We are in the Dark Hermetic Epoch (May 23 through July 16) and I am feeling it more and more. It is a sort of lethargy-plus-contentment, at times, which makes one want to drop ordinary things and schedules. Why not just enjoy the good weather, or the rain, or life, and daydream a little, or read something one doesn't ordinarily read, or see movies one usually avoids, or . . . This is both the charm and the danger of the DHE. Those who play hooky from work are obviously pushing the responsibility for the work onto someone else. Naughty. Yet at times everyone needs a break, and especially now. My personal opinion is that if the world understood these Epochs, work schedules would be lightened during every DHE or people would be allowed to reorganize their schedules. Yet when one has commitments, it is of course important not to let them slide. 

Good taste accompanies work, the struggle to serve

Perhaps unwillingly; and as escape there is an elevated

Mood conspiring with Nature to make the immature

Liberating. Three crazy people create amazingly.

The Horse's Year brings aptitude, perception and a willing

Mission. Yet sometimes there's despondency, a failure

Of nerve, a loss of energy. Trying too much is much

Too much. Smart limits set deep confidence.

Fresh and constant partaking the course of life

And people's needs link all in sentiments uplifting

As threads which tie the earth to heaven. Someone

Is figuring what those mean and where they lead for sure.

The Dark Hermetic Epoch (May 23 through July 16) leads to "other worlds." It is peculiarly fraught with psychic insights, or perhaps supernormal temptations and divagations. The extraordinary seems possible. Everyone has to determine for himself or herself how to work through this, or play through it. It's an Alice-in-Wonderland time. People want to do things "out of pattern" and this can be either wearying or delightful to others. It has been observed by careful scientists that all animals play, even the worker ants--just sheerly doing anything or nothing for the delight of being alive. So we need to take account of this during the DHE. Even serious work somehow takes on an unexpected aspect or pattern; one does it in unusual ways; there is experiment. 

Things disperse in difficult directions; 

While workers work at grinding tasks

And flowers bloom, give therapy to air,

And cast their seed. Do not cancel yourself. 

Already grapes? Or fruit or much to gather,

And with it justice, fairness to a fault.

Yet somehow there's disaster if there's wavering,

Letting go what works for something worse.

Arts and sciences can heal, or aid the course

Of nature's healing. A man who has it all, in firm

Command, is competent enough to watch for danger

And circumvent it wisely, supermanfully.

If this "back-to-work" day seems impossibly nugatory, we might blame the moon being void-of-course all day, or the new Dark Hermetic Epoch (May 23-July 16), or the |difficult third of this week| or, in reality, all three. Ho-hum, what am I doing here?

Actually if you did not have to work this could be a fine day for spiritual quest, internal search, and spiritual study. Even if working you might wisely include some of that in your schedule when possible. "The world is too much with us" might be just what you feel, so you would like to be other-worldly.

Other thoughts could tend toward travel, a home away from home, or an old or ideal home recalled or visioned nostalgically.

It's early in a new lunar month, and the sun's square with Neptune plus other indications suggest some lethargy, or a need to be creatively lazy at times. Yet the lunation's trine with Mars suggests sufficient energy and initiative to map some of the coming month with uncertainty yet interest.

Realism identifies a path or paths, and useful values,

Though everyone feel inured to work, the grind

Of the ordinary. Still there is beauty and tastefulness,

A will to face transitions manfully, womanfully.

The loosening of the seemingly endless (for months now) Grand Square allows some four-star ratings, but not yet anything like five stars. 

You may note things slowing down during the Dark Hermetic Epoch (May 23 through July 16). This is sometimes good, sometimes not, depending on what you are trying to do. It can be relaxing. On the other hand, you may wonder why things take so long, why you either misplace things or get sidetracked or . . . This is "normal" during a DHE, so do not despair. You are not going crazy. You may need to give others extra slack, because they are going through the same thing.

The stock market does not necessarily go down during a DHE; sometimes it goes up remarkably. Yet some of the worst "crashes" happened during DHEs. Things tend to be less predictable. There are not necessarily tragedies, but there tend to be more accidents because of carelessness or absent-mindedness. Travel can be more complicated or delayed. But if one is not in a hurry, one can enjoy the side paths. It is all so much a matter of attitude--which is why you are lucky to be reading these reports; they will help you rise above the worries.

Three stars may be too optimistic during a |difficult third|, but we could try to bank on Luna's trine with Pluto and sextile with Jupiter. It's not a good time for major new initiatives in business. Of course it is the Memorial Day holiday in the U. S. anyway. The moon opposite Saturn in Scorpio the sign of death and rebirth may precipitate melancholy or deep memories of some who have passed.

The Lunar Fortnight of May 21 to June 5 (crescent moon) is smoother than the previous one of May 7 to 21. It should be a relief, notwithstanding the fact that a Dark Hermetic Epoch begins this very day until July 17. Those of you who have worked with these reports for years know what this means, not just through what I have said but through experience. If you are newer to all this, you will learn through explanations which come as I pen the daily forecasts. "Dark" does not mean "bad," any more than night is "bad." Night can be relaxing and refreshing, and so can the Dark Epoch. But just as night is not usually good for beginning a business, the Dark Epoch tends to be not the best time for that either. It is better to take things slow, do what is necessary but no more, and let yourself experience life in an "out-of-pattern" way. There, in four sentences I have summarized much.

I hope you have been benefiting by the |difficult third of the week| indications. Last week, here is how it worked for me: On Tuesday after the period began, a friend realized that he had left a very harsh phone message for a friend which he didn't really mean, and he called him in my presence to try to apologize. It was not working out well. Meanwhile I was tired of waiting for him to finish the call and walked off. Then he followed me and complained bitterly that I had left him while he was close to tears and going through a very hard time. We settled this fairly smoothly. But then the next day, Wednesday, still in the |difficult third|, he was out drinking--much too much--and got into another argument with someone who proceeded to land a punch on his jaw and broke it. He was taken to the hospital and not only that had to forego a special trip he had planned for the next day. By the time the |difficult third| ended on Thursday he was feeling a little better although he is still recovering. Things are not always that dramatic during the |difficult third|, thank Heaven, but this incident illustrates how seriously you ought to take these indications. People can "lose it" much more easily during those times and therefore they are more dangerous. Resentments, fears, and angers surge forward. The current |difficult third| ends this afternoon--you perhaps can look over Monday and Tuesday and sense what it meant in your particular situation. For those who are firmly in control, it can mean no more than a sense of solid realism about everything, perhaps with a bit of depression.

The Dark Hermetic Epoch begins Friday (for about two months until July 17). Some tell me that they like those periods and look forward to them. I can understand that. They are more relaxed in some ways, although many things can go wrong or get bollixed up. Therefore, if you have serious business to attend to, purchases to make, agreements to sign or otherwise certify, it might be good to do that today or tomorrow (Thursday). The moon's trines with both Jupiter and Saturn make these two days good ones for getting things in shape before the curtain falls on us once again.
