\The Human Drama Unfolding/
Nothing is exactly what it seems during a Dark Hermetic Epoch (see last week's 12-point explanation), and today this could be a happy fact because there could be pleasing surprises, or a feeling of exhilaration .
There are indications of giving up some things for the greater good, yet at the same time, the greater group might give up some things for your benefit. There can be rejuvenation, even when difficult circumstances seem to hold on. You have a strong sense of what is possible in your career, and that is liberating no matter what effort it requires.
Have you been indulging yourself in a gross manner lately? That trend may continue, unless you fight it off, or realize more deeply how self-defeating it is. Moralists and health proponents rarely convince people to change their habits, but a sense of reality could filter into your consciousness and help you be stronger to resist temptations which hurt you if you succumb. You may need someone to nurse you back into a healthy, hearty state if you have gotten yourself into a slough of weakness. Enlisting in a worthwhile project is good for you.
Deceptive influences are around you; not necessarily consciously dishonest, but willing to use you for their own self-satisfaction, not caring much what that may do to you. You are attracted to potentials at a distance which are charming in themselves, and help you to display your own charming qualities without self-consciousness. That is your natural right and spontaneous tendency. The beauty of human beings is reassuring. It does not have to get tangled in anything questionable.
There are disagreements, with the sun square Jupiter. When have there not been, in human history? At a certain happy level of detached consciousness, one can appreciate opposing viewpoints, including those opposed to one's own, as elements of drama which enable one to be oneself; the foils or dramatic settings which bring out one's own role, character, or mission. You may link with someone older on one hand, and someone younger on the other, so that you see the clash of generations as simply a contrast in styles which need not at all mar the positive value of what is developing through common (though often slow and invisible) spiritual evolution.
The trine of the moon with Jupiter (from Virgo to Taurus) until early evening should help you in friendships, relationships, and consolidating some temporary plans. However, when it concludes the moon will be void of course, through Tuesday until Wednesday morning. That "void" (though obviously not hopeless or pointless) begins at 4:39p PT | 7:39p ET | 11:39p UT. Moods should be good even after that, but the potential of plans going awry is there, so "take it easy" is wise advice.

Idealism returns; you feel inspired by ardor in regard to what interests you or causes you believe in. Despite opinion differences, you find that some others including younger people are influenced by your ideas or your confident style and so place confidence in you.
Travel itineraries may be back on schedule, as they were not for a few days. You can go where there is wide open country or an urban scene which gives you room to roam. It is true that many do not seem to know what they are doing or appear lost, but there can be adventure and entertainment. Purposefulness, and purposeless meandering or curiosity, intermingle; first one gets the upper hand, then the other.
There are questions of who is selfish and who is giving; which could be political in nature, or a matter of deciding who or what you believe in enough to make a donation, or contribute to its, or her or his, support. Political and economic opinions are set forth with assurance by some, considered skeptically by others. Meanwhile the forced or voluntary sharing which underlies a society goes on past whatever roadblocks or detours.
Being free of debt is certainly a desirable goal, whether for an individual or a nation, although if it is not possible one must make do with the situation. Deciding what to drop or leave out is not so hard when it gives one greater freedom to work with what one already has, appreciating what nature and society have provided.

Our old friendly enemy, the moon void-of-course, is with us again, because several planets have moved into new signs (the sun and Venus into Leo, Mercury into Virgo). It is with us all day today. When the moon is void during a Dark Hermetic Epoch, strange things can happen. Be prepared for the unexpected. People may feel like taking off work early, and may be merely going through the motions on their jobs; and then change entertainment plans more than once. It could be a time for "going with the flow" rather than too-strict plans; and also, since the moon is getting tiny, extra rest.
Whatever gives you assurance is helpful. Your world-scheme, your philosophy, helps you handle whatever is essential, and maintain your superiority to changing circumstances. A lot hinges on wise orientation.
It's enchanting to just daydream, sometimes. These moments of inner renewal are essential. During them you can pass through melancholy or upset. You can be solitary without being misanthropic.
It's rather amusing that the Sabian Symbol for Mars today is "A man declared bankrupt"---or should that be "A country declared bankrupt"? Amusement, at this point, is about all we can feel about Congress's self-defeating internecine machinations over the budget and debt limit. Whether they get to a decision today, I shall not predict. However, I think you will fare rather well with figuring out your own budget, preventing financial problems, delivering yourself from worry. You may escape into a place where you feel elbow room, whether in nature or an urban scene where you roam freely.
It is well to be alert to whatever could infect you, that is, physically or emotionally, sapping your energy or producing lethargy or depression. You could be susceptible to negative feelings or ideas. Saturday should be a more upbeat day, with the moon entering Leo and the New Moon in the afternoon. Today there is a fair amount of weakness or vacillation, but if you take things gently, letting them unfold without undue anxiety, all can be well.

