1 "A woman seated in an attitude of grief, clothes disordered and hair unkempt, holds faded lilies and roses in her hands." Is she a victim of unrequited love, or did she cause it incautiously?

2 "A Native American woman selling beads" has a soul fundamentally disinterested in everyday superficialities, anchored in an inner reality. Her Detachment is a form of creative aplomb. 

3 "On a jutting rock, tufts of grass hold a thin but certain existence." One can hold steadfastly to beliefs and principles even when that is to one's disadvantage. "It's the right thing to do."
