I have not said anything about Trump's choice of Supreme Court justice. I do not approve of him, not so much on political grounds as when I saw and heard him last night right after he was announced, I did not like him. Just didn't like him. I said to someone nearby, "I don't trust him." I trust my judgment of faces and body language. 

Nevertheless it is fascinating that Trump chose Monday to announce his decision, and Jupiter, the ruler of judges (since ancient times in astrology) turned direct less than a day later, on Tuesday at 1:04 p.m. Eastern Time.  The fact that it was still retrograde when Trump made the choice, plus the fact that it is in Scorpio, a fixed sign, hints at the very "safe" conservative choice. Whether this indicates something good or bad depends on your viewpoint, I suppose. Many on the right are saying that they would have much preferred the one woman under consideration, Amy Barrett. Having a young mother of seven children on the Court strikes me as the right way to go. We have enough old fuddy-duddies there already. It happens that both she and Kavanaugh are Aquarians. Trump picked the wrong Aquarian. Scorpio is the 10th field or "house" of Aquarius, the field of career, so Jupiter being there makes sense. If somehow the Democrats could prevent Kavanaugh from getting on the Court I would be pleased, if that meant Ms. Barrett or someone better had a chance.  (That does not mean that I agree with the Democrats on all issues involving the Court; not at all. But I try to keep this from being a political forum; there is enough of that elsewhere.)

Dark Hermetic Epoch Watch: (until September 2): A loyal reader of these reports wrote yesterday saying that not just one but about five different very difficult issues had hit her since the DHE began on the 7th.  For me it has been mostly internal issues, such as loss of morale and some time-wasting. Also, strange Internet problems, computer crashing and having to be rebooted, and just now a strange phone call with no one there. We need to keep up with whatever inspires us to "keep plugging" at these times, whether it be Scripture, other spiritual teachings, music, or whatever works.

Of course, some good things happen! The Wild Boar soccer team was rescued! Wonderful. REscue is also a re-word, like review, revamping, restarting, etc., all the things we have to do while Mercury is REtrograde but also during any DHE (a few weeks before and after the MR period itself). I attribute the successful rescue operation partially to the two Grand Trines, both of them very close right now. It is exceptionally rare to have two of them at once, making in our sky something like the two interlaced triangles in the Seal of Vishnu or Star of David (the latter was adopted by the Jews hundreds of years later than the former by the Hindus). So, if we look deep enough into our souls, we shall find that we are being blessed in ways perhaps not evident on the surface.

Wednesday:  A large, dull-looking building may figure prominently. You want to do something which has lasting value.

A cause, perhaps spiritual or else humanitarian, inspires you and you want to inspire others with it, "A large white cross upraised."

People are just and kind in proportion as they try to understand one another, as through astrology for example. 

A teacher, priest, guru or other servant of Truth is honest and sincere and a good influence.

The impact of human bodies on your consciousness is starkly illumining, or stimulating to your intuition and perception.  The septile between Mars and Venus suggests intense inclinations of mutual attraction. (I ought to say "Be careful," during a |difficult third| period.)

Some individuals are so intellectual, or inclined to muse on questions and theories, that they are not fitted for executive action, and may become poor. Yet they endure through some internal steadiness.

Whether more are indulging in either alcohol or "grass" or some other escapist pleasure under the influence of the Grand Trine in water signs, I cannot say, but it appears there is such a trend. It can be good if moderate and facilitating comradeship. There can be frank interpersonal "confession," or honest interchange of feelings and experiences.

There could be profound thought. Some are deep thinkers without wanting to "appear in print." Yet there is deep sensitiveness to others' thoughts and feelings. 

Character is evident in accepting responsibilities. That brings good fortune.

You might somehow be thinking about rural life or farming, even if a city dweller. People linked with the land and seasons have a more natural, unhassled way of responding to time.  

Irritability could be mixed with playfulness. If there is much to do, music helps you do it.

Your vision of the worth of things helps you dramatize purposes and attain them (even if in more roundabout ways during this Dark Hermetic Epoch lasting until September 2). 

You might adapt yourself to your environment in a convivial manner, with a strong taste for festivity. People exhibit their cultural or national backgrounds in endless variety and this is somehow satisfying.

