

4 There can be moodiness, disappointment, and worry that some may be “secret enemies” while Mars is square Neptune. One cure could be turning to one’s deepest convictions, to inner faith and self-strengthening. “A big white dove, a message bearer” gives “secret signs of divine favor for a faithful heart” and helps one to “order all personal desires in a cosmic framework.”

1 “A soldier holding a crossbow stands behind an embrasure” defending himself prudently, yet loving daring and combat. (An example could be Kari Lake and her lawsuit in Arizona.) One is well-equipped to be on the defensive when necessary.

2 “A portcullis guarding the entrance to a prison” could indicate the mental states which can result in imprisonment, such as perverse misanthropy. Or it could show voluntary “seclusion and separateness of life” while one accepts self-restraint to regain spiritual strength.

3 “A labor demonstration” could have literal instantiation, as in the possibility of strikes by railroad workers in the U. S. For most it is rather symbolic of the need for justice in private property rights and compensation for labor contributing to the common good. One might try to dramatize one’s own rights or the rights of those with whom one sympathizes. There is value in representing such issues clearly and effectively to those who can do something about them.

4 Jupiter and Neptune together in Pisces bring colorful hints of the transcendent into our consciousness, as for example “a magician in sacerdotal vestments, standing in a magic circle, performing some magic rites.” Ceremonial has its place.

0 I hope you are noticing and benefiting by the |difficult third of each week| notifications at the beginnings of these reports. As pointed out repeatedly, this formula is basic and is real. Obviously it’s not the only part of the week (2.5 days) when “bad” things happen nor do only “good” things happen during the other 4.5 days. But if you watch it you will see how moods sway and how even the weather is more inclement at these times. (Yes I invite meteorologists to check on this, but they won’t, because they shun astrology as if it were a plague.) This time, the |karmically difficult third| ended late Wednesday afternoon to leave Thanksgiving free of it, thank Heaven. But it was exact on Tuesday at 9:31 p.m. Eastern Time, and what happened? Less than an hour later, at 10:12 p.m. Eastern according to Newsweek, the manager of a Walmart in Virginia shot and killed six of his fellow employees and then himself. For most of us, most of the time, our moods simply go down at these times, and we experience annoying obstacles or delays, but for some who are going through major life crises or who are drugged out or emotionally ill, things like the Walmart tragedy can happen. It pays to notice these periods and to work around or though them wisely. (Next week the period covers Monday and Tuesday, the 28th-29th.)

^ Thursday: “A tiger crouching as if to assault” “is treacherous and aggressive, seeking his ends with subtlety and securing them by force.” There is diplomacy plus assertion. One should treat people with strategic reserve and firmness.

~ “A person at a table with drawing instruments and paper” is artistic and could be good at, or at least experiment with, architecture or engineering.

& Thanksgiving as a family holiday comes out as “an apple tree whose boughs are bending with ripe fruit,” indicating “a person of fixed habits, fond of his or her home; an affectionate husband or wife, kind parent and benevolent citizen.”

* There could be the gregariousness of “a barn dance” to ameliorate the “strategy” of paragraph ^. “Self is consummated by the broadest possible participation in the divisions of labor which constitute a human society.” “Richness of living comes from an uninhibited sharing of everyday potentialities, with a maximum of happy give-and-take.” Happy Thanksgiving!

0 The effects of Mars retrograde in Gemini, until mid-January, are evident in politics where Gemini Donald Trump is being accused as the villain or upheld as the hero of a 2024 campaign. But they are more immediately evident in an impending strike by railroad workers which could upset holiday shopping. The webcast Breaking Points with Saagar and Krystal is doing the best job I know of reporting this. I am sympathetic with the railroad workers and support them. I am not sympathetic with the owners of the railroads who are forcing their workers to labor with virtually no breaks under stressful conditions, and I am not sympathetic with either party in Congress, for both are likely to vote for “forced labor” of these workers very soon, which verges on slave labor. Neither Biden nor the Republicans are being fair to the workers. Gemini rules railroads, trucking and the transport of goods. Mars retrograde there for the remainder of the holiday season suggests what is likely to happen.