Our Dark Hermetic Epoch
Since we are in another Dark Hermetic Epoch, and we have a great many new readers, it is time to explain it to them. As for you veteran readers (some have been with us for years, even perhaps since the beginning in 1999), it doesn't hurt to review all this; and for myself it is helpful because every time I explain it I get new insights.
The Bright and Dark Hermetic Epochs are based upon the cycles of Mercury as related to the orbit of the earth, that is, as we view that planet's motions from here. "Bright" and "Dark" are metaphors; there is no actual brightness or darkness involved. The Bright
Epoch is when Mercury is moving fast forward from our geocentric perspective. The Dark Epoch is when it is moving slower than the sun appears to move (which of course is really the motion of the earth around it). [Actually that is not exactly right because I have refined the mathematical formula for determining the beginning and end of each Epoch, but that is advanced astronomy.] Why all this should be important to human beings is a great mystery; but I found it out (I, Cosmic Piper, and no one else) and explained it in an article in Horoscope Magazine as far back as 1979. I know whereof I speak; but to put the knowledge in simple words is almost impossible. Here is another attempt. Please read it with your intuition as well as your logical intelligence. If suddenly you could see all the periods in your past which took place in Dark Epochs, versus all which took place in Bright Epochs, you would see at once what it means.
1. The most recent Bright Hermetic Epoch was from May 11 through July 14. The current Dark Hermetic Epoch is from July 15 through September 9. The Bright Epochs are always a little more than 60 days; the Dark Epochs always a few days less than 60. (This is an analogy to daily periods of light and darkness, since, because of dawn and dusk hours, even at the equator the hours of light are somewhat longer than the hours of darkness, in terms of yearly average. That is one reason I denominated them Bright and Dark Epochs, though they have nothing to do with the daily rotation of the earth.)
2. Another reason for the terminology is this: It is easier to map things out in a clear, definite, predictable way during the Bright Epochs, usually. (Because all this is statistically observed and observable, I have to use words like "usually.") Therefore one "has more light" in a conventional ordinary sense; one can see what is coming, more or less, and plan for it. Left-brain logic works quite well.
3. Likewise, it is harder to do that during Dark Epochs; but it is easier to be in touch with one's deep psyche. (Last night I was having very deep, vivid, meaningful dreams.) So it appears that the right half of the brain, the more intuitive or spontaneous half, has more control during the Dark Epochs. Of course I do not know if this is literally true but by analogy it seems true, over and over again.
4. Therefore it is a mistake to think the Dark is worse than the Light, in these cycles. It is just different, and has different purposes or functions. Our inability to understand that is our only problem. By analogy, think about the hours of darkness in the daily cycle. Do you not have wonderful times then? Parties, social times, television times, reading times, romantic adventures, dream-times? However, the dark hours are usually not the hours when you do business, map out business moves or financial moves, do yard work, negotiate, or complete transactions. Likewise, all those activities go better, usually, during the Bright Hermetic Epochs.
5. Perhaps in some ideal world, we would all take vacations during the Dark Epochs, and have the freedom to explore our own psyches and inclinations, and have remarkable adventures. Since we can't do that, and millions have to go to work every day, and even the retired have to keep up with routines, we need to make place, in other ways, for the intuitive and spontaneous factors within us which are trying to get out during the Dark Epochs.
6. During work hours, there is more mind-wandering during the Dark Epochs. Therefore it is, I believe, statistically provable that there are more accidents at such times. People are drawn into their internal worlds more than during the Bright Epoch and so can make more mistakes, outwardly.
7. The other side of that is that they can be more creative, I believe, during the Dark Epochs, or else a different, more unusual side of their creativity turns up. You might try your hand at poetry, some art form, or a different kind of sport than you usually do. A memoir or diary might be excellent at such times.
8. That brings up the fact that the past is alive during the Dark Epochs. Your dreams and waking thoughts will turn to the past, to old friends, relatives, old connections, thoughts, plans, hopes. Old friends get together more at such times; there are more reunions. This is all healthy, unless of course it could hurt your ability to make necessary daily moves in your ordinary world of necessities. One purpose of this explanation is to help you avoid such problems.
9. Sometimes things come to and end during these periods, more than in the Bright Epochs. There are more resignations. Probably more divorces. Probably, sad to say, more suicides. If something needs to end, fine. If not, you could make a serious mistake by, for example, quitting your job at such a time.
10. Untoward or sad things do tend to happen more often during the Dark Epochs. I think this is because we don't know about them! My mission as an astrologer is, partly, to inform people about such cycles so that fewer tragedies will occur. Since the current Dark Epoch began on July 15 we have had the horrid killings in Norway, for example, and the death of Amy Winehouse. Not because it is an evil time, but because people's inward hidden thoughts and feelings come forth (from the "dark") and if they are unbalanced, they can become victims of them. Thus it could be said that the "demons of the unconscious mind" come forth during the Dark Epochs. But if you are psychologically healthy, those "demons" can, instead, be dark angels of creativity.
11. Chaotic conditions appear. For example, since the Dark Epoch began this time, where I live there have been all kinds of interruptions, noises, people talking loudly, sleep patterns disrupted, and this morning someone's obnoxious cell-phone waking up the whole household over and over. If you are prepared for this, you can handle it; otherwise, you might think that you or everyone else is going crazy. So I say, Be prepared for the unexpected. Note that people are "out of pattern" and do things they don't usually do. There are more absences at work or school; and more dilly-dallying, and purposeless "hanging out," so that our subconscious minds can enjoy a little freedom to explore something more than the iron-clad world of timetables and schedules.
12. Perhaps most important, the Dark Epochs can be times for spiritual regeneration, for studying the Scriptures you believe in, the spiritual writings which take you to a place where you are invulnerable within your soul or where, best of all, you have a relation with the Supreme Lord. "Man's extremity is God's opportunity" to awaken him from vain pursuits and find what is ideal and lasting. "Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit. O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall show forth thy praise." --Psalm 51