There is more kindness and true friendship around us or available than we tend to realize. Opening one's heart is healthful as well as beneficent.

Warning: I am likely to go on and on, blah blah, during any Dark Hermetic Epoch (this one from Saturday evening July 7 until September 2). I find that always at those times there is so much crowding into my consciousness to say to you. I try to remind myself that sometimes less is more (and I am reading the stories of Hemingway and his commentary on them, which insists that "leaving things out" of his stories was what made them successful.)

Nevertheless: The DHE began at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Pacific Time, and I came home at 6 p.m. and found that the heating system in my apartment, which had not been on for a couple months, was on full blast, as hot as possible, and the temperature was 84 while outside it was only 72 and a window was open.  I didn't want to bother the manager (why do these things always happen on Saturdays? Saturn's day?) but had to. He gave me various instructions as to how to manage the settings on the thermostat. Nothing worked. Finally by 9 p.m. he told me to set the "mode" on "heat" while the thermostat was set as low as possible. (It already was.) This contrarian advice seemed to work and when I went to sleep in another room the radiator was cooling. 

Then at 7 a.m. I woke up and felt unusually warm. Going into the other room I found the radiator pumping away, as hot as it could possibly be. I endured this for almost an hour, not wanting to bother the manager on a Sunday, but finally turned the "mode" of the thermostat from "heat" to "cool." Who would have guessed, that worked! Sometimes in a DHE we do not feel we are totally through to the other side of Alice's Looking Glass. So the radiator cooled and "all is well" (?). 

The point is that all this happened just when the Dark Hermetic Epoch began, according to my exact calculation. (Oh, it began about one half hour before that but lasted many hours into it.)  

Be prepared for the unexpected. Also, be prepared to find yourself looking for all kinds of excuses to drop routines. I mentioned this in Saturday's report, within a whole paragraph of good advice (you might want to revisit it.) I find that

(a) during the DHE we do in fact need to deviate from planned schedules very often, for the sake of our inner poise, or peace of mind, or some damn' impulse or whim or other. Up to a point that is good for us. However,

(b) beyond that point it can be destructive. One might do more daydreaming at work, or take more breaks, and get away with it, but not get away with just not showing up, for an obvious example. 

And so (c) there is a need to maintain a balance between common sense (Go to work and do your job efficiently!) and uncommon intuition (I really need a break, some of this work is boring and pointless, I will feel better after I take a breather, etc.). 

Further, (d) we find our schedules changing because of factors beyond our control (my heating system Saturday night and Sunday morning, for example, which also affected the schedule of the apartment manager, etc.). A bus or train is late. A call is missed for some odd reason or your phone does not signal something important, and on and on. Someone else you work with, daydreaming, forgets to do something essential and that puts you in a position where you have to do double duty for a while. And so on.

But life continues. 

More, I can't stop:  The Thai soccer team is being rescued, we hope, for four of the boys made it to safety on Sunday. I must insist that although I didn't exactly predict this I came close, for last Friday I said here: 

The day they got stuck was Saturday June 23, when Luna was in Scorpio and in the Via Combusta until 11:33 p.m. Universal Time which would be even later in Thailand. Scorpio is a water sign and the sign of death. The moon goes through it every month, of course, and we survive, but it can be crucial--a good time to be careful. This time the "via combusta" was not the burning way but the muddy way. Unfortunately the coach of the soccer team didn't know, or else ignored the fact, that there might be rains (Scorpio a water sign) which could block an exit from the cave, and so they had a picnic there which turned out to be a serious mistake. (One of the symbols for the day, as reported here, was "an evening lawn party." They would have been better off sticking to a lawn somewhere.) 

So now what? Ordinarily I do not make predictions, but we are all concerned about this, so I see that the moon will be in Taurus, the opposite sign of Scorpio (and that of the moon's exaltation) on Saturday and Sunday, forming good aspects to planets in both water and earth signs. I am hoping that the rescue parties might find an entrance to the cave through the land rather than through water (Taurus is an earth sign). Without predicting anything, I might suggest that they ought to try this seriously on Saturday and Sunday when conditions might be favorable for it.

