Message for Friday 30 January 2026 • Apathy Crutches Restraint Subtlety • Apathy. "A man lying prone upon a bed" might be sick or just inept, indolent or perverted. Indulgence plus inadequate exercise are unhealthy. Crutches. If Minnesotans on both sides of the immigration imbroglio had to walk with crutches for a while, they might be prevented from harming one another. Restraint. The aforesaid Minnesotans sometimes act like "a lion raging against the bars of its cage." Love of freedom is good; so is reasonable adaptation to one's environment. Subtlety. National and world events seem mysterious, unfathomable, too often tragic. They have secret motives, plots and outcomes. So we all feel like "performers in a mystery play." The individual and the world, act by act, interpret themselves to each other--for the better, let us pray.