~ Wednesday: The day before Thanksgiving can be exhilarating, especially this year because a |difficult third| period ends in the evening making way for a relatively smooth holiday. Are we tuned in to the glories of Autumn-Winter in Nature as well as to holiday food? Maybe, for there is “a stupendous waterfall” hinting at “the wild and romantic in nature and in art.” The humdrum seems too tame; there is a taste for the marvelous.

^ “A lion alone, with tail erect, running towards a panther” denotes, says Charubel, “a person of noble disposition, high-minded, honorable, bold, courageous, and fearless of foes.” Each of us may find such qualities emerging in response to individual challenges (panthers).

& Mercury with Venus while both are just beginning a trine with Saturn for the next few weeks bodes well for mental pursuits or research and analysis. “A prism” reminds us of “the reliability of normal processes and the consistency of true intelligence.” We are “able to take any convenient facet of the reality at hand and fashion it into an effective instrument for a measure of the whole potential.” Such validation of hypotheses brings “exceptional accomplishment through judgment of unusual accuracy.” Also, a prism makes for colorful holiday magic.

* The New Moon today anticipates the Full in two weeks, and “a full moon shining in a clear sky” points out “superior abilities and considerable powers of imitation and assimilation.” Shining by reflected light (through a prism?), one “will display faculties with such ease and grace, in places where they are appreciated, that one will pass for one of inherent genius and will acquire fame and wealth, and finally outshine all others in one’s particular sphere of life.”

0 We have a 22 day, 11 month, and 22 year plus the sun entering Sagittarius at 22 minutes after the hour (above). It is considered a special number because there are 22 Hebrew letters and correspondingly 22 Tarot cards, and so on. When the diameter of a circle is 7, the perimeter (circumference) is 21.99.

~ It’s the last day of an Old Moon, with the New coming Wednesday afternoon. We may feel lethargic but can recover with a bit of rest. “A man is lying upon a heap of stones by the roadside.” Some projects are unprofitable and some dreams lead to no practical result. Yet caprice rather than prudence is not always a mistake. “Freedom of spirit and love of natural simplicity will reconcile [us] to much of hardship and privation. At heart [we are] content.”

^ If ~ is a “sin of omission,” there could also be a “sin of commission” denoted by “a house on fire, indicative of an enthusiastic and inspirational nature, highly impulsive and headstrong, having a definite purpose in life to which all else is subevent. There is “happy give-and-take between any one individual and any other.” One description of this is the keyword Gregariousness.

Laws of karma repay honest work.

One is “elevated toward unconditioned creativity exalted to the point of complete freedom from any immediate involvement.” “The human soul is a consistent manifestation of its own genius from the very beginning.”

& Further escape from ^ is provided by “two men playing cards together.” They are indulging in “a life of change and chance, counting on nothing beyond the day.” “In the midst of privation they will keep a hopeful countenance and good heart. Even if not doing much good to others the will do no intentional harm, and their good spirits will cheer others who otherwise might despond.”

* This is the last day of the sun’s transit through Scorpio, sometimes a seductive sign. As if to say goodbye “a woman in trailing robes waves a wand around which is coiled a serpent.” She is “clever and cunning, asserting power over others by persuasion or fascination.” She or he is given “some lofty command or position of trust, achieving success by personal charm and magnetic power.” Ineluctable attractions are often unpredictable.

^ “A man viewing himself in a looking-glass” is, says, Charubel, vain, or “will devote his energies to some vain pursuit or profitless calling.” Methinks there are quite a few of them in our human house of mirrors.

~ Just the opposite is true of the person resembling “a mill-wheel driven by the wind,” because he or she is “ingenious and inventive, given to the study and practice of useful arts.” However, he has “a nature that is so yielding that he is liable to imposition and injustice from others.” He “brings inventions to the service of the world, without great advantage to himself; utilized without gaining much credit or respect.” Would you prefer to be the person in ^ or ~ ?

& The moon trine Saturn is good for working in one’s chosen bailiwick. “A man seated at a table holds a pen; before him are pebbles on a sheet of paper.” One has the instruments or technologies needed to bring out competent performance of one’s faculties, mental, physical, or both. Studies or researches could bring good fortune at length.