Was I right? Well, almost. The rescue teams did not find a way through to the cave from above as I had hoped. But they did manage to rescue four of the boys on Sunday, and I said that Saturday and Sunday would be favorable days for them.  In a remarkable way, the moon being in Taurus, the opposite sign to Scorpio where it was the day they were trapped, has allowed the first rescue attempt to be successful. Here we might even have a regular formula:  If you encounter a serious problem when the moon is in Scorpio, maybe you will find a solution to it two weeks later when the moon is in Taurus. (Luna is in its fall in Scorpio but exalted in Taurus.)

Further, I see that not only is the Grand Trine in water signs still with us, but now another Grand Trine in earth signs (or it will be in earth by Tuesday when Venus enters Virgo), forming a Grand Sextile which is very rare. It is very fortunate and we can hope, without getting ahead of ourselves, that all the boys and their coach will be rescued. One grand trine in water, which comes close to filling the cavern of escape, and the other in earth, that cavern itself. If there is success it will be not just because of planetary patterns (formal cause) but because of all the heroic individuals including the Thai SEAL divers who are putting their lives on the line to rescue the boys (final cause, or divine purpose as manifested through human wills aligned with it). 

Sad note: The one diver who lost his life in this heroic cause lost it on Friday during the |sobering or challenging third| of the week. That period had ended by Saturday and Sunday when the first rescue attempt was successful. The |karmically difficult third| is real and I point it out every week for your benefit.

Monday:  Willfully, people "want what they want when they want it" and could be aggressive. However, there could be an element of trust, of deciding to trust someone with a confidence or secret, finding that such trust in the long run is easier than constant suspicion. 

The two grand trines could make us a little lazy (in combination with the DHE), and content us with things as they are: "Why bother and struggle? Why knock myself out?" Some will be timorous and frail, seeking satiety in easy ways such as "smoking weed" or drinking alcohol or . . . "fictitious pleasures" as it were.

You could "rise to the occasion" in a dramatic way rather than being a whining indigent. What could help you do that? Perhaps a "true friend or constant lover" who never ceases to amaze you with his or her innocence combined with heartfelt courage.

Another Dark Hermetic Epoch begins at 6:30p PT | 9:30p ET | 1:30a(Su) UT,

The Dark Hermetic Epoch "casts its shadow before" and I felt it on Thursday and Friday in small but noticeable ways. People seeming to be "in the wrong place at the wrong time," for example. Schedules changing. I am writing this much later than usual. I found that I had another task to do in the morning which took much longer than expected. Then I really felt as if I just didn't want to write this. That is typical of the DHE. "Just give up, nothing is working." It is very important to be aware of and resist such tendencies. This can be a two month period of more suicides than usual, of more retirements from jobs or job-quitting, of divorces or separations, and so on. Patience is tested. Some easier course seems better, but when one adopts that easier course, one finds that it is not easier but harder. And so on. I would be remiss if I did not give this warning.

Saturday:  Mysteries. "A blank degree" says Charubel of the sun's position. "Some mystery concerning the number 4 and its square." 

Happenings and things ramify in interesting directions, perhaps inconsequentially unless one can "make something of it."

One may be unambitious and contented. What people get exercised about, in politics or whatnot, may seem irrelevant or going in circles. One prefers to stick with what is definite and simple.

That part of you which is determined to achieve something may continue to demonstrate its prowess, power and skill You may seem gentle as you do it but those who think you are not serious will find out how serious you are. You are loyal to some cause or ideal you want to dramatize.  (Moon conjoined to Uranus and square Mars.) 

People need to be attached to one another in some way which is neither too intimate nor too remote and impersonal. At best, Venus's good minor aspects could bring amiability and mutual sustainment: "Two hands linked in a close grip of friendship."

Many around the world are worried about, and praying for, the boys in the cave. I found out that the day they got stuck in it was Saturday June 23, when Luna was in Scorpio and in the Via Combusta until 11:33 p.m. Universal Time which would be even later in Thailand. Scorpio is a water sign and the sign of death. The moon goes through it every month, of course, and we survive, but it can be crucial--a good time to be careful. On might be rather easy-going and prefer an unchallenging time at home or in a favorite home-like spot. Yet there is a daybreak in consciousness, a sense of something special one can achieve which is one's own (moon in Aries trine Venus in Leo). One does not feel rushed about this, but reassured.

