° Toward the Overmental •

1 Elastic, undeveloped thoughts greet the New Moon like "a wave-line of nebulous light obscured by a cloud." There could be obscurity and Wandering. 

2 Yet there could be hints of "remarkable feats" blazoned by "a balloon," though not ready for any great success.

3 "A man trimming palms" knows how to Enhance things by ridding them of whatever is superfluous. 

4 At last we get to something more substantial, "a large building with walls of granite" denoting something lasting, including a great deed handed down to posterity by one favored with longevity. 

5 "An old book is open on a table, beside it a burning lamp." Ancient learning confers happiness. Someone studious and retiring achieves something of importance to the world through patient study. The keyword is Cultivation. 

6 Racial wisdom rests on fine discrimination. "A finger is pointing in an open book." Even, some of the secrets of what Sri Aurobindo named the Overmind could dawn upon our awareness--not to mention the far greater, virtually omniscient Supermind. This is a long stretch from paragraph 1. The keyword is Confirmation.
