He may attain a high position and then suffer disgrace. 2 "A pair of scales in one hand and a sword in the other" indicates justice, but some dispensers of it may be too severe. Judgment needs to be tempered with understanding and kindness. 3 "A heron" has fine and keen perceptions, never apathetic, but could through sensitivity be carried to extremes. 4 "A parrot listening and then talking" might be accused of idle mimicry, but after all he is a parrot. He, and we, project the image in which we create ourselves. The keyword is Conventionality. That is, after all, safer than the extremism of the previous paragraphs. Curses are averted by God for those who keep themselves in a state of grace through faith in Christ Jesus. 2 " A young maiden mourning and weeping" represents any of us who feel bereft of friends or family. But melancholy can be a God-seeking emotion. 3 The parrot is still listening and talking; see Saturday's paragraph 4. 4 "A rustic cottage overarched by a spreading cedar tree" indicates benevolence and homey simplicity. One is solicitous of peace and comfort, ready to shelter and befriend wayside travelers as well as housemates.