You may note that some are lazy, trying to get by through charlatanism or pretending to be what they are not. They usurp someone else's throne if they can. (This would be all right if it were simply emulating a role model.)

One dramatizes oneself according to a vision of one's own worth. Opposing viewpoints from others could lead to quarrels. When both believe that the other is trying to destroy something precious, there is trouble until there can be some small agreement such as agreeing to disagree while respecting each other's rights. 

The trine of the moon to Venus, gathering energy in the evening, presages some good times with someone who is frank, generous, and willing to share her or his feelings and hopes while listening to yours.

^Reliable Boat in Troubled Waters^

The most difficult 24 hours of that period (mathematically) end tonight at 7:54p PT | 10:54p ET | 2:54a(F) UT

Mercury opposite Mars, still with us by less than a degree, is a "bee in one's bonnet" aspect and we are seeing (or hearing) that buzzing in regard to the Supreme Court nominee, whoever that might be on Monday. There can be anger and irritation about small matters, as well---but also, positively, a strong determination to push forward with some intellectual interest, study, research, or thought project. The |difficult third| is good for concentration on essentials, for one can just tune out emotional responses and upsets ruthlessly, knowing that it does no good to let them drag down one's efficiency. 

The grand trine in water signs is interesting in regard to the 13 individuals trapped in a cave in Thailand, because (a) they would have to traverse water in a dangerous and difficult manner for which the boys have no training in order to get out, and (b) the authorities are pumping water from the ground around the cave for further safety. This is an example of how a grand trine, always in one element of the zodiac, this time water, can be too much of a good thing. However, the fact that it is a generally favorable indication might mean the boys have a good chance of being rescued. Let us pray for that. I hope some other easier alternative becomes available. Caves, in general, are ruled by Capricorn, wherein Saturn lies, retrograde. 

Thursday:  

There is versatility. One can juggle with a lot of different factors.

"A rainbow" suggests "spiritual power and presence" which we all need.

Being contented with one's lot is not a bad option, despite all the voices in the media telling us we need to do something other than what we are doing. Success can come along paths which one has made easy for oneself by one's familiarity with them. Such success can arrive through connections, either by marriage or friendly association, as much as direct effort. 

One might spring into action to defend someone or some cause. This is loyalty to ideals. Yet there is retiring patience and firmness in this, steadfastness. The tortoise may overtake the hare.

There can be frank comradeship, despite the |difficult third|, with sympathy for others' foibles or weaknesses, "Two men seated at a table with beakers of wine before them."  (No more than 14 drinks a week for a male and 9 for a female, say the medical oracles.) That could be the Grand Trine in water, for the worse or the better. Cheers!

~Laid-Back Cultivation of Tolerance~

The exact center of it is Thursday at 7:54a PT | 10:54a ET | 2:54p UT and so

the hardest 24 hours of this week, in some emotional way, could be from this evening at 7:54p PT | 10:54p ET | 2:54a(Th) UT until 24 hours later, Thursday evening. 

It's a pretty laid-back 4th. With both v-of-c and |difficult third| we could expect some foul moods. If those are internal and held back from expression, they could create hidden but felt tension in everyone. If they come out angrily there could be trouble. Mercury slowing down is opposite Mars within a degree and both are at critical degrees. Let fireworks be in the sky and not in words or fists! 

Intellect is active, and so is concern about career or honorable purpose. So though people may not talk about it directly, thoughts of "How can I do better in my work?" are likely to be in everyone's mind under the surface. Of course this is a desire for approval and if it seems to be challenged could make people testy. Self-worth has to be earned, they feel, but also feel that no one else has the right to judge superficially. 

Some may busy themselves with manual tasks such as food preparation.  There seems no end to the details. One can endure all the trivia if one feels adequate within oneself, "a camel crossing the desert." With v-of-c, improvisation could be better than over-planning.

Contentment comes from toning down ambitions to what is doable today rather than getting too far ahead in thoughts of the future. Moods keep changing. Versatility in mental activity and the gaining of knowledge is for the better. There is always more to learn, and one can see both sides of things.