* Luna in the Via Combusta can amount to confusion, or dithering among various unsure courses of action. And so one needs “a big white dove, a message bearer,” a transcendental or superior wisdom. “A wholly naïve insight” reflects “an ever-constructive attitude of mind” so that reliable conviction arises within a cosmic framework, showing what to do and when.

^ When we listen to alarmist statements concerning debt, inflation, home costs, health issues, censorship, nuclear war, and the environment, we may feel like “a man walking on the edge of a precipice.” Charubel says that this person is “very sensitive and impulsive, who scarcely ever foresees danger until overtaken by it.” However, he or she is “affectionate, and honorable in all transactions.” Perhaps such good karma prevents a fall.

~ The woes of others may deserve our concern, attention, and prayer. “A man of middle age watching over a cradle” is “bound by ties of kinship or love to those either enfeebled or bereft of health and fortune.” Melancholy resignation or repining is one response to this situation. “Fidelity and natural sympathy prevent us from deserting” anyone in trouble.

& But what could we do to help? Pay heed to “a big white dove, a message bearer.” This is “a transcendental or superior wisdom from which one may always receive inspiration and assurance.” “There are always secret signs of divine favor for a faithful heart.” Our convictions can “order all personal desires in a cosmic framework, with a gift for knowing when to act and what to do.”

* Luna sextile Venus and Mercury is felicitous for friendly personal connections. Because those two planets are in Sagittarius there could also be “a disposition for spiritual and religious studies.” One may stand before “a rocky eminence out of which is carved a cross, standing against the rising sun as if haloed in divine light.” “The mind is firm and dependable, the tastes austere, and the whole character luminous, faithful and reclusive.” All that makes for Security, as if this “cross in stone” protects one from edging too close to the precipice.

^ Many of our symbols remind us of the extent to which warfare and military engagements have been the lot of humanity for centuries. Now that we are trying to break out of that bondage, the military symbols can be understood as applying to other than military living. “A soldier holding a crossbow stands behind an embrasure.” Charubel says this shows “prudence and carefulness, allied to daring and love of combat.” There is “full provision against the hazards of battle by being continually on the defensive.” Those of us not living military lives can summon up such qualities when needed in our own projects.

~ Those might include drawing, architecture, engineering, or fine arts. “A man is at a table with drawing instruments and paper before him.”

& We are young as well as mature, at all stages of life, as if “Three fledglings in a nest high in a tree.” “The individual first finds himself in the early and transcendental perspectives of immaturity.” The soldier of ^ is the opposite of this, yet in his moments of rest he reverts to childlike status as a reserve of strength. We can be elevated above our concerns and our work even while engaged in it.

* Charubel identifies this symbol by “ * * * “. “A very extraordinary person, destined to take an active part in public life. He or she will exercise a great influence on mankind.” Having our sights raised toward such a person, or such a personage implicit in ourselves, can make the day special.

I mentioned that Mars retrograde until January 12, in Gemini, could show Gemini Trump’s RErun toward the White House, and today I hear that Mike Pence, also Gemini, is openly considering a run against Trump, to be decided, he said, by early in 2023, when Mars still in Gemini turns direct. “The twins” opposed to each other in the primaries? Maybe. Interesting.

^ Thursday: “A mole” could be any of us when feeling “very reserved and very determined, with great individuality.” We might sometimes “hate the public” or bewail its stupidity. Is “the public” by definition stupid? Election results often hint that that might be so. Or, rather than hating, we might just be wary, preferring our own company and mole-like personal business.

~ If one is more involved with “what is going on” rather than burrowing underground, one could resemble “a serpent in the shape of the letter S.” Charubel says this is someone “sagacious, sensitive, and subtle.” “He or she will not be imposed on; will readily see through a plot; would make a good detective.”

& Mercury still in a trine with Jupiter gives one the ability and mental clarity to validate any hypothesis, if it stands test. “A prism” is colorful and vitalizing precisely because it reliably breaks up light rays into their component colors. Whether one is working with astrology, mechanics or food preparation, one can see how each component section of one’s project fits harmoniously with the others.