}Demonstrating Heritage{
Depression is possible, as the thoughts "What am I doing here?" What is my purpose?" "What is my career or mission?" percolate through dim answers.
Even remembering G*d might seem hard or impossible at times; as it is for most human beings all the time, because there is no education in what the greatest philosophers of the past have understood about Him. "To him that ordereth his conversation aright will I show the salvation of God." --Psalm 50. The notion that the Psalms have been superseded by Facebook, TV game shows and video games is so utterly absurd, banal, superficial and contemptible that I am sometimes ashamed of the human race. Or, more likely, G*d is ashamed of it. Reading and working with spiritual texts is one way to begin to "order one's conversation aright."
Enduring through dangers is a human potential, facing them; while being alert enough to avoid what is avoidable and overcome the rest. Yet is it not necessary to precipitate dangers deliberately, nor wise nor safe. At times one can rest in the enchantment of life, letting it cast its spell when that spell is a happy one; becoming childlike so that one can then accomplish something adult with that trusting optimistic spirit which can indeed achieve smoothly.
Some things are suspended so that others can come forward. At first this might seem like sterility. You can find in household, office or workshop routines a way out of drabness through drabness: By "just doing it" everything is better. You can rely on your inheritance of a strong and reliable genetic code to work with; not that your race or ancestry is necessarily better than that of others but that you can choose the best in it to exemplify. That gives both yourself and your ancestors accessible freedom, or a route to "the promised land" (as set forth in the Hebrew tradition).
You seek for personal advantage in startling ways which no one else would have thought of. Envy can become a sort of religious underpinning when it leads to stalwart effort, though if inspired by ideals it is more sustainable than by mere rivalry. You may be alone when surrounded by friends, because something in you is not understood by them and perhaps does not understand them.
Is life a contest? We tend to think of it that way even if we are of a dour moralistic or flaming idealistic caste. You want to fight for your rights, somehow, to attain the freedom you feel bubbling up from within. Such a desire may be wrapped up in the ardor of a fight for a cause or for someone else's rights. There are ways to go about it which are nonviolent and ultimately successful; only you can find them.

It's nice to report that the weekend is what a weekend ought to be---pleasurable, even satisfying, with many smooth aspects and most of the harsh ones diminishing.

For many it is the happiest month of the year (although for me Virgo, the harvest month, is often equally fulfilling, as is Libra though with autumn setting in). The dignity of your inner self comes forward, and since others feel the same way, a harmony among diverse desires and wills is possible. While I write on Tuesday, it appears that some temporary (at least) solution to the congressional impasse over the budget is at hand, which could be wonderful. Everybody has been trying to piece his or her economy together in an individual way, sometimes through debt, sometimes through scrimping and saving, and it is a delight to see some of those efforts rewarded even if the ultimate solution remains farther ahead. If you cut out some pleasures which would be too costly, others remain and are enough.
The tendency to drift, or be indifferent to others' needs, is also a national (and universal) tendency, and so the picture is not altogether rosy unless there is intelligent fiscal responsibility at all levels. Cleverness solves some problems; luck (or divine Grace) others; while others require setting the sails intelligently for designated destinations.
Your hopes are compatible with those of others with whom you are affiliated. Differences of opinion and approach mean you have to sustain things through sheer faith at times. It appears that by September a lot of your plans will be on a surer foundation. It is now 9:21a.m. Monday morning in my time zone and I could have posted this 17 hours earlier.]

Lunar aspects, as mentioned previously, are mostly good all day. It should be a happy conclusion to the holiday weekend. Technically, the moon remains void-of-course until it enters Leo at 2:44p PT | 5:44p ET | 9:44p UT. However, since this is a holiday weekend, that should not interfere, although your planning might remain loose and free-form before that time. Lunar and other aspects are good through Monday, I am happy to report (though I have been a wet blanket on many previous holiday weekends).