Yet one wants to be dramatic in stating one's own position or defending it, because one feels that someone else does not "get" what one feels to be deeply true. There could be instability in passions or emotions which invert things or, at worst, seem to make a friend an enemy or frenemy. 

The comforting symbol of "A dove" which represents someone innocent and harmless--a true friend and constant lover--is still with us and can remind us to be kind to those who have, at least in the past, been kind to us. That would bring out the Grand Trine in water signs which can be sympathy toward all--a willingness to go along with or assuage their difficulties or worries or even their anger.

~Harmonizing Sensitivity~

People may be melancholy, thinking of "July 4ths past" and feeling that someone or something is missing.

Yet at times there is an audacious, liberating attitude proclaiming "I can do anything."

Taking one's time is a relief from stress. There seems a lot to be done (Mercury opposite Mars) but Mars is retrograde and Mercury is slowing down, so we may get more done by being less hurried and hassled.

We mentioned melancholy. If it were to go bad it could lead to taciturnity and oppression or cruelty. One would not feel good about hurting someone yet might be tempted to endure the hurt for the sake of hurting. Let's be very careful. Anger stems from envy or false pride. Or, if it is "righteous wrath" directed against really wrong attitudes in others, still it needs to be modified wisely to do other than make things worse. 

One might want to defend someone, or some group, to whom or to which one feels loyal. 

Someone intelligent, peaceful, and harmonious, whether near you or far away, living or beyond the pale, is diplomatic and intuitive and can be a help for you when things seem bleak.

A "true friend or constant lover," who acts more from the heart than the head, is somehow available to you. If only in memory, that could be part of your melancholy; but we are looking forward to a holiday so good things could happen. In fact, today might be "better" in some ways than tomorrow, when the |karmically sobering or challenging third| of this week begins.

~Some Social Satisfaction Calms Stress~

Drudging along with necessary or habitual routines when one feels rather like sleeping or daydreaming is one of the things we routinely do when the moon is v-of-c, such as it is early in this "blue Monday." Later when Luna has entered Pisces, the Grand Trine of sun, Jupiter and Neptune in water signs should be more noticeable. It gives solid support at the emotional level.

There could be artistry and music.

You can gain enlightenment on any critical issue by just paying attention to the messages filtering in to your consciousness, from external or internal sources, while you do your best at what you do.

Mercury opposite Mars while both are square Uranus could be "too much ambition," so reducing ambitions could help you calm down and find the right moderate path. If you feel you are stranded on a sandbank, you can use the time for internal redevelopment rather than pointless fretting.

Deep loyalties help you dramatize your power to stay the course. Then you will be careful not to be injured by others' actions or words. Rather than become nervous and nagging, you can maintain poise if treated unfairly. 

Personal romance seems subordinated to work, for the most part, and yet someone who is "a true friend and constant lover," whose feelings are innocent and heartfelt, remains there for you in one way or another, whether you spend time with her or him or not.

}Interesting Potentials Percolate{

The spider watching silly flies could be Jeff Sessions, who is bringing charges against doctors and others who have been profiting from the opioid trade while their "patients" (victims) suffer even to the point of suicide. It could be (as it has been for so long) Robert Mueller. It could be congressional Republicans who are angry with Rod Rosenstein. It could be Trump or Putin or . . . People may  be "closing in on the prey." Five retrograde planets help them gather evidence from the past. 

Fidelity to ceremonies, rituals, everyday or weekend routines which have sustained you previously could sustain you now in a strong manner.

The five retrograde planets suggest profiting from the past, from memory and recollection and review, from history and what others, including so-called "dead" people, have accomplished. 

You stand out in some groups of people, and this could make you popular, yet you focus not on the approbation (which is temporary) but on what you are trying to achieve.

Law and order, and the Mueller investigation, and the Supreme Court, are in the news or in people's thoughts. Who is the clever detective-lawyer and who are the silly flies? (I am not pretending to have the answer up my sleeve!)

There is congeniality, "A houseboat part," with another Grand Trine in water signs, this time the sun, Jupiter and Neptune. Parties can be good while the moon is v-of-c, provided everyone is just basically decent and careful (prophylactic against the usual party consciousness which is deliberately the opposite of decent and careful). 