^ We are getting a lesson in what Mars Retrograde means (from October 30 until January 12). To me it is seeming as bad as Mercury Retrograde. Consider, for example, the widespread failure of pollsters to predict accurately the Midterm elections plus, more horrific, the failure of accurate and flawless vote-counting in places like Arizona. A mess. Today as if to underline that we have “A man lying upon a heap of stones by the roadside.” He “is given to projects that are unprofitable and to dreams that lead to no practical result. Controlled by caprice rather than prudence, he will have a hard bed to lie upon. Nevertheless, freedom of spirit and love of natural simplicity will reconcile him to much privation. At heart he is content.” (Borelli-Sepharial) One might say, reduced expectations facilitate contentment.

~ Other individuals will be inclined more toward greed than contentment, as if “a wolf standing upon the carcass of a horse.” A “predatory and adventurous spirit” is cunning but could bring on distress and contention, so that snatching advantages only leads to surrendering them. Selfishness may be normal, but stretching it too far does not bring happiness.

+ Is our culture a military or non-military one? The answer has to be paradoxical because while we have no draft, we give billions to support the Ukraine-Russia war and the horrid oppression of Yemen by Saudi Arabia. Who is the “man in full armor, with helmet on head and spear in hand”? You and I, by proxy? This might also represent political conflicts. When is a soldier “a good soldier”? When the battle is just. Of course that is a matter of judgment.

& Many are reviewing their careers or professions to clarify exactly what they are doing or trying to accomplish. “A prism” represents “the reliability of normal processes and the consistency of true intelligence.” There is reliable measurement as well as appreciation of natural beauty. Through the validation of hypotheses there is “judgment of unusual accuracy.”

0 I frequently say that I try to avoid politics, but how, when Donald Trump is scheduled to make his big announcement tonight? Love him or despise him, what he says and does is going to be monumental in shaping U. S. if not world politics. He is Gemini, sometimes called the Jekyll & Hyde sign, and Mars now is retrograde in it not far from his natal sun and Uranus positions. A RErun for him, or at least a hoped-for one. That Mars position today is the focus of a Yod configuration, with a quincunx to it from the sun on one side and Pluto on the other. This has been called the “finger of God” aspect because it often seems so fateful. A fateful return to politics seems in the cards. (Unless he were to say “No more for me,” which no one expects.)

^Tuesday: From Charubel we have “A tiger crouching, ready for a spring on its prey,” that is, “a revengeful, treacherous and cruel person.” Trump-o-phobes will know to whom to apply this, but others may see the “tiger” in his enemies. Both sides seem “ready for a spring on their prey” after the inconclusive Midterms.

~ The working class is represented by “a man habited in rough clothes hewing timber close to a log hut.” “Industry and stability will mark his character, while virtue and humility will adorn his soul.”

& More magic is afoot with “A woman in trailing robes waving a wand around which a serpent is coiled.” This is the attraction of “a nature that is both clever and cunning; capable of asserting its power over others by persuasion or fascination. To such will be given some lofty command or position of trust, and success will be achieved by personal charm and magnetic power.”

^ Weird election! It correlates to Mars retrograde in Gemini at the focus of a yod configuration with the sun, Mercury and Venus on one side and Pluto on the other. It seems that Mars retrograde, which happens far less often than Mercury retrograde, is intense this time, hindering clear election results. “A cataract is falling from one rocky ledge to another.” This is “a compulsion to fall from one level to another until lost in obscurity.”

~ What can save the day is “a cross in stone carved out of a rocky eminence, standing against the rising sun as if haloed in divine light.” “The mind is firm and dependable, the tastes are monastic and austere, and the whole character luminous, reclusive and faithful.” The keyword is Security, for which we yearn.

^ As pointed out yesterday, we have an unusual number of “negative” or challenging symbols as we traverse the month of Scorpio while one of its rulers, Mars, is retrograde. “A man strangling a fowl” is a warning against cruelty to any life-form, which is always bad karma. We should never “take advantage of the weak and defenseless.” That is actually a form of cowardice.

~ As for “a wolf standing on the carcass of a horse,” that is more understandable because after all the wolf has to eat. However, a wolf-like man “leads a distressful and contentious life, not long enjoying the benefit of his conquests. He will snatch an advantage and be forced to surrender it to others; and because of his selfishness his own fiends will berail him.”

