▪︎ Through Pessimism toward Ardour •

1 "In a gloomy sky filled with scudding clouds, blackbirds struggle against the wind." Pessimism can deprive us of faith and perseverance. Keywords are Doubt and Change. Dreams require confidence for fulfillment.

2 But confidence should not diverge into rufhlessness or inhumanity. "A mounted Indian with scalp locks" couild develop unimpeachable control over life through self-discipline. (But the scalp locks belong in a museum.) The keyword is Command. 

3 Similarly, "a man flogging a boy" is not a prediction, which would be evil, but a warning. Punishment just makes things worse, as those developing deep understanding of human nature come to realize. 

4 Maybe you'll enjoy a favorite restaurant, actually or in memory. "A burly man with an apron before him" could be its manager or an inn keeper. 

5 Through some kinds of imitation, vicarious participation in life is enhanced. Are you, or someone you know, "the first mockingbird in spring"? The keyword is Quickening. 

6 Spiritual faculties are in evidence. "In the midst of an aureole of clouds appears a triangle of flame, and an eye within the triangle." Some minds are exalted, aspiring, noble, and hopeful, full of the divine fire of a worthy ambition. The keyword is Ardour.
