Santa Claus fills stockings furtively, disguising his prodigality that cures poverty. Spiritual values are kept alive by a ritual of giving. 3 On this holiday weekend, business as usual is delayed, making some feel like mendicants while others are glad to fill the gap. "A strong and prosperous-looking man extends arms forward, holding in his hands a bowl full of wine." His conscious merit and sincerity impel recipients of his generosity to hold him in respect. 4 At the "houseboat party" let's not forget the soldiers who have served their nation. It's Memorial Day.