& “Two persons fencing with swords” are having an honorable contest such as, in other formats, pugilists or gymnasts. One or the other “would not admit an equal but is a very formidable kind of opponent.” We see this in the House and Senate races and gubernatorial contests, and now in the congressional reshuffling with contention for powerful positions of party leadership.

* The lighter side of the day is suggested by “a balloon” because one may blow it up, toss it, or ride beneath one of the big ones to show that one is “capable of performing remarkable feats.” Whether this will get applause does not matter. Mars quincunx Venus exactly hints at inter-sexual or intra-sexual playfulness with no particular purpose.

0 When I looked at the chart for the period of the midterm elections, months ago, I was not pleased. I saw a starkly challenging configuration, with three of the fastest moving planets (Mercury, Venus, Sol) opposite Uranus and square Saturn. Not fun. But which party would suffer the most? I did not know. And now it seems the answer is that both are suffering. Superficially, the Democrats came out the winners, and yet probably the Republicans will gain control of both House and Senate. The Democrats “win” only because their losses were not as bad as expected. All are losers, or all winners, and all are challenged.

- I don’t apologize for the disturbing or annoying symbols which turn up in the 3x360 or 1080 different symbols used, because the three sets as a whole have proved themselves over a century. But I feel like “apologizing” for the fact that so many tough ones are occurring just now, for the past few days and a few days to come. The reason may be that three of the planets used to mark them out are in Scorpio, which old astrologers used to call “the accursed sign.” Of course it is not that, but it can be a field of ordeal. The symbols look better by Saturday, and also, with good aspects, by Sunday this week.

^ Thursday: “The accursed degree of the accursed sign” was with us yesterday and remains today, “but even this may have its purposes” says Charubel. Indeed many politicians feel that wherever they turn serpent heads and fangs confront them: “A serpent with many heads, all in a circle, with fangs protruding.” It, he, or she may “become a pest and a terror to society.” Take your pick of real or imagined threats. The point is not that we should fear them but learn to work with, past, around, or against what they represent. “Speak truth to power” and it may shrink back into its dark powerlessness. And bless the goodness hidden within it, for an even better result.

~ “Two men are fencing with swords.” This sounds like the political battlers again. “One who would not admit an equal; a very formidable kind of opponent.”

& Someone playing with, or elevated beneath, “a balloon” is “capable of performing remarkable feats,” maybe just for fun.

* Someone who has learned much from life is like “a man habited in rough clothes hewing timber close to a log hut,” that is, he is “content and laborious, peacefully employed and naturally adaptable to circumstances.” “He will fashion and shape a world of his own from materials nature supplies in response to industry.” “Virtue and humility adorn his soul.”

He may go counter to the opinions and advice of others, using good faculties to small advantage.” (Borelli-Sepharial) Of course this is a warning, not a fatalistic prediction. My fear is that it might describe the politicians who have won the midterms.

~ Or, some will go to extremes in using their abilities, so that they resemble “a serpent with many heads, all in a circle, with fangs protruding.” They could be “a pest and a terror to society.” Both political parties are accusing the other of being just that. He or she might “prove a curse to his relations and acquaintances.” That is strong language so let us watch our actions and thoughts, whether ourselves might be the “serpent” or someone else, or both.

& What is the cure? “A person holding a pair of scales in one hand and a sword in the other.” This conventional symbol of Justice indicates “a just person, though prone to become too severe.” If however the scales and sword of justice are designed to correct fraudulence or miscounting in the election, they are very much needed so that we can preserve our democracy from the pestilent “serpent.”

* In lighter moments we might be flying, or flying beneath, “a balloon,” “performing remarkable feats” yet not able to carry off “any one great enterprise.” Mild, harmless entertainments or pastimes could make up for the strain of the election.

0 I do not, in general, try to predict elections. First, ethically, if it were possible it might be wrong, because astrology is not fatalism and the planets, though indicating trends of test and trends of reward, do not control our choices. The will of the voters trumps the motions of the planets. I am happy that this election is happening near the middle of a Bright Hermetic Epoch because that could indicate that the tabulations and results will be less questionable than they were in 2020, when the election occurred during a Dark Hermetic Epoch. I am not happy that it is occurring during a week of intense aspects: Mercury, Venus and the sun opposite Uranus and square Saturn, in fixed signs. Moods may be down, which may or may not change voter turnout. Some may, by the sense of crisis in the air, be more impelled to confront laziness and inclement weather to insist on getting their vote in. Will that be Republicans or Democrats? Again, that depends on human will, not the planetary positions. One might speculate that, in accord with most polling, a sense of crisis would impel many to vote against the incumbents and for the challenging Republicans. (I am keeping my own opinion out of this.)

