One could exhaust one's vital powers in activity less than prudent though temporarily thrilling. At a peak this is initiation into hidden truth.

'A man on a platform with an audience in front' suggests a church service, for some, or connecting with something oratorical or literary. Shining over us, or in the west just after sunset, is Venus as the evening star and she is natural and artistic refinement plus a delight in the company of the opposite sex. The beautiful is with us in holiday ornamentation.
'A party entering a large canoe' means various things depending on whether you or someone else is directing the gathering. Practical details need to be arranged for the sake of group activity. Each one wants the others to attend to what interests himself or herself. Eventually things get ordered effectively. 'A mother with her children on stairs' knows that each has her or his particular defects and talents so that a child lower on one stair is higher on another. Extended to the community, this understanding gives a sanctioned place to each participant in any moment of Christmas Eve celebration.