The retrospective, in consciousness, can be as good as the prospective (five retrograde planets including Mars now). This could be your own memories, or reflections borrowed from books, movies or conversations.

Ambitions are with us (moon in Capricorn) but are not overweening and deserve a rest while the moon is v-of-c.  Modesty and humility bring contentment.

Being popular, maybe unexpectedly, is a thrill while it lasts (Venus in Leo at the center of a Yod formation). But there is no reason to cling to such approbation in an unseemly manner. 

Pride and obstinacy can amount to foolishness, but we see that in others before we see it in ourselves. Running the wrong way on a football field is pretty embarrassing. However, all have made their booboos, and there is joviality, sympathy with one another's weaknesses, and frank comradeship.

\Difficult Times Do Not Impede Amiability/

However, on Friday the moon will be void-of-course until very late in the evening. Things are not hopeless but we need fortitude.

Saying what one knows about everybody could be gossip, or slander, or just interesting conversation, but could have a payback.

The moon with Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn gives a focus on study or learning, instruction given or received. This can be detailed and demands concentration but is interesting. 

What seems old, decayed, or decadent, or just out of fashion, can still be worth reviewing and appreciating, whether universal or personal history.

Worldly seductions ever tempt us away from "the strait and narrow" or conventional, faithful family-community loyalties. One might abandon oneself to a hidden attachment (moon conjoining Pluto which is tri-septile Venus). If your life is not that banefully colorful, you could be hearing or reading about such thrilling but questionable connections. 

You may be popular briefly with a friend who is momentarily in trouble. There is joviality even when there are indiscretions, a sharing of weaknesses within comradeship. 

Someone in a powerful position whom you admire is truly good and shines with brilliant schemes plus generosity. You benefit from her or his efforts.

The center and (theoretically) most difficult point in the |difficult third| occurs at 8:34p PT | 11:34p ET | 3:34a(Th) UT today

and so the most difficult 24 hour period of this week, from one perspective,  could begin today at 8:34a PT | 11:34a ET | 3:34p UT and continue until exactly one day later on Thursday morning. Don't be surprised if some things seem bleak to you. If you're 40, you've been through the |difficult third| at least 2,080 times, so there is nothing to fear. On the other hand, I maintain based on decades of observation that there are more accidents, desperate or violent crimes and suicides during these periods. The problem is that no matter how many times one has been through this, it can seem overwhelming while it lasts. But of course there are other, brighter aspects to tune in to, such as the sun's increasing trine with Jupiter and Neptune, another Grand Trine to bless the next couple of weeks. We can use that. Let faith lead!

The Supreme Court, as I write on Tuesday, has just made a couple of quite conservative decisions, in accord with the exact opposition of the sun with Saturn, the most conservative planet of all. This might be for the good, ultimately. Saturn says "Slow down." It believes in the status quo. And so the Court did not overturn the President's right to determine immigration and travel quotas, nor interfere with the right of pro-life groups to guide women to non-abortion solutions. 

And the stock market is recovering. It generally doesn't like anything which rocks the boat.

The exact opposition of the sun with Saturn, today and yesterday (Monday), coincided on Monday with the largest decline in the stock market in months.

It is not an easy time. Keywords for Saturn "bad" are Delay, Worry, Hindrance, and the like. It can be Modesty, Reserve, Seclusion, "holing up" to finish things. 'It just has to be done."

But the square of Venus and Jupiter can be negligence and indolence. Not helpful. The void-of-course situation covering most of the day exacerbates the problem. 

Mapping out plans for the future is muted, yet some of those plans could be correct.

During happier moments there is a pageant of humanity's variety. 

Looking to the past, even the ruins of the past, can be fortifying. 

Using what wealth one has for mere play and pleasure is one possibility. It's a question of moderation.

Living for applause is natural, and good to a point, but depending on approbation too much could be depressing, for it comes and goes--and goes. Self-judgment and self-approval can be the corrective to fickle public response. 

Who is a superior figure, as if an "angel in the sun"? Putin and Trump think themselves such, and many others. You? We all have superiority in some area. Or we may prefer to acknowledge someone else's glory and bask in reflected light. 

Who in your life is innocent and harmless, a true friend? They are hard to come by. Treasuring them is promotive of happiness.