^ “A battered hulk is lying upon the seashore.” The Democratic Party? Many think that is what will happen, but maybe not. The Republicans, or some of them? Maybe. “The life will be a wandering and rudderless drifting upon troubled waters; and whether through his own fault or folly, or the relentless hand of an inimical fate, the fortunes will eventually be in danger of wreck and ruin, the native becoming a derelict from the great sea of life.” No doubt some candidates will be feeling this, but which ones?

~ Win or lose, some may be like “a buffalo standing on an eminence, pawing the ground and snorting.” They are “bold, independent and forceful” and “will suffer great privations in order to maintain the semblance of freedom.” “Independence” is the great keyword of our nation. Who will represent that most convincingly to the voters?

& “A man trimming palms” could be the voters trimming back on Democratic-party power, if the pollsters turn out to be right. In the personal sphere, this could be an enhancement of the beauty of nature in one’s surroundings, whether through seasonal yard-modifications or changes in house plants or whatever is relevant. “All natural resources” are “bent to the will of the individual.” Of course, people on the right think that includes the use of fossil fuels while those on the left think such use has to be “trimmed.” “The harmony between the workman and his materials becomes gratifying evidence of the soul’s powers.”

* For dessert, as it were (I’m being naughty), we have “A female in a state of nudity.” Pardon the sexism, stemming perhaps from the 19th-century sensibilities of seer Charubel who saw this symbol and commented that it shows “a voluptuous person liable to be carried away by the lower passions.” I didn’t know that politics, winning or losing, could stimulate such erotic energies, but maybe. Revenge sex? (Naughty, I’m sorry. I’m not immune from current societal perverse influences.) Let’s hope this will be a sense of well-being and contentment with one’s own body (nudity) and maybe “the bodies of others” (a book by Naomi Wolf) which is mildly salacious but non-dangerous.

^ The heavy hard aspects involving Saturn and Uranus in fixed signs are suggestive of “winter frost in the woods.” Not only the change of seasons but moods may be frosty. If it seems that things are “brought to a point of sharp suspension,” one can summon up “a reorientation in the individual point of view, and further discovery of the self’s potentials.” Then the “frost” would be more like the symbol’s keyword, Splendor.

~ Five planets are in water signs, with three (Mercury, sun, and Venus in Scorpio) forming a trine with the other two (Neptune and Jupiter in Pisces). “A Sun is rising upon the ocean waters.” There could be restlessness, travel, and coming honors, because discovery makes possible “fortune and distinction in some field of exploration.” The keyword is Illumination.

^ The “bear sleeping under a tree” gets an extra hour of sleep today before the “bees swarming in the tree” come to sting him into activity. Still, churchgoers and others have to rise and shine. Indolence, according to clairvoyants Borelli and Sepharial, could have bad results. “Que sera sera” is not a complete philosophy of life nor is laziness good for health.

~ The “young men in dispute, asserting opinions by the free use of cudgels” are all around us as the Midterms approach. Twitter might better be called Buzzer because those bees can sting. Consider yourself blessed if you are not breaking up with someone. In many cases this will not be outward breaking-up but inward musing on the problems one has with someone, including grief because one cannot find easy harmony together. It is good to pray for those from whom one has been estranged.

~ At a less intimate level these harsh aspects could take the form of “a market place in which several young men are in dispute, asserting their respective opinions by the free use of cudgels.” I just listened to two podcasts. In one (Megyn Kelly) there was a dispute between (a) one expert male virologist who claimed there was no evidence that the Covid virus was man-made and (b) another expert female virologist who insisted that it could have been and that there is evidence that it was. Without cudgels, they came close to accusing each other of dishonesty. In the other podcast (Tim Pool) “several young men” took on Elon Musk and his hesitant and confusing policies on how he might run Twitter, with these dudes claiming that he was likely to welch on his early promise of “free speech.” Of course there are multiple “cudgels” being wielded (metaphorically) in the Midterm elections. Mars virtually stationary while retrograde in Gemini (until January 12) hints at the fact that Gemini Donald Trump might announce his 2024 candidacy on November 14. REtrograde can mean RErun. The “never Trump” people wield their cudgels against the “Trump looks pretty good” people.

& The Venus aspects mentioned in ^ are sometimes intensely jealous. “A woman is charming snakes, one of which is twined about her neck.” This is someone “watchful and brave but suspicious and jealous. She will brave many dangers for the sake of mastery over the passions of others, and be active in attaining the arts of conquest.” But there is danger of “poisoned love” poured from a cup of jealousy. The long-orb trine of Venus with Neptune and Jupiter, slowly increasing, could be the remedy, a cultivated tolerance of those about whom one is inclined to be resentful.

* Not all drinks are poisonous, so “Two persons are seated at a table with beakers of wine before them.” They are “jovial and sympathetic” even if self-indulgent and inclined to gossip through “a very intimate knowledge of human character.” Some indiscretion might accompany “liberality and frankness of mind” but there is healthy comradeship.

^ Venus opposite Uranus and square Saturn can make for loneliness, a gap to be filled by something “to cling to,” as if one were “a lamb at a distance from its dam, but looking towards her.” Whether one’s affections are in fact filial (familial) or romantic, one wants to fill in that gap, probably with memories of someone absent (Luna with Jupiter and Neptune, both retrograde in Pisces).

~ The Venus-Saturn square is realistic. “I don’t have everything I need or want (sigh) so let’s figure something out.” “A fox sitting on his haunches is ever on selfish ends; he makes a good strategist.” The Bright Hermetic Epoch supports strategy, planning, and is near its peak (Tuesday, election day, though lasting until December 12) and so like the fox one can be savvy.

& Some things make you feel prosperous, as if luxuriating in “a spacious room filled with expensive furniture, among which are several mirrors.” You might be proud of your aggrandizement and fashionable taste, espousing artistry.

The grandeur and spiritual loftiness of this soul will attract many friends, and the work of benevolence will gather volume until it enfolds all mankind.”

^ The month of Scorpio can be challenging, sometimes a clean-up month. For me it’s been cleaning out my old refrigerator to make way for a new one. How could I have been living with all that junk? Purification is one word for the process, especially now that Mercury, the sun and Venus are making every-day-tighter squares with Saturn, the “fix it” planet. “A bear sleeping beneath a tree around which is a swarm of bees” is going to be spurred into activity because of his indolence and lack of watchfulness.

~ “A bull pawing up the earth” resentfully insists on having his own way. The aforementioned squares are in fixed signs, which stubbornly require all to live up to standards they may not appreciate or subscribe to. You may be the bull, or someone else, or both of you. Obviously some compromise is inevitable.

& ^ and ~ represent stress, but Luna joining Neptune in Pisces while trine the sun and Venus suggests luxury, as if one were in “a spacious room filled with expensive furniture and several mirrors.” One has succeeded in securing such artistic accouterments for one’s ambience.

* “A sheaf of corn” according to Charubel “denotes a practical benefactor of the ace; a good member of society.” Each is productive in some special way. Sheaves of corn and wheat piled together represent our autumn harvest of plenty, for which we give thanks.

The “clinging” can be done on the invisible planes, to someone passed from this world, to a saint or angel, or to Deity. There is nothing wrong either with “clinging to” or idealizing parents, that is, the best in them which provided a basis for one’s own strengths.

2 “A naked boy with a crown on his head and a scepter in his hand,” says Charubel, “denotes innocency combined with great native dignity, and promise of future greatness.” This might be a child of either sex in your life, or yourself. Let’s remember always the “native dignity” of children. As for ourselves, youthful innocency plus native dignity is a formula for releasing ourselves from hindering corruption.

3 When we are more self-aggrandizing, we may possess “a spacious room filled with expensive furniture and several mirrors.” The world reflects to us our good fortune and good taste. Any version of the fine arts embellishing our lives could be facilitated and appreciated.
